  1. Nice straight rig, but no AC? EEK! Those parking lot scenes look a little familiar..perhaps Oakland or Berkeley?
  2. Actually, the lot behind the main DMV in Carson City is like that too. the ice melts during the day, and the runoff from the plowed snow re-freezes at night. Lots-o-fun after dark:brow: (lots-o-Johnny Law, too).
  3. Yeah Dave, that front seal was a snap to change. I did mine a few years ago, around 200 or 225K. Instant stop leak (from there, anyway... ). Glad to hear it worked!
  4. Gotcha Shan, we'll keep Junkie and the Reno/Tahoe guys in the loop for a snow run..maybe we can even coax Mike "Turbosoob" into joining us:) !
  5. Kurt, Funny you should mention downtown Santa Rosa... A couple of years ago, on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, we were out "celebrating" at that Mexican restaurant (The Cantina?), came outside into the rain. When we arrived at the Cantina, I couldn't shut the engine off with the key (stuck ON). Stalled the engine, disco'd the battery, went inside. Upon leaving, we pushed the car to start it, the cable snapped (in the usual way, same as y'all). Remember, we're on a 4-day-weekend's eve..ran a few lights, got to my "bud with lots-o-tools"'s place on the westside (Fulton Rd.). Good luck getting parts, my car was stranded there until Monday afternoon. After some fast talking and a little luck, "Lots-o-Tools" let me borrow his POS BMW (..And I do mean POS!!) so I could get back (my then) home to Pleasanton, and back to work..he delivered my car to me, couldn't stand to be another day away from that POS of his..good riddance, it was embarrassing to drive it to work! Terrible luck..A DOUBLE failure (ig. switch and C-cable), on the night before a major holiday weekend, downtown, in the rain..ugh! Replaced both with new Genuine Subaru parts, no problems since:cool: .
  6. Ummm...I don't think it got up to freezing here today ...:-\ Right now, I'm looking at, um, 11degrees (above).
  7. Hi Shan.. Have you replaced the clutch itself? I've been told that as the pressure plate springs wear and age, they get really stiff. The friction material may not be worn, but the springs may be. Considering where you live and drive, there's a lot of shifting (crashboxing's not that practical in SFO), and stop-and-go (on hills nonetheless:rolleyes: ), all putting pressure on the clutch cable. Sounds like we need to put together another Wrench-Fest:brow: .
  8. Brrr..xtra-cold. The lot at Mt Rose was PACKED this weekend, lots-o-ice.
  9. JB I think there's a couple of showings later (maybe nxt week?) at Caesars Casino in South Shore, and also one in Carson City. WWW.warrenmiller.com ought to have times and dates. I think I'll go play in the ice for awhile before the show:grin: .
  10. Yeah, there are a "few" extra cars/people:rolleyes: . Both showings of the Warren Miller ski movie last night and tonight at the Cal-Neva casino are sold out. Subaru doughnuts served in the parking lot afterwards:brow: .
  11. Lots-o-snow falling here now..big flakes, too. Finally the ski resorts can open full blast, their parking lots ought to be nice and icy tonight when they freeze. Can anyone say,"doughnuts?" http://www.theflumetrail.com/webcam/
  12. Well. I was going to post earlier that we hadn't had any snow here for a couple of weeks. Everything's been dry, but cold. None of the parking lots are "covered in snow", but most of the Forest Service trails in Tahoe are closed. The forecast just a few minutes ago called for some snow this weekend. Didn't sound like a "big dump" storm, but at least it's something (if any snow actually falls). My 2 bucks
  13. OK, since there are going to be "flatlanders";) , we could hit Doyle Grade again, farther in this time..not as steep and rough as Silverfork. My $2 suggestion.
  14. I'll try and get over there before dark one of these days, and have a look-see. Not much snow has fallen since that dump before Halloween, it may very well be open, at least as much as last time we went. I'll let ya know. JB and Jeremy, are ya interested?
  15. Of course I'm in:) . Sundays work best for me. Silverfork worked great last time..ought to be more snow there now.
  16. There are a few Pick-n-Pull yards around the Bay Area, no need to go all the way to Rancho C or San Jose. Caution! Do NOT do business with Pick Your Part (orange octopus logo) in Hayward..major crooks! Here's a link to Pick n Pull: http://picknpull.com/. The Newark (Fremont) yard usually has a good supply of Subes. Good luck:) !
  17. I've noticed the poor mileage on the Fords too..vast improvement as the miles are racked up. I got teens MPG on a Taurus when new, and near 30 after 20,000 miles. Can't tell you after that (RIP).
  18. How about a Ford Escape? Gotta have the V-6..decent power, AWD available. Not as huge as a Pathfinder, etc. The new Freestyle is actually a Five Hundred made into a wagon, but is a little larger than the Escape.
  19. Could be either the cable as descibed above, or the springs (fingers?) on the pressure plate are worn..either could cause a stiff pedal. I've had it both ways:rolleyes: .
  20. Just kind of an update..I got a better look at that EA82 wagon mentioned above. Young driver, prolly in his early 20s. Car now has a red hood with a hole cut in it, to accommodate the intercooler sticking out, no shroud or scoop..just naked. Chrome rims, but I don't think they were Cal-Masters..might have been re-drilled Toyota or aftermarket rims. Exhaust looked like a milder version of the kind the "boy racers" put on their lowered, winged Hondas. Made a nice sound, too..not the obnoxious loud "BRRAAPP!" common to the Boy Racer Hondas.
  21. I may have the same bearing that's shot, but before I start tearing apart my tranny, I have a couple of questions: What makes you think it's that bearing..any tranny noises or vibrations in the steering wheel? Did the steering wheel shake? Does the noise clear up after driving awhile? I was looking in the FSM, and it seems like a pretty straightforward job, as described above.
  22. Brian, I've had those symptoms on a couple of cars over the years, and it turned out each time to be a bad (or loose) spark plug wire. Couldn't hurt to throw a new set on, Autolite lifetime guarantee wires at Kragens are only about 25 clams or so. My 2 bucks
  23. IIRC when I lived in PHX (Scottsdale), we always found lots of big yards along Broadway, around 35th Ave..river bottom, I believe..AMA Auto Wrecking comes to mind.
