heh, the hatch i bought needed a wheel bearing like no other.. junk yard grabbed a hole new hub with a nice bearing $40, the 30 min to put it in priceless. the old bearing was so far gone it had chewed the hub up pretty good inside.. i only drove it 400-500 miles gridin and woblin an 1" lol

i figured why by the expensive stuff just to run it for a littel bit and toss it.. i used advance auto parts brand dexron/mercon II was like .99 a quart..

i bought one that was supposedly supposed to fit my 86' wagon, but it didn't the bend in the fittings were different.. so i'm not sure what mine fits.. if you take a pic of yours on the side where the fittings are, i'll tell ya if the one i have is the same or not. as far as i'm concerned you can have it for the shipping. its brand new.

well i put in a clutch in the wagon i bought from Bill P. driven 16k since feb this year. the clutch feels like its not even there really, and engages almost at the top, but never slips, shudders nothing.. so i figured it was normal.. when i did it i bought OEM parts from the dealer, clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, and both bearings, and a rear main seal. so it cost me like $700 for parts alone, but the clutch is nice and solid

i drained the 500 mile old 20w50 outa it and it came out like water, smelled bad like it had gas in it.. go figure.. filled it with 4 quarts of atf.. let it run for 15-20 min.. lifters quieted down a hole bunch. almost non existent tick now.. so i drained the atf outa it, (was almost black) changed the filter and put 10w40 high mileage half synthetic mobil 1 in it. (left over from the acura). on initial startup the rod knock i was hearin sounded like i was beatin on it with a hammer.. then 5 sec later, poof gone.. so its not tickin and not knockin at the moment.. but i did see metal sparkles in the 500 mile old 20w50 i drained outa it. so i'm pretty sure the knock is a rod knock now, most deffinitely.. the other thought i had was that maybe an oil pasage was clogged, makin it knock. and the atf flushed it out, and now the bearing is getting proper oiling and not knockin.. we'll see when i drive it to work tomorrow.. the knock usually came on after it warmed up good.. but i do have a good spare engine here i'm going to tear down and do a partial rebuild on.. then when mine blows, i'll tow it home, and swap and engine some weekend.. piece of cake really.. just wanted to let ya'll know how the atf flush went.. works very well for cleanin out a clogged motor.. ohh there were no metal shavings in the atf when i drained it either..:brolleye:

well before ya sell it, i would try draining the trans completely, and filling with 80w90 its not quite as thick. when ya use thick stuff like 80w120 in an old trans with worn synchro's they sometimes grind or not go in at all.. just my opinion.. cheap fix if it works, and not time consuming the least bit..

heh, i gotta order parts for an 84 brat to get the right engine/trans parts for my hatch.. its annoying to say the least

well since this thing went scuba diving before i bought it, all the padding, carpet etc was taken out.. so half my job is done i figure.. but i was thinkin on Herculinering the entire inside of the hatch.. would keep it from rustin etc.. my question is am i really going to need that hole gallon of herculiner? or will the quart do the job? the inside of the hatch is pretty small.. was also thinkin about herculinering from the side trim on the doors on down.. would ocver up alot of missing trim, rusty rockerpanels, etc.. and make it almost as scratch and dent resistant as a Saturn... what ya'll think? anyone herculined the inside of thier hatch yet?

yeah i agree, we could have fun in lostwaters backyard.. was there yesterday pullin a motor.. the ole 2wd turbo wagon did well in the soft mushy hill climbin stuff

quite easy here in VA, everytime i get rid of a car, i just turn the plates into DMV and tell'em i sold it, or junked it.. they enter that into the system.. then if i sold the car i make the people sign the title before they get it.. and they gotta worry about thier own plates.. thats keeps my nose kleen

Looks like ya'll had a blast!! hopefully by the next meet i'll have my hatch ready to go.. might get me a trailer and haul it tho.. just in case on a good note i got another engine pulled yesterday.. Lostwater and I had fun gettin it out and up to a flat spot to do the pull

alright, well guess what i'm gonna do to my hatch tomorrow.. guess we'll find out if its a clogged oil pasage, or really a rod knock. i figure if it is a rod knock the atf will make it knock harder or blow.. and if it doesn't well i'ma drive it till it blows then replace it anyways, so doesn't matter much to me.. i know the hydro lifters are gummed, cause they tick, rattle, and clatter like hell...

