  1. Hi, and welcome to the USMB If you have a brat (or brat troubles) ....youve come to the right place! FIRST - Check all your fluids to make sure theyre up to levels. If your CV axles are all ok .....the grinding could be a wheel bearing (or a brake dragging) Make sure nothing is dragging on any moving parts underneath, and check for excessive play in the front and rear drive shaft U-joints. (MOST) engine problems are a symptom of vacuum leaks. With the engine running.....open the hood and listen closely for hissing sounds (leaks) Dont fret too awful much right away..... these brats are TOUGH, and can stand a fair amount of punishment (trust me ) Feel free to PM me with any questions, Im usually available.
  2. Thanks Connie! Some folks solve everything with the scientific method. ......I think that is the "get 'er done" method:headbang:
  3. Hey everybody, Right after I lifted my brat (and put 29" tires on it) I was confronted with some "gearing issues" I hear LOTS about everyone doing 5-speed swaps out of the ea82 series cars, but is this just going to get me a 5th gear? (I DONT need 5th.... with 29s Im only running 2k rpms at 55mph!) I have ALSO heard something about the early ea81 D/R trannies having a lower 1st gear? (THIS would be nice....as I wheel it a lot) Long and short of it ...... -My brat is an '86. -I have a 1983 D/R trans -I have a 1989 ea82 D/R trans What are the benefits/ gear differences? Thanks much!
  4. Thats pretty sweet! (that should be HONDAS that its stomping over though)
  5. WOW ....thats a NICE Craftsman lawn tractor! JK Nice lookin brat:cool:
  6. I know...... just wanted to see if she'd take credit for it:grin:
  7. RIGHT I have always found that rotors last best when used frequently. Actually, whole cars in general last best when used frequently
  8. When I stored my BAJA last winter, I took the rotors off (front and rear) too keep them from rotting. I let it sit for a month before they were removed. They were oiled, bagged, and stored at my house for the winter. Come spring, I open the bags.... and the rust that had started last fall had now brought them to the point of no return "rusted de-lamination!" *UGH*
  9. You got another set Jon? Jess is still looking for 'em!
  10. Thats never a pretty thing. Repairable.....but not pretty. Gonna need a welder/grinder for that baby:grin: Thanks for posting pics!
  11. Id like second shot at this brat if it gets that far:grin:
  12. +1 on the perf. coil being a bad idea....(at least the silver ones) Virtually no improvement over stock, and much less reliable. Would LOVE to see pics when you get 'er all done too!
  13. Impact tools arent necessary, but can be helpful sometimes. I would say for exhaust replacement, a good pentrant such as PB Blaster will be your biggest help. As long as there arent quarter sized holes in your main subframe, I would say go for the restoration! ....and post pics:grin:
  14. BETTER THAN WAFFLE HOUSE! .....mmmmmm :slobber:
  15. Riding lawn mower baby! (4WD LO-RANGE....maybe a welded rear diff?)
  16. Mine got a screwdriver through the middle of it! (sounds MUCH better now!)
  17. I would like to come up (well... darlingchip and I) if we could get a group together. Summer schedule....hmmmm. Well, with my suck-tacular JOB schedule (I work every other friggin saturday) ....it is hard(er) to set aside dates. June looks suprisingly open for right now..... any weekend there would work I think. (Ill just switch to have that sat/sun off) Anybody else game?
