This may help ya out some http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24980 Welcome to the board!

In my BAJA, I have always thrown it quickly into neutral, and she will straighten right out. THEN shift down one gear, and that provides better grab to slow down, than just using brakes........in my experience anyways.

We have had some VERY large spiders this year (for the northeast) The big ones will fill the bottom of a mason jar (no lies -I will have to try and get a picture if I can) -UGH- SHIVERS Big, furry, and they JUMP! (I thought they were MICE at first, seeing them run through the grass) A wise man once said to me "I like spiders better than most people. Sure, they look creepy, but spiders cant help the way they are" I DO agree with this, but I say if they are in "your" space.... SQUISH 'EM!!! :headbang: (sorry all you spider-lovers) -
Any New England meets?
backwoodsboy replied to labatt13's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yep.....anytime you wanna do a wheeling meet (or just a cookout/brag-a-thon) I'm there! Well, all except the winter months......then I go new-gen with my BAJA to keep my BRAT outta the salt:grin: -
MMO.....in my opinion and experience, is one of THE single most useful things to have on hand, second only to duct tape and zip ties. I have used it in the gas, the oil, and also straight down the intake. OK.... You warm your motor up, then remove your air cleaner. With one hand on the carb to throttle it up, you begin slowly pouring your MMO in. Huge clouds of smoke will follow (the MMO burning) and you increase the throttle some as it bogs down from burning Marvel instead of gas. After a minute......you stop and shut it off. Let 'er sit overnight, and in the morning, after the MMO has had time to dissolve all that gunk, your subie will run like its 1986 again! Theres nothing better. NO ill affects! **edit** You MAY want to consider doing this in a non-city setting....as it produces TONS of smoke, and someone next door may very well end up calling the fire dept. on you!

backwoodsboy replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Wow..... looks in good shape except for the hit! Price is right for an offroader.....but the metal is too sweet to do that with it. Wow. I like the topper too. They woulda sold it to me (but I have a thing for '86 brats) I'll sell you a pass fender real cheap! -Oh, btw pm me with where that 360 van was parked - I wanna check it out. -

Subaru Demolition Derby!!!!!!!!!!!
backwoodsboy replied to SuperBrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
mmmm.....yeah. Being an avid derby fan, I gotta say, that if youre gonna run a car in a derby, you gotta have a pretty solid body on it, or your just toast. WHY would anyone put a sube in a derby that had a good body on it? If you are redneck enough to run a derby car, surely you could get years of use out of a poor little soob before its derby'd Incidently.....I know what yall are talking about though......if its in there already, and youre already watching, ROOT FOR THE SUBIES!!! I say leave the derby to the dodge neons of the world (and the 1970's station wagons) and.....GIT ER DONE! -
PUSHROD CARNAGE! (w/pic)
backwoodsboy replied to backwoodsboy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
As near as I can figure, that particular valve fell way out of adjustment, and the end of it slapped into the end of the adjuster cup. Once it had even a slight bend to it, Im sure it was all over with for the high RPMs these motors see in a typical day. Im just guessing here.....correct me if Im wrong. -
PUSHROD CARNAGE! (w/pic)

(why cant everything else be this easy to fix?!) -
Well.....after running 5 qts of diesel fuel through my '86 brat (ea81) to try and "un-gunk" my hydro lifters, (with no problems BTW) I decided that something was definitely amiss when it was STILL clacking and running on 3 cyls. Sooooo, I pull the valve cover, and fondle all the pushrods (sounds so dirty) And look what we have here! -OUCH!- Four minutes later (literally) and with donor pushrod already installed .....she's runnin like its 1986 again!!!
-
Im still comin for sure, I know that (well .....coming or Ill break down trying!) I figured out my shaking problem BTW. It really helps when the poor thing is actually running on all four cylinders! (I was almost getting dirty looks from people on mopeds for a while) I'm also bringin my cabin tent, so if anybody has a sleeping bag and cot or whatever.......I have room for one or 2 people besides me.

ooooooooh! so....close..... wish it was 4 sale:brow: U didnt snap any pics did ya? -
Well, being a former car detailer......and thus having experience with all things messy:brow: (lasagna and worse:eek: ) ....I would say that your best bet is to rent a little steam cleaner, or borrow if you know somebody that has one. Probably whats happened is you still have some food stuck down under all that cleaner, and the food smell will always win. Shampoo/vacuum or steam clean it all out, and THEN hit 'er with febreeze - you should be good 2 go.

Love the mountains! Definitely the last one. -
Well guys, I've scored me a used CB radio and tow strap:banana: Also a nifty light bar and roof lights (really helps in the fields..... and when the front lights are covered with mud:brow: Im coming along with the painting too (hood, cowl, wiper arms, and drivers door so far) I think Im gonna have to wheel with my stock tires and 13" steelies though. (unless somebody has a set of beefy-er wheels/tires that'll fit and bring em to the meet for me & we'll settle on a price) ........and the BEST PART.....got me an arc welder for my 25th b-day!!!!!! :headbang: Gonna have to see if I can fab me up a sweet roll bar or something before the 15th!!!
