  1. Way back in the '70s, I helped my bud pour a whole can of Gumout or Seafoam directly into the fuel line that led to the carburetor of his Mustang. His neighbors' reaction to the smoke was classic! I figure it's the best way to get the highest concentration of Seafoam through the carburetor, I'd like to try that on my '83 wagon, EA81/Hitachi carb. My question is this: if I plug the fuel line that comes out of the underhood fuel filter("vapor separator") , is there going to be enough pressure from the fuel pump to cause leakage or uh..an accident? If clarification is needed, please ask.
  2. Actually, if you're in Sparks Jeremy, it might be easier if you rode with me to WCSS..you're right on the way:) . Is Dalton going this year? (this has become kind of a hijack, eh?) Newsoobdude-if we can all agree to some kind of a get together around Reno/Tahoe/Kyburz etc, that'd be great.
  3. Any excuse for a get together is good...
  4. Yeah, that's probably a good estimate for Petaluma. I dunno man, remember how tough it was to never get that free wagon smogged, after all that work you did to get it going. It may take a few extra bucks once you get this one going just to get it to pass smog testing (Cat, maybe a new carb, etc). It's getting mighty tough for anything carbed to pass in CA any more, even Hondas. Considering the condition and lack of a SMOG cert, the asking price is a mite high. Just my 2 bucks, of course.
  5. Wha..200K service? IIRC, my 200K service consisted of renewing my license plates that day. That was in 1997  .
  6. '83 EA81, 319,000 miles: I've been using 10W-40 in this car for the last 220K or so, and have had absolutely no engine problems (oil related) the whole time. This past winter, right at startup I heard a very brief (perhaps 0.5~1 second) of what sounds like oil starvation and a couple of light knocks. This happened when the temp in the garage is below about 25F, and only after sitting all night. Lately the temp's been warmer than that, around 30F at startup time in the morning, the sounds don't happen anymore. I guess this is kind of a roundabout way of asking what your opinions are about mixing some 10W-30 or even 5W-30 with my usual 10W-40, maybe just in the wintertime. I'd rather not go to the thinner oil 100%, as I run some high RPM on a long uphill grade often. I'm also considering there must be at least some slop due to 300,000 miles of use, so I figure the 10W40 is good for a general purpose oil. Thoughts?
  7. J B..Please make some room in your PM box!
  8. Birthday Greetings bud..see ya at WCSS this year?
  9. Might be a fuse. Also (this happened on my wagon): See if there's a panel that you can pull off the inside of the trunklid that the wires lead into. On my wagon, one of the wires simply came unplugged (no rust or damage), a simple fix. Just my 2 bucks (Uh-oh, I just thought of something..your rear plate might be mounted in the bumper on that model. In any case, check the wires/plugs leading to the lights in question)
  10. Just caught this one.. Happy B-Day Richierich! See ya at WCSS
  11. Yeah, I know:) . I was shooting for a good example of where the Flume Trail goes, and that's the map I'm most familiar with. I'll see if there are any others, maybe (if I can remember:rolleyes: ) I'll grab a brochure at that rental shop at Spooner next time by there.
  12. Heh, it's still covered in deep snow but it's expected to be warm this weekend, so I'm sure that'll help melt some away. I think the bike season begins in May, but we've had so much snow this year that it might not be gone by then. Is this the map you meant to post? http://theflumetrail.com/ridingmap/
  13. Uh oh, I've probably ridden less than a mile (all on paved streets:rolleyes: ) since September...I've got to get back in shape. Yup, there's still plenty-o-snow left in Tahoe, all the USFS roads and paths are closed, and will be for some time. Heck, it's still piled 5' high along the residential streets! Summers are nice in Tahoe, especially when it's a hundred degrees down in Reno or Sacto. Sounds like a cool plan though.
  14. Whenever my favorite Subaru shop has an oil change special, of course I'd have them do it. While on the lift, they'll rotate the tires, check the brakes, check the coolant effectiveness, and sometimes other little things if I ask them to (like axle nut torque). This shop uses Genuine Subaru filters, and GTX in the weight I choose. To me, they're a second set (and expert to boot) of eyes, and at a bargain price. My 2 bucks
  15. Just so happens I've been keeping a written list. '83 wagon, 319,000 miles: -Steering rack creaking badly, but relatively tight. -Idles rough, runs great otherwise. -Need to double check axle nut following recent axle replacement. -Clutch needed soon (this year or next) -New snow tires needed before next winter. -Ignition timing may have slipped, need to check. -Small tear in driver seat. -Some assorted minor rust and dents. -One Wagon Wheel bent. -Lowest fan setting inop. -Right turn blinker won't self-cancel. -Trans drips a little gear oil. -Can't adjust heater temp with dash control. -Strange "scuffing" sound immediately after installing ElCheapo pads. -Could use new calipers, front and rear. -Probably due for another 100,000-mile valve adjustment:rolleyes: . -Paint peeling on hood due to dealer's half fast scratch repair when new (in '83).
  16. Rats... Just traded with another guy, I'll be working in Carson City all day tomorrow:( .
  17. Might not have been me, I DO have the brush guard (and ski rack). There is another blue wagon like mine with similar ski rack, IIRC he's got steel wheels (mine are the white spokers). But... About 3PM today, a REAL CLEAN blue BRAT with a long style bullbar blew by me, northbound 395 at Moana Lane (in Reno), and disappeared into the traffic jam ahead. I was in a silver POS Malibu, totally unnoticeable, exiting Moana. Will the owner of this BRAT please chime in!
  18. Happy BD Paul...I'm havin' a cold one with the Ramones blasting on the stereo to toast the occaision as I type.
  19. How about JB Weld? Worked on my POS GE washer. Just my 2 bucks
