  1. EA82 is not my favorite model of Subaru, but I've gotta say..that's a really nice car.
  2. Ironic this topic is revived. I just saw my copy of the Subarubicon DVD in with the collection of my music CD's.
  3. I don't have that problem on my '96 OB, but I do on my Acura Legend. Performed as described, voila! Worked like a charm. Thanks!!
  4. Ya know, there are other sources besides Craigslist. Autotrader.com comes to mind. Found and sold many used cars through them. Might be worth a look.
  5. I work at a car rental place, we get cars with dog hair often. That rubber brush described above works great, especially in "hair magnets" like Mazda3 and Mazda5 carpets, and that awful Mitsubishi upholstery. Nothing beats a good powerful Ridgid shop-vac. Just my 2 bucks
  6. Wow. I need to check the board more often. Ed Certainly had an impact on me. All the neat stories about Bolivia, advice about EA81's, and just plain hanging out with him at the WCSSes. An all around Great Guy. This is a huge loss to our Subaru community.
  7. Totally cool, Dave. You've got quite a beastie there. Please say hi to the missus.
  8. Hmm. Been awhile since I've been to Independent. IIRC there's another shop in Carson that I've seen old Subes at, called Sunrise (Subaru/Honda specialists) . Might be worth a call.
  9. Road: "Independent Automotive" on Bergin way (just off Mc Carran/80, might be Sparks over there). Those guys are great with older Subes, prob the best I've seen in Reno. Unless of course you'd like to try Norm's up here in Tahoe...
  10. It's at the point for me that I'll not get parts from anywhere else..they're that good. Website is a breeze to use, decent prices, some cool specials. They even still have plenty of selection for my '87 Acura Legend! Highly recommended. Just my 2 bucks
  11. Yeah, my wagon got eaten by a deer coming down Spooner Grade awhile back. Got a sweet '96 Outback now, a General Disorder Special. He got my wagon in trade, fixed it up and last I heard, it's back in San Francisco! My new office (most of the time) is in Truckee, with 3 or 4 roundtrips to the airport in Reno every day. I can easily meet up with y'all afer work. Might do me some good to stay a few hours in the "Big City" once in awhile, LOL.
  12. I remember going to Moonrocks with you and some of the other guys a few years ago. Cool place to go that's close to home!
  13. BTW, could you please post here when problem has been solved. Would be great to know what worked.
  14. Had that happen on my '83 a couple of years ago. Solved it by spraying carb cleaner all over the outside of the carb (and some inside). Must have loosened whatever was causing the linkages to not open the secondary. Problem never returned. Make sure to remove the air cleaner to aid access for spraying. IIRC, I used about 1/2 can of Gumout.
  15. Wow, it worked on my old '83, and on my Acura, too! Looks like my current '96 has been around: http://www.texasdirectauto.com/listings/autocheck.ashx?vin=4S3BG4855T6376884 Pretty cool.
  16. Got a '96 from General Disorder early 2012, had over 200K. Got about 238K now. Has been an excellent car. Smokes a little after long downhill coasts from Tahoe, but Just about every other Sube of that era does that. Completely satisfied. Just my 2 bucks
  17. One possibility: the ducwork is leaking. Those flexible pipes that lead to all the outlets may be torn, disconnected, or just plain rotted out. Might be worth a look.
  18. Update: Upon arrival in Arizona, the first order of business was to replace the radio. Ended up with an Alpine CDE-133 BT..with built in Bluetooth! Installed at a cool indy stereo place in Prescott for under $200. Works great! Friend reported having to find and repair source of gasoline smell coming into the cabin. AFAIK, this has been solved, no more comments or complaints about that issue. It was surprisingly smooth transferring ownership and registering her car in Arizona. Once our number was called at the MVD office the entire transaction only took about 10 minutes..probably took me more time to find the correct screwdriver to install the license plate than our time at the window. At first, Friend was disappointed with the gas mileage, but over time I think she's got used to it. The tradeoff is she feels more secure in her Outback than the Nissan Versa she was driving for awhile. Thanks, //Dave
  19. Yep, looks like we're going to have to replace the unit. Thanks guys for all your input. It is much appreciated. Now I'm off to deliver this car from the Ranch to Arizona, with no radio. Wish me luck!
  20. I'll try the CD player, but I'm doubtful. There is no sound whatsoever, even the "dead air" hiss of no reception. It's bloody cold right now, I'll try tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion, it's worth a try. GD- I've still got the '96. It's performing wonderfully, thank you. The '01 I got from my neighbor and plan to give to a dear friend who had her car totaled recently.
  21. 2001 Outback: Radio has power, lights up and tunes into stations on all bands, but no sound. Earlier in the day the alternator was replaced because of a voltage regulator gone bad, which I also hold responsible for blowing out a few light bulbs in the car, as well as the low beam headlights. It's a stock AM/FM/WB/ cassette/ single disc player. Is there a separate amp to the radio that may have been fried due to the voltage spike? Maybe there was a fuse blown that I missed?
  22. As expected, I found very detailed records have been kept for this car, and am satisfied that this will be a good buy. The timing belts and all the stuff related to that job, were done at 96,000. The coolant was periodically flushed, and the liquid treatment was added each time. There are no signs of leaks. All work was done at the local dealer, and at the manufacturer's recommended intervals (30, 60,90, 120K). Thanks for pointing out the main issues to look for and verify, that is much appreciated. I think the hardest part of this transaction will be transferring ownership from a Nevada owner to an Arizona buyer. They can get a bit wierd down there. Luckily, not going Pima or Maricopa counties, so no smog inspection hassles. Again, thanks.
  23. Hey guys, long time no post (but I have been lurking). I have an opportunity to buy from my very conscientious neighbor her '01 Outback, 120K, auto, 2.5. My main question is, knowing about the record of headgasket failures in the 2.5 engine, at 120K would that failure most likely have taken place? The timing belts and water pump were replaced at about 100K. This car had most of if not all maintenance done at the 2 dealerships in Northern Nevada. Opinions? Think the potential for headgasket failure is past or lessened? Thanks, /Dave
