  1. I was over at the Carson yard last week, only the one BRAT, a white gen 2. Some good stuff on it, taillights looked good. Not as many EA81's and 82's as we're used to, but I saw some some early Legacys (and a couple of recent model Volvo wagons, very unusual for that yard). I'm tied up tomorrow, probably til about 4..you've got my number.
  2. That sucks man, but a year from now, you'll be wondering what took you so long to get out and move on to better things. Any plan for this Sunday (16th)?
  3. The e-brake part of the caliper is kind of all "gunky-rusty". Sometimes the e brake doesn't release properly, so I have to reach under and move the lever with my hand. That's not so hard in the dry, but the snow and the grime from the roads that's on the way will make that little task a bit unpleasant. I pretty much just need a little "supervision" changing the caliper, and of course help bleeding the brakes. Thought also about making a quick run to the PnP to get a good taillight to replace the one I cracked while using it as a battering ram at WCSS:lol: .
  4. Hey JB or Jeremy, are you off either day this weekend (Oct. 8-9)? Maybe a quick meet-n-greet, and a quick hand with a brake caliper. (Pizza! Pizza!) Brian, is your wagon ready to start pulling parts from?
  5. Most auto parts stores carry them, "Kragen Auto Parts" stores are popular in the Santa Clara area. Check your phone book for a location near you.
  6. Would that be Santa Clara in California, or Santa Clara in Oregon?
  7. Good to hear from you too, Mendo. Ya missed a good WCSS this year.
  8. Rats..can't make it tomorrow. FWIW, I was at the Carson yard a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't believe how many EA81's (and 71's, for that matter) WEREN'T there. Much smaller inventory than we're used to seeing there. Slim pickings. But, there's always hope..that yard gets most of the rigs that fail California emissions from around the Tahoe/ Mammoth area, and there's still plenty more still out there. If you're still around, I can be in Carson City around 4:30, Reno or South Shore by 5 or so.
  9. "worst case, just replace the whole oil filter with another from the J/Y, or dealer... on an ea71 it's just bolts and gaskets/seals" Freerange, you meant oil pump, right? Good idea. You can always stick the pump in a vise once removed from the engine, then work the filter off from a lot less awkward position.
  10. Great time for some 4-wheelin in Tahoe, or maybe a mini wrenchfest. I'm shooting for Wednesday, Oct. 5. Any interest?
  11. I've used a screwdriver for the really stubborn filters. Phillips type, long. Pierce the side of the filter, shove the screwdriver all the way through the other side so it sticks out an inch or so. Turn using the screwdriver..it destroys the filter, but who cares? Be prepared for a mess under the car, best to work in dirt or have plenty of covering for your floor. Just my 2 bucks
  12. I guess I've got four, all pertaining to my "Cream-puff:rolleyes:" '83 4X4 wagon: Haynes, FSM, ..Subaru Alive, and the worthless Chilton.
  13. Lots and lots of water while gently rubbing with a soft clean cloth. More water than rubbing.
  14. Try "Japanese Beetle" in Sunnyvale, or "Made In Japan" (I think he's on Winchester), in Campbell. Otherwise, Norm's in South Tahoe..he's far, but very good:) .
  15. This is a good high-quality product, I believe they come with a lifetime guarantee: http://magnecor.com/
  16. Mine was making kind of a faint ticking sound, speed related, just before WCSS. Replaced the u-joints (driveshaft), voila..noise gone. Just my 2 bucks
  17. I had a set of those (in that exact size, btw) on one of my cars several years ago, I was extremely satisfied. Price, wear, grip, quiet ride and price were all very good. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another set. Even the store I bought them at (Pleasanton, California) was a pleasure to buy from. Just my 2 bucks
  18. Just before WCSS. Smooth transaction, as usual:) .
  19. I doubt if the dealer has any left, but parts from these guys are good: http://www.s-wingsstuff.com/
  20. I've driven many rented OB's (usually pretty new at the time), and have found that is a common occurence with the windshields for that generation of OBs all the way through the '04 model year. The problem seems to have been solved for the '05 Legs and OBs. Just my 2 bucks
  21. LOL...My 6 cylinder Acura gets better mileage than the '83 wagon (29 vs.25), air conditioner going full blast:cool: .
