new water pump and it runs hotter??
Meeky Moose posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ok, as most of ya know, i swapped in an engine that had sat for at least a good solid 4 years if not more.. that water pump worked, so i ran it for a day, engine temp ran at the 2nd bar on an ea81 temp gauge.. but the bearing was outa it and woblin makin noise, so i got a new one.. the new one runs a about this much ( I-I ) above that 2nd bar on the temp gauge now.. any particular reason? lol i can't seem to figure it out.. it doesn't overheat or get close so i'm not worryin about it, just seems a little strange to me.. i left the same thermostat in there also.. -

well i dinked with the hatch, got it outa 4th.. drove it to town and back.. no problems shifting, but ocasionally i had a funky drivetrain vidration, which i think is the tranny mounts.. theres practically no rubber left in them.. so for now i'll cross my fingers and hope the tranny lasts.. -

i checked, $55.98 but heres the kicker. they would take 3weeks to get them here since they are in portland/west coast i figure if i do have to buy'em from the dealer, i'll have one of ya'll in oregon/washington hit a dealer and get'em for me and fedex'm would be 10 times faster gettin them lol -
the dealer strikes agian.. bastards..

heh, one question, whered we get started on motor mounts? i got 2 pairs, both are good.. i need the tranny mounts.. the ones that hold the tranny centered on the tranny crossmember.... on another note, i went to fisher parts.. checked on an oil pressure sending unit.. they wanted $40, i passed of course.. so i asked about an oil pump.. $112. i passed on that too.. only thing i've gotten from then cheap was a water pump.. $24 with gasket.. it'd prolly be faster when i get the money for someone in portland to hit the dealer, buy the tranny mounts, and fedex'em to me.. rather than wait 3 weeks for the dealer to get'em.. lol -
kinda a dumb question....

i think i'll dink with it some more.. .. noticed my tranny mounts, well lets say, there is no rubber left in them.. just steel, so the tranny is jumpin around a bit.. just wonderin if that would cause it to bind up internally so my next attempt is new tranny mounts, which is going to be a pain in my arse to find.. easy to put in tho.. -

lol, for ****s and giggles i called advance, they had'em but they wanted $65 for one and $105 for the other.. i think he musta been lookin at the wrong part cause they're both identical... just kinda amusing.. -
well i call the parts store to track down some tranny mounts.. figure that might be some of my problem.. parts stores don't have'm, so i call the dealer.. they want $55.98 +tax for 2 little pieces of rubber and steel that i can fit in the palm of my hand.. on top of that they tell me theres only 1,100 of them in the country and will take 3 weeks to get some cause they are coming from portland, OR. i kindly told them thanks, and hung up.. not doin that.. i'll hit a boneyard and find some decent ones before i pay that, and wait that long...

on my hatch.. i know theres a dipstick for the front diff.. does that also fill the trans? i have always assumed that they share the fluid..

heh my lifted webered hatch got 26mpg in 4low drvin from jersey to virginia, lol i did notice it gettin worse after i figured out the futzed linkage and got it into 2wd.. even tho the speedo says i'm goin 10mph slower than what i really am. i can still peg it at 85.. which is about 95 really.. so somethings wrong with yur guy's soobs fer sure.. i did notice hookin up the emissions tubing, it ran worse.. so i left it vented.. which it is a suction anyways, so not really polluting..

thanks General.. i just swapped that ea81 out this weekend, thats what ticks me off so much. just got a good engine in it, that runs awsome.. then the first time i drive it, the tranny goes.. thats my frustration right there.. this ole wagon i got from Bill Putney, cost me $500 in febuary, i put a clutch in it, and have driven it 17,000 miles since febuary this year.. never had a problem outa it.. its gettin junked this month due to the rust.. but she's got 290k original, only burns 1 quart between changes. so thats a good soob imo.. this hatch is a defferent story.. -

you'd have dibs Jules, if i just this damn thing.. i'm still a little too pissed off about the hole thing to make a clear decision as to fix or not to fix... for all the work, and money i've put into this stupid thing, i coulda bought 3 or 4 non lifted hatch's in better shape... as far as those seats go, i might pull teh ones in the wagon when i psrt it and put them in the hatch.. but those rs seats are yours for sure.. if your gonna be home thisafternoon i'll give ya a holler.. come get all that stuff outa yur driveway lol -

thanks for the suggestions, but when ya shift it it has the "feel" of going into another gear, but is still in 4th.. you can physically feel it shift, just like normal, but the trans stay is 4th.. i'll check the 4low thingy when i get home.. again it "feels" like it shifts but nothin happens.. as far as how hard i was shifting, i was drivin along 55 mph.. see traffic slowing so i clutch, stop, shift into 1st.. start to go when traffic starts and whala, nothin but 4th gear.. it really feels like ya shift normally, but is in 4th.. reverse almost feels like a grind, but it never goes in either.. -

after it was towed home, i had my wife come out and try to shift it, she moved the shifter, i watched underneath.. everything moves as its supposed to.. just not internally.. its gone i'm afraid.. the other thing is when ya stick it in 4low its goes into nuetral.. nothin works then.. pretty sure its gone.. -
i've had it with this ****in hatch i bought from SVXpert.. i get the supposedly (new shortblock) replaced, drive the damn thing to work, go home for lunch and the ****in transmission goes out.. had the pile of **** towed home cause it wouldn't come outa 4th gear. i know i put the clutch in right because it was still workin just fine.. and all the linkage is connected properly.. i checked. so if anyone wants this POS come and get it.. i'm real tired of ****in with it..

a snow meet sounds fun, deffinitely.. just let me know when, i know how to get to remington surprizingly this engine was pretty clean, considering it sat for a couple years.. the old oil drained out at almost new consistency and was just a little blakc, no sludge, nothin.. i figure i'll run it a few hundred miles and change the oil and filter again.. the oil leaks are pretty wicked tho, drove it to work this morning, and the hole front of the oil pan was soppin with oil, along with the oil sending units drippin.. couldn't tell if the oil pan was acctually leaking or if it was just the oil pump and sending units spewing it back onto the oil pan.. Going to order a new oil pump and sendin unit today, so i can get that leak fixed.. but hell this thing runs better than the original (supposedly new shortblock) ever did.. plenty of power, no clunky rattles, vibrations, etc.. still has a little lifter clatter at about 1800rpm's, but nowhere near what the original had.. i can live with it now.. so its deffinitely back on the road again..
