  1. My apologies, the Orgy remake was playing at the time and distracted me, i reckon the original suits the XT down to the ground.
  2. w00t....moar 'nfo plz. And im willing to bet ten bucks that whoever posted this comment on the vid lives here. " djmaunder (1 week ago) Woohoo! I'll buy one and chuck it into my Sube Brumby ute (aka Brat). Think of the awesome torque... Will be able to easily run 35" tyres then.
  3. Loaded Lim Chung - Whatever (Cos this is my Subaru dont touch the leather!) I heard the song years ago after someone sent it to me saying it was perfect for the XT ( they were wrong - Blue Monday was perfect). Edit: In fact i nominate Blue Monday - Orgy as the official song for the XT.
  4. Well i made it through the last 3 pages without getting too confused so im going to celebrate by posting something hardly relevant. Subaru got it right using a computer controlled clutchpack. Honda use a similar clutchpack with its own internal pump with a valve system that increases fluid pressure to the clutches as the speed differential between front and rear wheels increases. This means you get nasty FWD understeer as you plough into a corner, which gradually builds to AWD oversteer - and if you try to correct the slide it will do all kinds of gay things. Nissan and Volvo use EBD systems. A nice locked center diff and then a big computer that makes all the brakes do the work. Brilliant! No need for LSD's with this system. But once again the computers cant adjust very smoothly so you can get some wacky handling on loose surfaces. No why the hell didnt everyone just use a viscous coupling and call it a day?
  5. Very reliable i'd say....unless the oil pump on your EJ18 goes (even then it went for 200miles before exploding). I WOULD however like to point out the solid metal mechanics are VERY good, catastrophic failures are rare. Sensors malfunctioning is less rare but easily solved due to it being a Subaru. Oil leaks are abundant however and are part of the "Subaru" Experience. And right now i'd kill for a EG33 as the timing chain whine on my EZ30 is irritating me.
  6. Heres my 20cents: Final photo used with permission from CallyMat of ClubCalibra.com Hope one of them is usefull to ya
  7. Im going to use some physics here to explain it. When you were using your first method, the wheels are being accelerated at a relatively slow rate. Therefore the wheels with the least traction (the ones in the air) would start to spin before the wheels on the ground. When you tried the launch method, the wheels have a good few horsepower spinning them up to speed much quicker. This creates a large difference in the rotational inertias of the wheels. So because of the way your differentials work - whichever wheel needs the least torque to move will spin first. In your first method it was the wheel in the air. With the second method the wheels in the air need more torque to accelerate to speed than the wheels on the ground need to move the car. Therefore the car moves....untill the wheels in the air hit the required speed and no longer have a rotational acceleration inertia. Or you just heated up the rear diff enough to get it working....
  8. Thanks for the idea porcupine, but as i said - i can see the holder you mention but on my car its blanked off. Any other people out there with '02s or later?
  9. Hey guys, almost got a flatty on my '02 Legacy last night. I managed to make it to a gas station and air up but it got me thinking - What if i needed to use the space saver? I had a good look around and couldnt find ANYTHING on the FWD fuse on an '02 or later. It seems in the owners manual (deciphered using my pig japanese and by reading the pictures) there is a slot for the fuse in the engine bays fuse holder on the GT models. On my car the slot is blanked off. However my cars auto looks slightly different and drives VERY different to the 4AT in my friends '02 GT. Does anyone here know if there IS a need for the FWD fuse, or will the car just adjust and compensate for it? P.S Already know its gotta go on the front due to LSD on the rear.
  10. I realise its not an Impreza but hey you look like you could use a reply. Towed EJ20 Legacy with EJ18 Legacy 5spd, on an unbraked trailer. Not Safe. Needed a new pair of daks after that one. Oh and towed a 400kg Trailer (unbraked again) with an EJ18 '94 Auto Impreza. Handled very well, however braking power was shocking. From my limited towing experience ive learned braking is always the biggest issue, unless your using waimaks' trailer in which case it will sway around and try to kill you.
  11. I think only the XT/XT6 came equipped with the flux capacitor so you should be safe. Just check fuses and links, if i had a dollar for everytime i'd done this...well...i could buy a pie, and maybe a can of coke.
