I was just going to post asking about Wednesday...sooo, it looks like we're still on? When/where to meet? I'm making a list of some needed doodads to look for as I type:rolleyes:. The snow is melting pretty quickly, so it may be kinda wet out at the yard..hopefully not too much mud. So far sunshine is forecast (today is Monday:rolleyes:).

Next Wednesday (27th) sounds good for me..the snow and rain today would have been extra fun, eh?

Had similar symptoms on my EA81. For a looong time I couldn't figure it out. I asked around at the local Subaru shop and was told it was the water pump. It wasn't leaking or malfunctioning, so at my convenience I put on a new one..voila, noise gone:banana: . My 2 bucks

Thanks Brian, those were good times..I sure do love wheeling in the trees around Dog Valley. Greenley, I know what you mean about the rocks around Jumbo (and Pine Nut for that matter), I'm always concerned about one of the jagged ones shredding a tire. The other guys kind of imply that I may be kind of a sissy (and understanably so:lol: ), but during the summer I kind of prefer to wheel in the shady and cooler areas like around Tahoe or Dog Valley. I'll keep an eye out for your rig. I'm pretty much regular around Tahoe (South Shore & Incline) and Carson City, and usually park on the Slide side lot at Mt. Rose Ski resort when I'm there.

A few of us (Subieman, Jibs, TheSubaruJunkie and I) were knocking around Jumbo just last year (maybe it was '06:rolleyes:). I knew there was a path to Virginia City (I have USFS maps), but when we got just a short way above that motorcycle play area, we hit Sierra Cement..couldn't go up any higher..so, we tooled around the general area, had a good time..I believe there are pix and vids. Next time there, I'd like to hit that little pizza joint in downtown New Washoe City. I hear it's really delicious and have been dying to try it . The sand pits in G'ville, are those the ones east of hwy88, sort of south of Kimmerling Rd.?

Yup, welcome. There are a few of us old gen guys around here, a little spread out (after all this is northern Nevada:rolleyes: ). Stay tuned here, we usually organize our meets on this board..sometimes trail runs, sometimes "Wrenchfests".

I live (and work) in high altitude snowy country, and drive just about everything currently available daily(no Lamborghinis or Ferraris though:( ). In the snow, NOTHING handles or sticks to the road better than an Outback, period. Heck, we've had to travel to dig out Xterras and Explorers many times, and we always use an Outback. Since all our Outbacks are non turbo, and a lot of the Volvos are, the power king is definitely Volvo..more room inside, too (IMHO). However, the volvos are typical of all the European cars in that their switches and controls are numerous and over complicated..and of course the repairs are numerous and expensive. Just my 2 bucks

A good way to tell a local in Tahoe is look for a dog in the car (I think dogs inside a car is disgusting, but that's another discussion:rolleyes: )..most tourists leave their dogs home. There are many other telltales, too. You may have spotted me, I'm in the blue EA81 wagon..brush guard, ski rack, multicolored hood (NO DOG)..and I spend a fair amount of time down in South Shore. My rig takes 13" tires, and to narrow my choices, I only use snow (winter) tires. To add to the fun of finding the right tire for me, I also specify that the sidewalls be at least 2-ply, which is "Load index 86" or above. Oh yeah, I need them to be 185/70. I usually have to hunt around for them, but the last few times, I've had success at the independent tire dealers. The last set I got were from "Allied Tire" in Carson City, Nevada, USA. Charlie (owner) gave me a good price on them, too . Good luck.

Yep, the same thing happened with my '83. Turned out to be the "coolant temperature sensor", which is not to be confused with the sensor that's plugged into the radiator. Can't remember where it's located on the engine (it was probably 150,000 miles ago), but IIRC it was an easy fix. I concur with Ken.

Another viewpoint. If you desire a large metro area, Seattle, Portland, or even Denver has a high concentration of older Subes. There's a high concentration of Subes here in Tahoe also, but not like I've seen in Seattle or Denver (although the most-registered brand in the Tahoe basin is Subaru), simply because those are big cities. Heck, the closest "big city" to here is Reno:lol: (not a big city:rolleyes: ) Didn't think it possible, but Seattle has us beat:-\ . -- (Rick, sorry I missed ya)

Yup, axle. Same thing happened to me a few years back. Replaced the axle, voila...nice-'n-smooth:headbang: Just my 2 bucks

Agreed, worn clutch. The more you make it slip like that, the faster it will wear to the point that the car will be un-driveable, and cause damage to other components. When replacing the clutch, be sure and replace the clutch bearing (sometimes called the throw out bearing) at the same time. My 2 bucks