arg, another fine car on the wrong coast.. if ya were on this coast i'd trade ya my gl-10 turbo wagon, minus the engine and turbo.. then you'd have all your parts and i'd have a non rusty car.. ahh well..

heh, there was not one thing he coulda gave me a ticket for really.. i had just replaced every light bulb on the outside of the car, seatbelts work, no cracks in any window, everything works, lift is totall legal due to the BIG BOOK stating the body cannot be lifted more than 3" tires are like new.. etc. etc.. and i was legal under the 15 day inspection period since the sticker had been slapped on my car the day before.. still had the shop reciept.. i just think he thought he could be funny, and thought he was pullin over some redneck in a soob.. my father was a sheriff in rio grande county co. for a good many years, so i learned what ya could and couldn't be leagally ticketed for, and have always made sure my vehicles are legal before they hit the road.. he always told me don't stick out and they'll leave ya alone, but ya know, for some reason i really like sticking out in my Soob.

yeah how much ATF / Oil in the engine for that 30 min?

that reminds me when i stopped in jiffy lube on teh way home when i bought the hatch.. i told him there was a dipstick so fill it through that.. he gave me a :eh: and a :-\ then was like, ookk.. so after he popped the hood (took him 10 min) he pulle dit out and brought it in and said, yup sure anough theres a dipstick.. thats gotta be aftermarket, cause manuals never had'em.. at this point i was tired of his idiocy, and told him just to fill it through the hole he found the dipstick in..

i'll have to come along and snag an ea81 for my hatch... when ya thinkin on doin this run? i might be able to find babysitter, otherwise i'd be dringin the kid with me.. :eh:

well if it is a rod, you can send the car my way my 84 hatch is doin the same thing... i know its a totally diff engine, but your description sounds the same as mine is doin.. i noticed mine when the exhaust got fixed... i figured if it was a rod i could rev it up to redline and hold it and it shoulda gotten worse.... but damn after 5 min at redline, its still teh same ole knock.. sometimes its there, sometimes it not.. cold, warm doesn't matter.. on top of that my lifters rattle like they are gonna fall out ( i think the mmo is cleanin it out) but over all that lifter rattle i can still hear the gremlin beatin on the inside of the engine with a hammer.. so i figure mine will need an engine here soon, but i'm gonna drive it till it pops.. i figure the more miles i get outa it the better i'll feel about just buyin the thing

yeah a pic of it would be good.. damnhatch blew a radiator hose tonight when i picked up the wife, i estimate i drove it about 5 miles without anything in it since the hose just came off the thermostat housing.. never even got above normal temp but it still needs an engine :madder: i remember when i lived in oregon and worked at a car lot, the no windshield thing was funny as hell.. we had this suzuki samarai, no windshield, but we had working wipers, so it never had a problem, was our lot car tho

dumb undercover state trooper in an unmarked explorer... anyways, he comes up to the window asks for the normal stuff.. so i gave it to him, then he asks if i knew why he pulled me over.. i said yeah, because of that rejection sticker on the windshield there... then he asks me if i was sure it was legal to drive.. i said yah everything but that damn inspection.. he says ya know its illegal with that sticker on there. i told him that i knew about the 15 day grace period to get it fixed.. then he asks what was wrong with the car (i think he thought the lift was illegal) so i gave him the paper from the shop.. it listed 3 things brake lines, inner tie rod end, and exhaust donut.. he looked it over a minute then said, well you really shouldn't be drivin it.. then i had to explain to him that my wife totaled my acura yesterday and i had no choice.. but assured him it was goin to get fixed thursday, the shop paper he looked at had that on there too... he hands me my stuff back, and says well if ya like gettin pulled over, go ahead and drive it then, ohh and ya better get the county sticker put on there too..and he gets back in his explorer and speeds off.. now i thought to myself, what a dumb Sh**, pull me over to give me a hard time about my lifted soob.. least i knew he couldn't give me a ticket for anything.. i'm still in the 15 day grace period for that rejection sticker anyways.. so i got a good chuckle today when i was out for lunch.. and i think he was so stunned by the sheer elegance of my lifted soob that he forgot to ask me for my insurance.. (which i don't have the card yet):moon:
