  1. This isn't really meant to be directed at the fairgrounds folks, but could you see if there's a nearby coin-op carwash? Also, camping availability, showers, etc...
  2. Subarukid, I might be able to meet up with you to hit some of the local trails on Sunday. I'll know more definitely later in the week.
  3. Brian Wait a minute..didn't I pull you out at the last Kyburz run? There are pix and witnesses. http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo96/IMAG0062_Small?full=1
  4. Jeremy Doyle Grade is where we go cutting Xmas trees (with the USFS permit, of course). It's north of you: 395 north of Hallelujah Junction, into California , north of railroad crossing. Doyle Grade is well signed on the left. Take Doyle past pavement's end into USFS land, voila.
  5. Brunswick Canyon is really rough. Lots of big sharp bowling ball size rocks. The hill out Goni Road (behind the airport) has lots of trails, one goes over to New Washoe City. Then there's Jumbo Grade, I'd like to try that. I believe Kings Canyon still has lots of snow, especially up at the top (can be seen from Spooner Summit (US 50)). There's a few easy trails just off of Deer Run St., going east towards Brunswick. Good for 2WD.
  6. Brian, you posted as I was typing, heh heh. The washout I saw was impassable. A complete and sheer washout, no way around.
  7. I tried Kings Canyon, from the top of Spooner a couple of years ago. I went a couple of miles, then a nasty washout made me turn back (I was by myself, out of cel service). I went up from the Carson side a few weeks ago, got past the campground a few hundred yards, but the sharp rocks embedded in the trail kind of made me a little leery, afraid to shred a tire (also by myself then). Prison Hill was OK, quite different than Tahoe or Doyle. A good place to go offroad for a "quickie"..just watch out for motorcycles.
  8. I'm up for a yard run/mini meet, we'll have to coordinate with Jeremy and Subarukid.
  9. Rats..looks like I'll "have" to spend another day at Mt. Rose! :D
  10. Hey Jeremy, is the Sparks yard open on Sundays? Subarukid, here's where the Ponderosa is: http://bonanzaworld.net/bwgallery/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=598&fullsize=1
  11. Welll... We can have a "mini-meet"...I spend a lot of time in CC, whadya have in mind?
  12. Richard, Here's a link to CVAxles.com: http://cvaxles.com/ . The numbers are different, as you can see. I called United, couldn't get a straight answer. The skiing's been wonderful here, a good dump just about every weekend. That season pass at Mt. Rose is getting a real workout! Looks like being thousands of miles away from your tools hasn't changed you much. Quick question, is your car right hand drive?
  13. Yeah, I discovered disposable gloves about 5 years ago. Others that came before me (and that are near) are of the "dirty hands" variety, I'm more of a shirt-and tie type. I've lost count of how many bags I've used up since discovery. BTW, the bagged latex gloves available at Home Depot are the brand preferred by me;) .
  14. Now I guess you kind of understand my point of view for keeping my multicolored hood, LOL.
  15. Lookin' good Brian. I especially like the screening in front of the headlights. Think it'll protect against any more light poles:lol: ? We gotta get you a new hood.
  16. Same thing happened to me, awhile back. Turned out my "new" axle was of poor quality...the DOJ (the inner) was toast! Recommendation: stay away from ARI brand rebuilt axles. Absolute worst.
  17. Brian Looks like we're headed for a "Double Tranny Swap Wrench Fest", eh?
  18. I've always replaced the throw out bearing with the clutch, and both are relatively recent. I'm going to assume the "bearing in the flywheel" is also called the "pilot bearing", the one pressed into the flywheel?
  19. A bud towed a small enclosed U-Haul from Portland (Ore.) to Phoenix, AZ via Las Vegas in mid summer, no problems. EA 81 coupe. Don't expect to be going too fast, especially on uphill grades. Please be aware of traffic behind you, pull off if neccessary.
  20. Hmm..It's worked great configured that way since installation a couple of years ago.
  21. AFIK, I've got a 80-82 D/R in my '83 wagon. The clutch is stock '83. Does that mean I'm in a "just barely fit" situation?
  22. That kind of answers to my problem, leaking grease from around that output shaft. I'm getting a growling when coasting, so I'm figuring something is worn around there. Boy, does it stink when the grease drips on the cat!!
  23. OK, now that I'm sure about the years/ ratios, how do I identify one from the other? Are there numbers somewhere on the body of the unit identifying the model year? Assume the transmission has been removed, and there are several to choose from.
