  1. Alamo is hard to miss, it can be seen from I-80 as far away as Ascuaga's Nugget:D .
  2. Here ya go: http://picknpull.com/The_Company/the_company.html See ya at 8?
  3. Brian, if you decide to skip Sparks and go to just Carson, it'll be much quicker to take 50 thru South Tahoe..straight shot to Carson from Sacto. I can show you a shortcut around the major choke points in South Shore, if interested. Be careful with the loud pedal, the NHP and CHP have been in "Crackdown Mode", especially on 80.
  4. Yeah, lots-o-good stuff at Sparks for sure, but that dinky parking lot is murder and I think Greg St. is "no parking" at the curb (read,"long hike" ). I wouldn't mind having a look there, but if you guys want to skip Sparks I'm satisfied with just Carson. Might want to get there B&E though. We could make a ""Mini-pre-WCSS-NV-Meet" out of this, if we decide on lunch someplace nearby...suggestions? Just my 2 bucks, I'm still unsure I'll be able to attend:rolleyes: .
  5. I've seen that car (or one just like it) a long time ago, I think around Carson City, maybe Dayton. Was going the other direction and couldn't follow...actually my friend spotted it, and pointed it out to me. Lots of weird customization around there. Jeremy, did you get snow last night? Got about 4" in Tahoe and a dusting in the hilly 'hoods around Carson..snow in May, yippee!!
  6. Brian, I was breifly at the CC yard a couple of weeks ago, the gen 1's were fewer than we're used to seeing. On the other hand, a lot can change in the meantime (fingers crossed for ya).
  7. Castrol Super Clean (purple bottle) worked great for me... The trick is to let it soak long enough, then simply rinse..just like downtown:D .
  8. On the occaisions that I've visited the Sparks yard, I've been given great deals by the nice young lady in the second window..just be very pleasant and respectful to her:) .
  9. I know what you're thinking Brian, "Dave's gonna say, "leave it stock"". I'll leave the room now.
  10. Steve, Wally's is not a dealer, it's an independent repair shop with an excellent reputation. I think they're on (West) Sahara, or at least on that side of town. Can't go wrong there.
  11. Try taking it to Wally's, on Sahara (If I remember right). He's got a great reputation among the Acura/Honda crowd, real honest shop. Was the Sube dealer on Decatur that went under? PS: You need to get that car up to Lake Tahoe, more Subarus than anything else..and everybody knows how to work on them:) .
  12. (After rereading your original post) Ed, the way my bud with lots-o-tools (was an Amsoil dlr at the time) got to the extended interval of I think it was 25 or 50K, was to install a Bypass Filtration system. This cost him a few bucks for the parts for the conversion (installed it himself), and I believe he merely changed the filter and added a quart every 5000 miles. This was on his '87 BMW. That car sits to this day in front of his barn with a blown engine (oil related) with about 285,000 on it. It has not been a particularly reliable car, and had many oil leaks during its lifetime. On a personal note, I love razzing him about my '83 EA81 with the same miles, run on a lifetime of dino oil, still running strong, all 70 horses( ). My 2 bucks again
  13. Ed, I use synth lubes (mostly Amsoil brand, BTW) in everything BUT the engine. Almost 300K now, and I've used everything from the $2.99/gal stuff at Target, to the premium dino blends. Seems like the engine has been the most trouble free component..still runs strong, no leaks or smoking. I figure regular changes at about 5000 mile intervals and a quality filter has contributed, also. My 2 bucks.
  14. I agree with Andrew (Hondasuks). I've got Haynes, Chilton, FSM, and "...Subaru Alive". The FSM and Haynes have been the most useful, especially as a reference. "...Subaru Alive" is a good read and very informative, but I usually go to the Haynes or FSM for a quick piece of info I need to look up.
  15. That may be both good news and bad. Bad news is due to the part of Washoe County you live in, your car will probably fail emissions testing. Good news is that we can do some more 4wheeling..how's this Sunday?
  16. Spotted parked at Pizza Barn in Gardnerville, Nevada: 1984 wagon: Raised roof, similar to EA 82 style No roof rack Digital dash 4speed Dual- Range Door handles, mirrors, gas cap black Metallic "maroon", not sure of the code or name..looked original, considering condition Tan interior ragged Alloys: 13" "split 4 spoke" (TSJ, like on your BRAT) Tan headliner stock, no tears or "modifications" On the tailgate: Left side where the "4WD" badge goes is a badge that has 3 designations on it, stacked 3 high: top level sez (in white), "1800", Second (middle), in larger, red: "4WD", Bottom, (white, same font as 1800), "GLF". On the passenger side just "SUBARU" in large chrome letters. I was "Without camera" when this rig was spotted, but I may be able to find that car again. I was with a Gardnerville local that's seen that car parked there often. My guess is that's a very late production 1984 model, just before the EA82s came out. (Totally guessing) Anyone else see one like this before?
  17. Optical illusion, or is Tim's hair showing some gray along the sides:lol: ? (At least he has enough hair to turn gray:rolleyes: ...)
  18. "and need me to pull you out!!!! " Didn't we have this discussion before, pix included:lol: ? I don't mind driving the distance to the trails, it's the heat (I'll melt:rolleyes: !). Lots of beautiful stuff around Tahoe, and the temps are a lot more comfortable. I've been watching..most of the snow is gone, USFS trails ought to be open soon.
  19. Might be a dead O2 sensor. I've seen it happen that way, particularly on GM junk I mean vehicles.
  20. Y'know Tim, I doubt you'd count it as an outing unless you got stuck. Sure would like to see a pic, just to confirm the visualization in my mind:lol: . Glad to hear a good time was had by all, would have been fun to watch.
  21. I've tried several aftermarket versions, none seemed to fit all that well. I did the hose clamp routine and it was functional, but not "just right". I just went over to my local Pick-n-Pull and found a used one in acceptable condition..wasn't too difficult. Now it's "Just like Downtown":) .
