  1. OK, thanks fellas. Just the info I've been looking for. Mendo: Glad to hear you're home in one piece.
  2. Speaking of beer (and going WAY off topic), Corky, have you ever heard of "Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout"? Picked some up the other day..not quite as smooth as some others, but a decent stout.
  3. I agree with Noah above. Never liked anything lowered, especially a Subaru. Nice job.
  4. Just making sure here (after a failed extensive search), The 4th gear ratio is taller on the 83/84 models than the 80-82's, right?
  5. Nah, her money's safe, pulled out when she moved to Sunnyvale. When I was in that neighborhood a couple of years ago, a lot of the buildings looked the same as when she moved there, in the early 60's. Hey, is the Lariat Bar still there? On El Camino, west side, between Ralston and Holly (closer to Ralston)? Grampa's hangout;) . (edit) IIRC, real close to Harbor(St., Blvd., whatever).
  6. Wasn't John arreasted in L.A.? The bank location is right, wasn't that the branch on ElCamino Real? My grandma had a bunch of money in there at one time, during the years (way back) she lived in Belmont, couple blocks off Ralston.
  7. You'll be back..they ALL come back, MWWWHAAHAHAHAAAA!
  8. I will admit right now that I don't know much about plow equipment, but I'll tell you what I've seen: In Carson City (NV), there's an early-70's era F-100 with a plow attachment that's got what appears to be a semi-clear (possibly) fiberglass blade. The top and bottom are supported by steel of course, and IIRC, there's a couple of vertical steel pieces supporting the fiberglass blade from the rear, following the curvature of the fiberglass blade. Not sure of tilt, but I think the up and down may be electric. Carson and Reno are not a really heavy snowfall towns (not nearly as heavy as Tahoe, 2000 ft. higher), a big dump in Carson is around 5 or 6 inches, and not every day. Closest I figure, that truck is owned by an apartment or small casino. If interested, I can keep a sharper eye out for it, and get a closer look.
  9. Richard, Since you're thousands of miles away from your tools, why not just run the ECVT until it dies? If it's a fresh rebuild, it ought to last a little while, at least. I don't know how long it will last with your lead foot (heh heh), you can always do the swap later, if needed. s/ Dave
  10. Alexx I just thought of something. While in Big Bear on vacation recently, I noticed a substatial number of older Subes. I don't know how close you are to there, but might be worth the drive to find a good shop.
  11. I know these may be a hair north of Southern California, but both are excellent with our older models: Norm's Auto Repair 2186 Ruth Ave South Lake Tahoe, CA (530) 544-0953 Independent Automotive 865 Bergin Way Sparks, NV (775) 358-8193
  12. Re: my previous post: Please don't misunderstand me..I really like going/being in Vegas, but I don't think I could hack living like that again. It's very similar to Phoenix during the 70's and early 80's..few freeways, lots of growth and traffic (don't forget the relentless heat!). Corky's right, there's lots to see and do. Many times while I'm there visiting neighbors or on business, I skip the casino and take advantage of the great prices on food and hotel rooms. Try PT's Pub on Spring Mountain..ham and eggs breakfast for 1.99! Walking away occaisionally with a few thousand bucks is kinda nice too. Just be careful when 4wheelin' in the desert.. you might discover the remains of someone who was "whacked" about 40 years ago. Have fun!
  13. Corky, you took the words right out of my fingers, LOL.
  14. Yeah, a great place to go, as long as I know I'll be leaving.
  15. ...And it's way worse now than it was not too long ago.
  16. Time to go 4wheelin'. I found a few places around Carson City, and some trails down in Douglas County. Whenever you're ready...
  17. Dave, I'll PM ya with my contact info.
  18. Mendo If Sonora (108) is closed, you can definitely cross over on 88, Carson Pass/Spur. You'll have to go up to almost Gardnerville, but it's a great drive. Plenty-o-snow around Kirkwood. 50 ain't bad, either. Too close to Tahoe not to at least buzz through (take NV-207). I can recommend a cool little hotel (small $$) in Tahoe if need be (I may be in the Bay Area then). I'd avoid I-80 (Donner) at just about any cost..it's "Spinning Tourist City" on that route. You can check current road conditions and closures, call (800) 427-7623. (I remember it by 800- GAS-ROAD:cool: ) Never been to Travertine, but heard of it, and of course passed by many times on the way to Vegas.
  19. Dave Ater Bridgeport, then where? 120 (Tioga Pass) through Yosemite is closed this time of year, 108 (Sonora Pass) may be closed too..89 (Monitor) & 4(Ebbets), definitely. ICOE, there are lots of EA81s in Mammoth Lakes, parts and "professional help" available there. US 395 = Beautiful drive.
  20. Hey Paul- If the cable is snapped in two, I've done that repair (back in the 70's). I just pulled both ends of the cable towards each other as tight as I could, and "fastened" them together with a pair of Vise-Grips. Just like Downtown:D .
  21. I've been usung Fram filters (fuel only, not oil), available at Kragen...couple bucks.
  22. My heat shields "look" fine too, but still hum like mad at certain RPM. Yeah, Independent..right off McCarran and I-80.
  23. My vote goes first with the rear filter. Without hearing the "marbles" sound, my second guess would be loose heat shields..mines' certainly got that issue, LOL. If you decide to seek "professional help" there's an excellent Sube shop in Sparks.
