  1. If youve got good quality rust going on, then the lower control ARM should cut through fairly easily. Cut slowly and soak the area with the spray lubricant of your choice AS you cut. (save your blade) Cutting through the ARM should be a 10 -15 minute easy job Cutting through the HARDENED ball joint... not so much of a good idea. :-\
  2. Might be easier to unbolt the arm on the inboard side where it bolts to the x-member? Should that prove near-impossible, it is do-able to cut through the lower control arm.
  3. Everyone in the shop here just uses the regular 1/2" drive. We're talking about a square drive here. There really isnt the amount of "play" that their picture leads you to believe. I would say to keep your money... I have NEVER seen a diff drain plug strip.
  4. Dont get me wrong here, I LOVE 360s. AND Im not saying that your 360 DOESNT do 70 MPH (it obviously does) BUT... 70-something MPH is definitely top-end... and thats with modifications. I felt it might be better to be straight with people (who are used to modern horsepower) about the speed capabilities of a 360.
  5. Dont underestimate the potential of penetrants + TIME. If you hit the "other" bolt with penetrant (or even just some used engine oil) NOW ... when the day comes to do the other side you will be pleasantly suprised.
  6. If its got low rust... its a good deal! can you link to the pics?
  7. If the gasket is copper... flip it over and re use it. I have seen the aluminum ones split before. Front diff washer (copper) part #803926070 $2.37 Rear diff = no washer Tranny pan washer is the same as the oil drain plug washer FYI
  8. If you have the SMALLER diameter PCV hose, the 11810 AA040 fits nicely
  9. Major props Connie and Neo! I wanna see 'er running and driving now. (can I drive?) Also good to see yous guys at Harrys... just too bad we couldnt stay longer!
  10. Ok, Im gonna ask... what rims are those?
  11. I have some of them. This style? Hows 5 bucks each + shipping? PM me if you would like me to send em your way!
  12. What!? No replies to the ECSS thread... in the last 2 WEEKS?! Wheres Matt? (2 months to go Neo) Free bump to the top!
  13. The ad looks pretty good! If it were near me... I would buy it I guess you COULD make a daily driver of it (if you commute in-town) Down side would be a BIG lack of almost any replacement parts for it. Most all the subaru part numbers are obsolete. The cars are small, and cute. Think of a TINY volkswagon beetle.
  14. Others that are more 360 savvy will chime in here, but I can tell you 500 bucks is a STEAL if this things in decent shape. This was the first car subaru sold in the US, and there werent a lot of them sold here to begin with. 2-stroke engine (sounds like a snowmobile) Quirky little ride, but bigtime collectors item. Nothing that youd ever want to be a daily-driver. Oh, and top speed is usually around 50 - 55 mph:grin:
  15.   you have a lifted brat... you should LIVE for mud! (shakes head) I cant WAIT for the mud!!
  16. Nice! Looks good. U gonna put snows on your steelies and swap em on and off in the winter?
  17. Heres to the next 120 posts! Seriously... spring Carlisle is starting to feel like good tradition. Right now the motor for my brat is in 200 little pieces and the crankshaft is laying on rags in the shop No worries... Darlingchip and I will be there. food thread FOOD THREAD!
  18. I hope youre not afraid to get really oily and dirty. Pull your engine, and strip it. To get at the cam, you have to split the case. I recommend the HTKYSA manual for a good reference. In short, you are looking at the following. -Remove valve covers -Remove intake manifold -Remove heads -Remove oil pump, water pump, disty -Remove pistons -Remove back cover and oil pan -Split the case Youre essentially tearing the motor down as far as it can go. You will want to put a micrometer on all your bearings, etc ... and replace as necessary. Also would be a good time to deglaze your cylinders and do new piston rings.
  19. MMMM! Nice pics everyone. It was indeed a good day, with the best part saved for last... a SWEET running engine! Super good crew to work with too, lemme tell ya. Id be all involved with what I was doing, and the next time I looked up from my work... somebody had done what I was going to do next! Smooth day and a smooth running EA81!
  20. Nice score. It is getting hard to find a brat in ANY condition anymore it seems! As far as the bushing kit goes, I dont believe that Ive heard of those being offered aftermarket. I may be able to still order the OE subaru bushings. If youre interested, PM me. Also, good luck with the rear-end rust. I fixed a brat that was rusted out like that. You want to make a bracket that closely resembles the factory steel... and tie to as many good points on the unibody as you can!
