SOA givin' props to the Bi-Drive
NV Zeno replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Ha..I like the part in the description of the air deflector where the guy could light a cigarette at 60MPH. Back in '77 the maximum speed limit in USA was 55 . -
If the other guy is found to be "at fault" , your insurance company goes to work for you. You should not incur any out of pocket expense after it's all over, and a rental car should also be provided at no cost to you (coutesy of the other driver's insurance co.) while your car is in the shop, even if for only one day. Do NOT do what the other guy's insurance company says. As a matter of fact, don't talk to them at all. Tell your insurance company what you want, and they'll hash that out for you. It's part of the service you pay for. This will not affect your rates in the future. Just my 2 bucks (I've been there)

Yeah, we had a little in Tahoe a few days ago, my favorite golf course was closed for a day or two:( . OTOH, the day I can first use my new season pass at the ski resort draws closer:headbang: .

SEMA Las Vegas All Subaru Events
NV Zeno replied to YUJI's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yeah, me too..the flight is quick and cheap enough, even have use of a company car while there. Hotel? Might as well be New Year's Eve..prices are outrageous, where there's a vacancy:eek: . -
Models to consider, in the Tribeca-class/size/price range: Toyota Highlander: Gotta have the V6; new for '07 third-row seating; great quality, decent mileage, one of the best in snow (after the Subaru, of course:D ). For "space for stuff" when all seats are used, nothing beats a minivan. Can't remember which models are available with AWD, but I've driven them all and the best of the bunch is the Mazda MPV. I think '06 is the last year of production though, but a one or two year old used one is still better than any Hyundai or GM product. Might want to consider the Mazda 5. A bit smaller than the MPV(about the size of a Tribeca and much lighter), only 6 passengers, but room behind the third row for "stuff"..more than all the 3-row SUV-types(like Explorer or Highlander), until you get up to the big dogs, like the Ford Expedition or Excursion. Great gas mileage, sliding doors, decent quality. New for '07 with 3 rows are Toyota RAV-4, and Hyundai Santa Fe (watch out for this one, a real POS). Toyota Sienna and Nissan Quest are great vans, bigger than the MPV (and probably more expensive), but very nice (not sure of AWD availability). Kia Sedona: '05 is similar to the MPV, similar gadgets and size, but the usual Korean quality. Kia Sedona: '07 is bigger, almost as big as the Toyota Sienna. Quite nice when new, but ages rather quickly, as most Korean cars do. IIRC, the Ford Freestar is available with AWD..quality between the Japanese models and the Koreans. Dodge Caravan: Haven't seen too many of these, but I think they're available in AWD also..the usual Chrysler quality. Just remembered..Ford Freestyle: 3 rows, AWD, minivan luggage volume..decent leg and headroom in all rows. Actually a really decent car..all the room of a minivan, but doesn't look like a van from the outside. Used model year '06's are hitting the market, new '07s are on the lots. If room for 3 rows of passengers AND all their stuff is necessary, forget about SUV-types and think minivan (or Freestyle). The SUVs have probably the least luggage space (3rd row in use), about that of a Corvette:rolleyes: . My 2 bucks

My RX that didnt make the show **Update**
NV Zeno replied to Turbone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Y'know, I'm actually kind of pleased that you ended up bringing the hatch (Please be aware that I'm not glad about your RX having had problems, that sucks all around) instead, the mudpit wouldn't have been the same without you..much less entertaining to watch the dozer pull out the Toyota than a Subaru:clap: . -

D#@MNIT locked the keys in my ea81
NV Zeno replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I agree with this method, worked for me on my then-new '77 Celica. Minimal or no damage. Call campus security/police/fire first though.. they'll have you unlocked in a jiffy:) . Just my 2 bucks -
Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. I drive lots of different makes/models (all new, all automatic) every day, and the Subaru automatics are really sluggish in a forced downshift (by that, I mean when there is an immediate demand for power) situation. I'm not saying the cars aren't good (you wouldn't believe the junk that's being sold out there:rolleyes: ), just that the difference between the 5 speed and the auto is huge IMO. That applies to the Leg/OB chassis..Forester/Impreza/9-2 are completely different . Just my 2 bucks

Home from WCSS, on our own power too!
NV Zeno replied to subynut's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
That's great ,welcome back! Yeah, the Grand Canyon is pretty spectacular, ain't it? Those side trips really make a long, miserable ride all worth it:burnout: . See ya next time guys! -
Yeah, I like the suggestion to bring it back to the same shop and have the oil changed again. When they tell you that the last shop that changed your oil damaged your plug, that window sticker is proof that it was them. Heck, you might come away with a "corrected" situation and maybe a free oil change in the deal . Please let us know what you do and how it turns out. Just my 2 bucks

Hotties? Didn't you see the pix of all those Subarus (wasn't that enough) ? Plenty of Stout left over for ya...we were waitin' for ya man . Scored something at the show you might be interested in, I'll PM ya later. Yeah, one piece...plus about 5000 pounds of dried mud from that horse corral :-p .

Lookin' good Brian, keep 'em coming . -
Well, we made it. I'd like to thank all the organizers which include Ken, Eric, Corky, Richie, Ed(and their families) for another outstanding WCSS. Your hard work does not go unnoticed here, and is greatly appreciated.   Also thanks to Scoobyclimbs for the trail tour, very enjoyable (even if I now have a new exhaust leak from that ride )..woulda never seen so much more of the local beautiful scenery than just from the highway. Arrived home Monday night. Surprisingly (or not? ) our EA81s made it just fine, no breakdowns whatsoever. There were a couple of very short unscheduled stops, only to cure the wheel imbalance caused by the mud stuck to the wheels from the pit. A beautiful drive, both directions. We followed a mostly circular route, taking different routes to/from the show. Total miles driven (my rig): 1460, ending mileage 304,804. AFIK, the Arizona guys (Dave and Ted) left for home after the rallycross. Those guys deserve props for driving a 20 year old car 1400 miles across some of the hottest desert in the country to get to the show, took the trail run, did a few laps in the mud pit, and both drivers used that car in the rallycross...then are in the process right now taking it back home 1400 miles away. I'm terrible with names, but I do remember the people:). I'm not nearly as talented at "working the room" as Junkie, but I managed to meet some new friends and see some old ones. Kurt, it was good to see ya again, haven't seen you since #3 at Thurston:cool: . As was mentioned in another thread, the Canadians were cool..I hung with the guys with the engine-swapped BRAT, comparing notes about Americans/Canadians:lol: , muscle cars, beer and Moutain Dew (what a riot ). Styles, thanks for the "test ride", I think I'm going bike shopping today:) (oh..BTW, I'm more than TWICE your age, and managed to be awake later than you both nights, what's up with that?? ). Noah, you DA MAN for pullin' that truck out of the mud on video! Those locals were mostly good natured about being pulled out though, that could have got real ugly, even with the sherriff there. Corky, we need to have those beers together, I found some interesting stuff this time. Mike, PM me if you need some questions answered from a different perspective about your house..and thanks for the stuff, the '87 will live a little longer with help from my '83 (almost to 305K now ). I know I met and hung with so many more, just can't remember (or didn't get) names..but I'll remember you or your car next time:cool: . /Dave
