  1. Last time I was in Tucson, my parents (and their neighbor) took me to "Gus Balon's" for breakfast. Totally a greasy spoon type of joint, but great food at a reaonable price. Great pie, too. On 22nd (a major boulevard in Tucson), IIRC.
  2. Welll... Next weekend is out for me, I'm goin' over to California for an overload of golf, BBQ, and football.
  3. Try Pick-n-Pull in Newark (next to Fremont). That stuff should be available there. In case you're not near Fremont, I believe there are also locations in Oakland, Santa Rosa, and San Jose. http://www.picknpull.com/index.htm Just my 2 bucks (Formerly from Pleasanton)
  4. Stay tuned here, we're workin' on it. Probably be finalized Sunday morning:) . Dalton: Snowy trails are appropriate for this time of year, Dog Valley area is always nice...
  5. I've found that it's plain just not worth the effort to crawl and reach under there..it's not that big a deal. Just my 2 bucks
  6. Mine's been doing that for years. Not been a problem, but sometimes to unstick the needle, I'll whack the top of the dash with the palm of my hand (not too hard) after warmed up. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Just my 2 bucks
  7. Don't know how I missed this. '83 GL Wagon 4WD: 308,400 And still counting:clap: .
  8. Any special reason for having to unplug from under there?
  9. You might want to take pictures of the setup and all the parts needed before un-installing them from the donor car, especially if you're sending those parts to someone else. It'll make it a lot easier to install on the next car. Also might be beneficial to someone that has found a donor, and wants to locate and remove the right bits (does that make sense? ). By far the most time consuming part of removing the bits from the donor car is getting the wiring..try to get it all, from the switch inside, to the relay, and to the actual light. Just my 2 bucks.
  10. I've got the rings that hold the center caps on, PM me if interested. Re:http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=62648
  11. Y'know, I actually get better highway mileage with the lower geared transmission. Not having to shift to 3rd for every little hill and overpass is much easier on the rest of the car (and less an annoyance to me). The higher RPM is not hurting the car at all, the EA81 being such a well-balanced and smooth engine..I can and do run all day at 3500-4000 , and it's as sweet as my Acura V6 (although not nearly as powerful:rolleyes: ). I've considered the 5 speed, but there's not much to be gained (for me)..The earlier 4-speed was a much simpler direct sawp. Just my 2 bucks
  12. Dalton, the gears in the EA81's from '83 and later are higher than the earlier years. Just one of the changes from the factory that took place in '83. I replaced my transmission with one from an earlier model, now my gearing is more appropriate for the hilly terrain we live in (I've been able to make it up Spooner Grade in 4th gear since the change:banana: ). Nothing you can do about your gearing without changing the whole transmission. You might compare notes with Jeremy, I believe his wagon is an '84 and has the original higher-geared xmission. And for crying out loud, be careful..that wagon's in good shape:-p !
  13. Dalton, if you're set on using an actual gasket, give me a few days, I'll check with the parts dept. at the dealership in Tahoe where I get my stuff from...she's pretty good at finding weird parts for my car:rolleyes: .
  14. I have a stock unlifted wagon, 13" wheels and all. There's only been a couple (or very few) times where I couldn't keep up with the lifted guys. A few scrapes (nothing major) along the way, but just as fun. We ARE due for some kind of run, snow is good. Dog Valley anyone?
  15. ('83 Wagon) OK, here's my situation, maybe this'll help explain where my question is coming from: My passenger side outer boot has a hole in it. Not a tear (I've seen plenty of those), but a puncture..sort of like something small flew up from the road and stabbed my joint boot. Of course, I "caught wind" of the damage shortly after, who can mistake that smell:-p ? Here's the question: If the grease inside is flinging around and outward to the inside of the boot, is there any grease that's actually staying on the actual working part of the joint? It seems the grease that's escaping through the hole is being done so with a lot of force and speed (which is expected), leaving the actual joint dry. Do you follow me? I'd be happy to explain more if anyone has questions. Thanks.
  16. You might want to see if the "substitute bolt" method works before removing the carb..it might save a ton of work for ya.
  17. Dalton, you might be able to get around that by replacing the stud/nut contraption with a simple bolt of the same size and thread. Remember, if you take the carb off completely, you'll likely have to replace the gasket. I know you're far from town, and the parts stores probably won't have that gasket in stock ("We'll get it in next week"...). BTW, nice job finding where the leak is located!
  18. This almost sounds like it could be electrical. It's possible one of your spark plug wires (or even your coil wire) is loose or has worked it's way off. Couldn't hurt to try both ends of all those 5 wires to see if they're good and tight. Standing in front of the car facing the engine, the idle screw is sort of on the passenger side of the front of the carb, the idle speed screw has a spring wrapped around it. Mine's kind of hidden behind a small vacuum hose, but once you see where it is, it won't be so hard to locate next time. Easily adjustable with the aircleaner in place, I use a long, narrow flathead screwdriver. Hey Mendo, is it a California-spec Feedback carb? I agree with the vacuum leak diagnoses too, just have a fire extinguisher ready while checking for leaks with the carb spray. I've had it ignite from contacting hot components (manifold, carb, etc,)..exciting to say the least, but that fire extinguisher saved me from being stranded with a burned out car 100 miles away from home:eek: . Just my 2 bucks
  19. Rats..I'll be at sis's place in Yuba City=(yecch) celebrating my parents' 66th wedding anniversary:clap:. Too bad, I need some brief wrenchin' help, and we're way overdue for meet/wheelin' trip:( . The day before (Saturday the 16th), I'm wide open.
  20. With the new addition to the local "family", we need to take some group pictures..perhaps a mini meet/wrenchfest/photo session soon (just discovered a torn CV boot:mad: )? Nice rig, Dalton:clap: .
  21. Just in time for the snowy season:banana: . Sure thing, PK and Mendo, we'll keep an eye on it for ya;).
  22. When I lived in the Bay Area (Saratoga), my roomate used to take her Civic to "Japanese Beetle" in Sunnyvale. AFIK, she still goes there.
