Interisting opinion.. I do have a tempreture controll iron that I use for other things involving more extensive work. I use a gun almost all the time for my repairs with never a problem .. I guess I must be just extrmly lucky. But like I said im not a technition who does repairs daily.

I have that exact same iron and can tell you its just OK. I have worked on lots of electronics in my time and repaired many circut boards. I think if you are going to do this yourself you should get somthing like this. You need the Gun and not the iron because it heats up much faster and melts the solder twice as fast as an iron , due to having about twice the wattage. that is especially key for many reasons. Tho I must tell you, I am not a technition and do not repair circuts on a daily baises, I only have a degree in electrical engineering.

I was always told that interference engines are not really good, especially if there is ever any little problem with them.

Also whats this im hear about putting in a 5spd, does anyone know how involved it is , or would somone wanna to it for me if i pay them? lol would be cool if i could put in a dual range manual trany into my GL-10 turbo.

your in pa? well i wouldnt mind a drive. how much you want for it? got any other parts for an 86? and does anyone know a source for repair pannels . If i am gunna kep my car and put a trany in it i might as well repair the reuted wheel arches.

I have a 1986 Subaru 4WD GL-10 Turbo, with Automatic transmission. The governor gear blew while driving on the highway and i had it replaced and about 2 months later also driving on the highway the gear blew again, I had it replaced and almost never drive it , i was told i should get a new transmission or have this one rebuilt. I am in New York, about an hour north of NYC and i called all over the place . I cannot find a junk yard that has one and was wondering if i can put in one from a newer year? about a year ago i posted about the gear when it went and most told me to put in a 5speed , and its easier said thain done, i only have a driveway to work on my car so a project like that its too big. Are there any alernatives? My car is driving again now. I just dont go on to the highway anymore with it and took it off the road this summer. I feel bad since i spent over 16 hundred putting in a rebuilt long block in 2004 as well as an exhaust and alot of front end parts, But that was back when i had money to spend and i was not in school like i am now Its starting to rust and i see paint bubbling on both rear wheel arches. Hmm sounds good. I wanna do that to my 87 GL-10. where do i get a 2 row radiator ( if its not alredy stock ) and how did you set up your elecric fan? mine is belt driven. and i had an 88gl 2wd that was the same. Also where do you take the temp reading?

i got an 87 GL-10 turbo 4wd. last year the car wouldnt shift outa 1st unless i manualy put it into 2nd. the repair shops said i needed to have the tranny rebuilt, since i didnt have alota money i let it sit till i could try to fix it myself when i had summer break. Since then i did a lil research and figured it was the governer. About 3 weeks ago the 87 taurus i drive , which is a beater, had to be towed to a nearby new service center. Douring the tow the towstraps broke free i was told, and the front grill and headligt was destroyed and the header pannel was broken. they fixed the problem it was towed for, which was a new coil needed. the car was driavable and in lew of them buying me a new grill headlight and headder, i told them that i had another car they could fix insted (they are transmition specialests ) i told them i just fould out it was the governer gear , i seen the applecoring. They took a look at it , told me i was right. i had to wait 2 weeks till he could locate a new one and then he put it in and fixed it . i only drove it arrround town when i got it back and about a week later i went 45 min upstate and the check enginlight came on at 10 min efore i got there, when i came back home came thing happened. 10 before i got home it came on. Another thing i noticed after that trip when i checked all the fluids was, the oil was about a quart over filled for some reason. i called and let the guy know it was on and waht happened. he told me drain a quart out and if it comes on again just bring it in. whell the next day it was ok, my mom used the car all day to run errans arround town so i thought it was ok . then a couple days later i had to take a trip again upstate a lil (this laborday weekend) i had to drive to my brothers and about 20 mins into the trip the car kicked outa gear and was back in 1st only again. i was i the same boat , so i turned the car arround, got off the highway and started home on the side roads , and the light came back on. idono if i could take it back to the guy because it was not written up and i hade no paperwork wit it when he replaced the gear. so i am wondering if i i have to end up paying for it , can somone tell me where i can just buy the gear myself , i can take it out but i have no idea where to find one. i tried for a few weeks before i had this guy do it. Also if i have to end up having him do it? can somone tell me what a good price for it would be? labor rate arround here is 83 an hour. I have no idea what a part like that would be. And any suggestions to why it blew again after 3 weeks?

I am in need of a sunroof for my 86 gl-10 sedan, mine was smashed by vandals. No junk yards arround here have except for one that has a few sunroofs from gl-10 wagons. the yard said that i would have to find out if it will fit, because his book has diffrent part numbers for the sedan and wagon. I am in new york and this yard is the 1st i have found tht even has somthin this old, its 3 hours away. i found a place on line , but they are in Or and wont ship a sunroof. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

lol ... Well do you think you can help me find a new or good used Govner?

i am having the same problem with my GL-10 turbo with auto trans. Can anyone please tell me where i can fine a new govner shaft.
