  1. Well, well. He's alive. Good to have ya back here, old friend. That's a good looking Forester, but Idk about those gold rims..of course you know I'm a "stock" kind of guy. Great job on the headlights. That Camry is disturbing. Welcome home!
  2. Rats. I had a couple of really nice ones from my old '83. Had them for lots of years, but ended up giving them away to one of the guys at the last WCSS. Too bad..I'm in 89451, really close to Reno. Try Moosens. He has LOTS of older gen stuff.
  3. I'm nearing 265,000 on my '96. Runs great, even stopped most of the leaks! My 2 bucks.
  4. You're getting lots of rain/water there, hope you're high and dry. (Got a good friend w/ auto repair shop near downtown Fulton, he's getting a little soggy) Welcome.
  5. I worked in the rental car business for many years (just retired from it last summer), and despite the reputation that Honda had in the past, the quality is just not "way ahead", as it used to be. We got every brand and configuration of every car made for the US and Canada, and in the realm of minivans, the Chryslers are far and away "king". Over the last gen or two, the interiors in the Hondas (and those awful Toyotas) has been just plain weak. Chintzy quality, quick to wear through and impossible to remove stains. Drivetrain life and reliability are all about the same nowdays. Chrysler has a LOT of junk out there too (Avenger: LOL!!), but the vans are the best in the industry, by far. My 2 bucks
  6. Lookin good, man. Hope to meet it in person at the next WCSS.
  7. OK, thanks for the feedback. Owner still debating whether to get a newer car, or do the repairs.
  8. I replaced the oil pump in my EA81 many years ago, and do recall it was a straightforward job. As stated above there was a tight fit to remove and install it, we just had to be gentle and patient (both of which I am not). Leaving the sender attached certainly helped in the removal process. Just my 2 bucks
  9. I've got a friend with a '02 Forester..leather, big sunroof, auto trans, 2.5 non turbo. 135,000 miles. It's been maintained for the most part by a local mechanic, new timing belt (earlier this year). One of the head gaskets is just starting to microscopically fail, which I understand is kinda expected. The owner is debating whether or not to do the repair, or sell as is and get another Forester. If I were to acquire this car and do the gasket job, will I expect to have another gasket failure in another 100K down the road? I'm not a big fan of the 2.5, but I figure with new head gaskets and timing belt it should be reliable for many years. It's actually a pretty nice car..interior is in very good shape, and a few scrapes and blemishes to the body. Opinions, comments? Thanks!
  10. For informational and statistical purposes here, my '96 Leg Outback has a 6K tach. EJ22, 5MT, mfg date 10/95.
  11. Nice lookin' BRAT! Extra cool with the 15" Pugs. I don't recall trees of that sort and size anywhere near Pahrump (it's been prob 15 years since I was there last).
  12. My sis lives in Yuba city..Welcome to the Board! 75K on a '97? Heck, it's not even broken in yet. If you take minimal care of it, you should be able to get to get over 263K, like my '96. Lots of good info and connections can be made here. Pick-n-Pull is your friend!
  13. I look forward to meeting it when finished.
  14. 1996 2.2 engine. Referring to the post from Fairtax about the cam plug being a possible source of an oil leak: I replaced my valve cover gaskets recently (like earlier this year), and just learned of the cam plug at this year's WCSS. If I were to order that part, what would I look for? I looked at Rock Auto's catalog under "Camshaft seal", but doesn't seem right. Am I looking for a gasket, O-ring, or something else completely?
  15. Very nice daily driver..but on the other hand, very liftable!
  16. Well, another successful WCSS. The venue was fabulous, the trip to and from Nevada was wonderful, and as always it was good to see old friends. Thanks to all responsible for organizing such a huge event, it would not even be possible without you. THANK YOU!! Please post pix here, we'd all like to see the weekend from another perspective. There was also aerial footage taken of mudpit activities, that'd be cool to see also. Just my 2 bucks
  17. It's been a few years, but I did that swap on my '83 wagon. Just make sure you match the driveline types. What I mean is if your '84 is 4WD, the donor EA82 car has to also be 4WD. Rotors, calipers, backing plates are all that was needed. Once installed, you may have to CAREFULLY modify the brake lines leading to your new calipers, otherwise they will snag or rub (can't remember). There is a good step by step guide: Scroll way down to "The ultimate Subaru Repair Manual" section from the home page. A little more to "Transmission, Axle and Brakes". Click on that. On page 2, down to "Rear Disc Conversion on EA81 & EA82's". Click. There ya go. :-)

  19. I work for a car rental company and have driven just about every model available in North America (except most exotics). The problem you describe is present in every Subaru product built in the last ten years or so. The Subarus are probably the worst (and I really hate saying that). Just my 2 bucks
  20. If you're going to WCSS, I can bring a lock that fits into the same space as that mechanism in question. Simple R&R. Comes with a key..I can even help you install it, if need be.
  21. Rats Paul, I just got back from there (Flagstaff area)! I'd like to have met you face to face after all this time. Yes, lots of Subarus there..almost like Tahoe. I'm sure ASU has changed a lot since I last went there in '82 (and I was old then, LOL). What route do you think you'll be taking back home..maybe a meet is still possible!
