  1. FWIW, here's my follow up, if a bit late:rolleyes: : Bridgestone Potenza RE92A 225/55/17 M+S Just my 2 bucks
  2. Forget the chains. If you have decent all seasons on your car, you'll do just fine. I've lived in Tahoe for many years, never needed them on my Subaru, or any of my Company's Subarus. Ever. Matter of fact, on more than one occaision I've used a Subaru to pull out (of snow) Explorers, XTerras, Yukons, much Eurotrash, and of course many 2-wheel drives:rolleyes: .
  3. I looked at two '08 Outbacks today, and like a knucklehead didn't write down the tire details:banghead: . I do remember that they were Bridgestone Potenza, can't remember the series number or even the size. About the size, we get the upgrade aluminum rims (non turbo model), so if anyone knows the diameter of those that's half the battle. I'll research some more, and report back here.
  4. In my business I drive multple vehicles in all kinds of conditions around Tahoe and Reno, including all the Subaru products. I've found that the bone stock Outback with the "factory issue" tires is by far the best vehicle in the snow, bar none. Whatever tires those are (I'll try and remember to look today) work great (and I'm sure you know about Tahoe snow and ice:rolleyes:). Just my 2 bucks
  5. My '83 had the same symptom (many years ago). Turned out to be the thermo sensor as mentioned above. Replaced it..voila, problem solved. Please post your progress on solving this one:) . Just my 2 bucks
  6. Way to go Jeremy:clap: . Glad everything turned out OK, and you're back on the road:headbang: .
  7. Took the words right out of my mouth . Got a used caliper from the Pick-N-Pull, back on the road again:clap: .
  8. I got some for my wagon earlier this year from www.Rockauto.com. I shopped all around, and they had the best price (and quick service).
  9. Yeah, I've already picked up maps and books that key in on campgrounds (prices, facilities, etc) and hotels for both states.
  10. Arrive home Wenesday..gotcha. Now I know which days to block off for vacation from work. I'm with ya on the "scenic route" after the show:) .
  11. Aww, c'mon... We've got members coming from south of Tucson, Arizona. That's at least TWICE as far as us from NorCal and Reno-Tahoe. The social event of the season!
  12. Y' know, the more posts I'm reading here, the more bringing my bike to the show sounds like a good idea.
  13. So far, I can meet ya:) . FYI, high temperatures are forecast this weekend...(ugh)
  14. I've got a set of Michelin MXV Plus on my Acura, actually my 2nd set of those on that car. Excellent wear, quiet running, have no idea what they're like in the snow (Acura=summer use, Subaru for winter use), good grip in the rain. Can't say enough good things about these tires, I love 'em. My 2 bucks
  15. 5 out and 5 back. Let's start a betting pool to guess at which mile my heart explodes:lol:  . With that said, it sounds like a great idea Brian. I gotta start practicing:) .
  16. There's a shop in Sparks that's real good, Subaru guys own and operate it: Independent Automotive 865 Bergin Way Sparks, NV 89431 775-358-8184 Or, in Tahoe: Norm's Auto Repair (Subaru Specialists) 2186 Ruth Ave South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150 530-544 0953 Both shops EXCELLENT
  17. Just noticed you're in Tahoe City:cool: . Most dealers in this area will make sure all systems are properly functioning, idiot lights are off, and are safe for the road. IIRC, on the California side the dealer/seller is also responsible for having it pass the local smog test before sale. Sometimes, they don't do these things until told to do so, like when they've actually sold the vehicle (Hohl in CC has a lot of "bring-backs"). Have them check out what's wrong, fix it, and tell you what that was the problem. Norm's Auto Repair (Subaru spcialists) in South Shore is the best around. My 2 bucks
  18. Jeremy, I've got a proposition for ya. I'll PM you soon.
  19. You know I'm in, with extra days for what we talked about:) .
  20. THAT little fart? Last night's 4.9 (or 5.0, or 4.7, or whatever ...) was the first one felt by us folks in Tahoe and Carson. Not even CLOSE to some of the stuff that rocked us regularly in San Francisco (younger days:cool: ), although I guess a 5-pointer is noticeable enough... Hang in there Reno peeps, I know it's unnerving..I was never much for surprises myself...
