?how to clean the front bumper?
NV Zeno replied to rch10007's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I use that spray-can tire foam cleaner stuff (forget the name:lol: ) on both the bumpers and black side moldings..works great but doesn't last long, but it's so easy to use it's no big deal to reapply. Just my 2 bucks -
'78 DL wagon............yes!!!
NV Zeno replied to crazy D's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Cool beans, Dalton! We'll have to see this beast next time we have a mini-meet/wrenchfest:headbang: . Brian's right though, it's MUCH easier to just find something that's already 4WD...as you know, EA81's are the good stuff: relatively plentiful around here, and can be had for cheap. -
Yeah Dave, that 230 number you have is my cel..good coverage the whole way IIRC, and at the show too:clap: . I may go up with TSJ and Jibs, we still need to work out those details. I guess we can shoot for the same corner, although TSJ and I breifly touched on another location within the fairgrounds. We'll keep you in the loop on that one. Not sure if the gates are locked after a certain hour, we'll look into that too.

Yea Brian, I agree with Gunslinger..the outside edge could use a little touching up, you saw how mine looked when I missed a small spot on the edge of my wagon wheel:lol: .

Yeah, that black portion looks pretty bad. You've got some time, just let the red dry a few days and then sand the black smooth again. Gently tape over the red, and shoot another coat of black, that ought to do it. Don't know what the clear is for, but I'm not a paint expert;). Interesting combo, I'm looking forward to seeing them in person soon.

I guess I'm one of those that don't fit the demographic. I'm about as white-collar as can be (now retired), and certainly not the politically left-leaning outdoorsy-environmentalist type, either. Actually, I use my Sube as more of a recreational vehicle, and makes a great Tahoe winter beater. Except for the one GL I own, my main cars have always been Acuras, Toyotas, Fords, etc. The GL has been a favorite, a real crowd pleaser. Great article, BTW :-)

Wow, I didn't notice that. KZZP..wow, that brings back some cobwebbed memories:burnout: . -
You're certainly welcome at WCSS...

Brian, sounds like you're experiencing an everyday occurence that happened to us "old timers" during the time when almost every car was rear drive..some of the V8 Mustangs and Firebeirds of the 60's were especially fun (so were no-guts Volkswagens, but in a different way:brow: ), Powerslide City at every corner, yahoo!!

I kinda like the white myself... (But you already knew I was gonna say that:lol:  )

Cant find rims to save my life. **FOUND EM!**
NV Zeno replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Off Road
Brian, keep your eyes open for used tire and wheel dealers, they may even be listed in your phonebook. IIRC, there were several of those kinds of dealers in the Bay Area, mainly Oakland and some in San Jose (none in Pleasanton;)). I vaguely remember seeing one over by the Carson City PnP awhile back (haven't been over there lately), can't recall exactly. -
Aren't you moving soon anyway?

'Bout dang time. Lookin' good so far... :D

broken springs on the seat
NV Zeno replied to my83subaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've found that an EA82 seat was not as comfortable as the stock cloth EA81 seat when I installed it in my EA81. I just hunted around a little more, and found a good EA81 seat from an '84. Works great, fit right in with no modification, voila. As for my previous post, thanks Ever Victorious for clarifying the interchangeability..Driver fits driver, Passenger is slightly different, needs some modding to work as a driver side seat:) . Details upon request:D . -
broken springs on the seat
NV Zeno replied to my83subaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It'll probably be way cheaper (and quicker) if you went to a wrecking yard and just got a whole new seat. I believe all EA81s were interchangeable. Driver/driver, passenger/passenger. I bet if you look hard enough, you might just end up with a nicer seat than was originally there. My 2 bucks -
#10k post - had to do it here Vintage style

Welp, water pump replacement complete:clap:  . Got some Permatex gasket sealant (specific to water pump/thermostat), and dove in..had to do it over a couple of days, the leaning over and reaching down really makes this old back ache:burnout: . So far no leaks. I took it to the spray carwash to get some gunk and grease that has built up off the engine, then to the Post Office to get some mail, and a spin around town to get some heat/pressure built up. No overheat or underheat problem. I'm guessing that since I lost then replaced some coolant during the job, that there'll be some air in the system. I checked the coolant level, it's AOK. Eventually I'll probably have to bleed that air out. Could that be done by just letting the car sit and wait for the air to rise to the top, then open the rad cap to let the air out? This is kind of fuzzy to me, it's been a long time since I've done this and I'm mixing up this car with the Fords and Hondas I've done in the past:drunk: .

'83 EA81 non-turbo: After much procrastination, I've decided to finally replace my water pump. Got a replacement unit and gasket from NAPA. The "...Subaru Alive" book sez to use silicone gasket sealer, but I don't have any laying around. What I DO have is the spray-type "Copper Coat Gasket Compound". Will the copper stuff be OK to use for this application? I have no problem getting the silicone, I'm just looking to save a trip to the parts store:rolleyes: . TIA
