Stupid Auto Parts Stores.
NV Zeno replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, the coil comes with a sticker stating the CARB legal status, to be applied near where the coil is mounted..for the Smog Nazis that spot a non-OEM part during the visual inspection:rolleyes: . -

OK Brian, I just got back from Magnecor. Their pdf catalog takes a while to load (cable modem, Win 98SE, 533MHz), but the Subaru stuff is on page 18. There are 3 "grades" of wires. IIRC from that long ago, I may have phoned in the order. Why mess around with Kragen's junk? get the good stuff for only a couple of bucks more. -

Haven't been to the Magnecor site for a couple of years, I'll take a look and get back to ya. As for the coil, I just went into one of those "speed shops" (filled with stuff for Chevys and Fords) in Pleasanton a few years ago. IIRC, there's a place in Sacto called Tognotti's..I think they were a big speed shop. Maybe there's a Super Shops over there too? Most speed shops I've seen are independents, tho. Hope this helps. -

I got my wires directly from Magnecor. Ordered directly from their site, they have quite the extensive catalog. -

OK, this looks like the route/schedule coming from Washoe County so far: Thursday-meet at Subieman's at 5 or 6 (TBD later). 395 north, 36 to Susanville. 139 (turns into 39) north to K-Falls..97 north to 58, catch I-5 at Eugene..north to Vancouver, hopefully arrive before dark. Overnight there (meet up with TSJ and Jibs?). Maybe we can set up a meeting with some of the local members for some pizza. Friday morning continue north to show, meeting/adding to the caravan along the way. We can exchange phone #s in the PM Of course, comments and suggestions are encouraged:) . -

Jeremy Too bad Scott and Shawn aren't coming, they're good guys. I'll shoot for meeting you at your place, it'll probably take me an hour or so to get there from the Ranch. I can call you from the road with a better ETA, but the times you quoted sound good to me. I can probably get us a decent hotel suite in Vancouver, just need to know how big a "party" we are. JB, Brian..are you in on this? -

OK, now that many of the possible routes have been discussed, how about a timetable? Meet in Eugene? Salem? Vancouver? -
Stripped a front hub! Why?

Mike, were there noises coming from there before it failed? I've got a feeling mine is just about toast too. -

Corky, is that route (how can I put this) "the long way"? I pretty much stick to the speed limit+7~10 MPH, so I figure the mountain roads are just as fast as the freeway, especially in Oregon:rolleyes: . -

Corky, I remember last year travelling through Madras and the Indian res nearby..very hot and uncomfortable. The route I was thinking of for this year was US20 west from Bend, then OR22 north and west to Salem. Looks like a more high-elevation forested (read:cooler) route. Any wisdom concerning that way? (BTW Thanks for the info so far) -

Brian Haven't figured out the drive time yet, but if I'm shooting for Portland, the route will change slightly. (checking map) Maybe I'll go via Bend/US20/OR22 to Salem then I5 to PDX..should be about..10 hours(?). If I leave the Ranch about 6, that ought to put me in Portland about 4..just in time for commute hour. Maybe there's a bypass to Vancouver. PDX guys, is the 205 worth it, or just another traffic jam like I-5? We've got telephones, so keeping in touch ought not be a problem. -

JB: yeah, Thursday night. I figure there'll be plenty of opportunity to tent camp and sleep in our cars at the show. Might as well be comfy the night before, and have a decent breakfast thrown in too:) . -
Blaster coil + no ballast resistor = fried coil

I've had my Blaster for 2 or 3 years now, no problems. Just my 2 bucks -

Yeah, I was thinking of getting one of those 2 or 3 bedroom suites at someplace like a Residence Inn..free breakfst. Possibly lower cost if we split, nicer hotel is bonus:) . -

Well, if you plan on overnighting there, I can prolly find a hotel in Vancouver we can split (or whatever). Jeremy, JB..are you in? -

If you guys are all going to meet up in Portland, I can crash nearby. Last time I was there, the morning commute hour crossing town was a nightmare..I was thinking of maybe overnighting on the Vancouver side to avoid the mess, and meeting the caravan there. -

What I'm shooting for is not only the shortest route, but the coolest ambient temperature route (my rig has no AC). I figure any route that goes through National Forests will be high elevation and have lots of tall trees. That route seems to be best. Jeremy, maybe Scott can meet at your place, and we can leave from there? (CA I-5 =ugh!) -

Yeah Brian, I figure it worked well when we overnighted in Eugene for 3, especially when we met up Friday morning for the "big caravan" north to Thurston. We'll see how it shakes out. -
OK, I know it's a little early for this, but this'll give us plenty of time to discuss our travel plans. NorCal members, you are of course welcome. Here's what I was thinking: leave the Ranch about 5 or 6 in the morning Thursday, join with a few members near Reno. Continue up 395 to Susanville, north on 139 (turns into 39 in Oregon) to Klamath. North on US97, west on 58 to Eugene. Overnight there, probably join more members Friday morning, and I-5 north (the rest is self explanatory) to WCSS.

Ignition coils for the RX.
NV Zeno replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you want to upgrade your ignition with one of those mentioned above, some are C A R B "approved"..they'll come with a sticker for your car saying so. Shoot for a specialized speed shop, they'll have a much better selection than Kragens. Just my 2 bucks -
Thermo switch replacement....
NV Zeno replied to NVBigBlue's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you can't get one from the parts places, usually the gal at South Shore Motors can get it, and I've had good luck with the older stuff being in stock at Lithia in Reno. Stuff Michel Hohl in CC, they're major crooks after they give lousy service and attitude. -
Oooooo! check out this soob site
NV Zeno replied to kingwill's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yup, Joe Spitz's...I was surfing around years ago when I found that site, and then somehow I landed here:grin: ..maybe by way of Junkie's old site, before he moved to California. Can't recall the exact order, but both were seen before the old USMB.
