  1. Many of the 80's Ford Escorts had the "shift up" light as you described, worked the same way as your car. This was purely a fuel-saving device to prompt drivers into shifting when maximum fuel efficiency can be achieved. Any attempt at using any more than minimum power to move the car (like going up hills or entering a freeway) would illuminate the light. Our solution: ignore it. Hope this helps.
  2. Yeah.. I also noticed the composition of the mudpit looked like concrete, and hope that by helping the young lady with the yellow Baja get as much of that gunk out of her wheels before it dried, that her ride back home Saturday night was uneventful.
  3. I would also like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all that made this year's Show possible (I tried to get to you all personally)..without your hard work, research, sponsorship and legwork this show would not have been even close to possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you! As usual, another beautiful setting, next to a cool little small town. This was the farthest WCSS yet from my Ranch, worth evey mile to attend. We had the potential for bringing -9- old-gen cars from AZ, NV and California, and we ended up with only one car from there attended the Show..and that one was a 2010 Impreza. A sad number for our old gen group this year. Had a great time visiting with old friends from past WCSSes, and met some really cool new freinds also. I was playing cards with a young lady in the Canadian section, a game that I used to play with my Grandpa years ago, that I thought was long extinct..it was just weird that a young person enjoyed that "old man's" game. Thanks..I enjoyed playin' (and drinking beer) with ya. Had dinner/saw Leavenworth..what a neat place-clean! On the way back to NV, we sidetripped through Hood River, had lunch at this killer Taqueria that we found while attending the first Hood River WCSS. That also gave opportunity to pick up some of my favorite beer seemingly only available at Rosaures Market there. (Thanks to the Dude that reminded me about Rosauers, I'm terrible at remembering names) The kid I was riding with suggested we hit this killer Hot Springs he knew somewhere in the middle of Oregon, and we took some incredibly beautiful USFS roads getting there. Got home Monday night about six o'clock. Some stats: In a "Heavily modified '83 wagon made to look like a 2010 Impreza" ( ) Departure mileage from The Ponderosa Ranch, 1987 Arrival mileage back home, 3716..total trip mileage 1729 Best gas mileage tank: 32mpg = Bordertown Chevron/CFN(near Reno) to Redmond CFN. All other tanks were around 28 mpg. No breakdowns or damage occured during this trip. There was a minor "malfunction", easily and quickly corrected. (Thanks Suberdave) No pizza was consumed during this trip , I'm still shaking:burnout:. Gallons of Arizona Ice Tea (white can) consumed, around 10 (est.) Jeremy, I have the glass you ordered. Again, thanks to all for making and attending another great WCSS. See y'all next year! (Just my 2 bucks)
  4. OK. Nevada guys are rolling. If all goes to plan, we'll see/join the PDX group at Dad's in Toppenish. It'll be tough leaving this beautiful 45 degree temp here, but hey, this is WCSS! (Mike, call me.)
  5. I can't believe this thread has gone this far. The OP asked a simple question, and was answered "...spring side down" in like the first couple of posts. Enough already!
  6. How big is this convoy expected to get? Flowmastered, you have a PM.
  7. Yeah, I've tried that way too. I prefer 139 (Eagle Lake) to 395 Alturas for a couple of reasons, both having to do with the 395 route being more "desert", kinda boring and a little uncomfortably warm while driving my '83 with no A/C. I prefer the more wooded route that 139 provides, cooler and more like Tahoe than Tonopah along the way . Absolute fastest/shortest route is not always the best (at least for me). Just my 2 bucks
  8. Actually Mike, I was looking at possible routes briefly last night. I was kinda using the route you proposed in (I think it was) your first post, and I am considering meeting up with you guys around Biggs, or maybe Goldendale whenever you roll through on Friday. I don't know how this will correspond to your schedule, but I'm pretty flexible. Once we get closer to actually travelling, we can exchange phone numbers for some "fine tuning" on Thursday night and Friday morning. I'm really trying to avoid Eugene and Portland, which I view as the two most vile places on Earth (each for completely separate reasons), please don't anyone take that personally:). That is one scenario being considered. Roughly, from here: 395 to Susanville, Cal., CA-139/OR-39 to K-Falls, US 97 to Bend, Biggs, etc. continue to WCSS There are a few variations on that general path to WCSS, which from 89451 does not involve I-5 (I avoid using Mapquest just for that reason).
  9. Considering joining you guys Friday morning along the route. I'm working on it... (Processing, please wait )
  10. I kind of like arriving during the day on Friday. It gives me a chance to unwind after driving from Nevada in a non-A/C car. It also gives a chance to hang with fellow attendees in a slightly slower (and) quieter setting, and also to kinda "check the joint out" before things really get humming. Just my 2 bucks on that. :-\ -- That's great news about having food on site..always a plus.
  11. Hey Jibs, IIRC last year your mom said she was bringing her BRAT to WCSS this year. I guess that's out?
  12. 1. Beacon Rock: 2. Portland: ugh. See y'all there. I've got to leave Thursday, to build in some extra "emergency breakdown time" for my wagon, to arrive at WCSS Friday (along a different route). Avoiding Portland is just extra bonus. Accepting riders, if so inclined.
  13. Lookin' good Dave! I'm looking forward to seeing the site grow. Say hi to Lisa, and we'll see ya at WCSS!
  14. OK Brian, for that I'm cutting you a break ..congrats on finally finding a job. I'm sure you were going crazy (and broke) before that. Hope to see ya at an upcoming Wrenchfest soon.
  15. Yer killin' me Brian... Jeremy, I was thinking of getting to Klamath Falls the way we've usually gone, then 97 the rest of the way to WCSS. Whaddya think?
  16. Did the odors start around the same time you started using your Air Conditioner?
  17. Ed, it was a looong time ago I did that, and IIRC once I got the proper forms and instructions together, I got a title rather easily. Let me process this for awhile and I'll let you know.