  12. Had a play around in an '08 Impreza today. Its bloody nice and i take back anything negative i may have said about the car - despite it STILL looking like a Civic. Two thumbs up from the Keltik subaru masher. I'd buy one.
  13. Like hesitation? A bit of piston slap mebbe?.... OOH OOH it Didnt have torque bind? I joke...but seriously, almost exactly the same things happened with the Skyline, Civic, Accord (not so much), Corolla. These jap car companies are just changing the styles to the new level and i respect that. ...unlike Porsche who will keep facelifting the 911 till doomsday
  14. You've gotta define quirky, because at the moment im reading it as... Quirky: Not Quirky: Oops wait thats a Hoda Civic... Ah Thats better! Quirky isnt always better....some people want a car that looks like everyone elses. Above all else i pray to god the '08 has the same sorta build quality and performance we like on our soobies. I also pray it accomplishes this whilst using just a little bit less gas than its predecessor.
  15. Apologies there Manarius, wasnt meaning to pick on you specifically. Anyways! Yes the GT30 is significant, shes got the EZ30 3liter flat 6 in her with variable valve timing and chain driven cams. Performance isnt anywhere near the GT with the EJ20TT (EJ20H?) but gas consumption is much much better. Online info indicates about 220hp @ 6000rpm. Theres heaps of techy stuff on this site http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/subaru/legacy_wagon/2002_5/28485/ As i test drove an '02 GT and an '02 GT30, the 30 had a much smoother shift and what seemed like a more intelligent box. The 30 also picked up smoother and handled better. Ill throw some pics on when i get home from work tonight. :-p How does it compare to the USDM Legacy with the same motor?
  16. Ello', im back to the USMB again, now with another Legacy. My nice german Calibra was quick as hell but the electrics were crap, the interior sucked and parts were IMPOSSIBLE to get. So here i am, this time with a '02 Legacy GT30 Bilstein model. EZ30 FTW! Im hoping to god i dont have to do anything mechanical on this one, well the dealer warrantys got me covered for 4 years. Yes car payments do indeed suck, but its worth it. Getting up each morning and seeing this sexy lil beast outside my window, and the leather seats are so much nicer on the hind :-p My one question for the week is; The little navigation screen thingy is in japanese and shows me driving up the pacific ocean.....how do i fix this? Can it even be fixed? Cheers KELTIK P.S For Manarius and anyone else, 8 months have gone by since my last little incident and i havnt received one traffic infringement. My driving style has changed to cruzy and laid back (which suits this new car a treat!). Mainly the change happened from having my head slammed into a steering wheel, but moving out and living on my own contributed as i cant afford tyres now, or the gas to burn them with. PPS. Yes its fully insured.
  17. The last post. Many Thanks to the awesome team at USMB. This board has helped me fix heaps of problems with my Subaru, it truly is an awesome resource. Anyways i was offered a new car for an almost unbeleivable price so i took it. Me legacy was a great car to thrash around in, but it just wasnt worth the hassle of repairing again, so i have passed it on to a new owner who will hopefully ressurect it. Anyways the legacy has been replaced with an Opel/Holden/Vauxhall. So its time for me to start learning to speak GM. Thanks for all your help with this post guys, ill be back when a nice EA series coupe shows up lol. Im going to kick around www.clubcalibra.com for a while and learn about this thing. Cheers Ben
  18. Off to pick up a Holden Calibra today, this will be my new daily driver. I havnt decided the Subarus fate yet... Anyhoo heres a carnage pic 'cos i know you guys love em. The engine will probably be stripped so i can figure out what killed it. Im assuming boxers arent supposed to throw rods at 3000rpm
  19. Lol new zealands still down here by Australia. And sorry to rain on the parade but - My EJ18 threw a rod at 3000rpm crusing home this afternoon. Oil light started flickering and rather than be stuck on a back road with no way of calling for help i soldiered on to the main highway. Just after hitting state highway 2, the number 4 con rod made a dramatic dash for freedom. I drove another mile with smoke, oil and coolant spraying everywhere to the nearest gas station then called a mate to tow me home. Lesson learned : If your lifters are making noise, and theres plenty of oil in your engine - chances are the oil pump is about to go. Going to look at buying a new car tomorrow. This legacy was awesome fun but for the price of a new used engine i can pick up some new wheels to get me to work next week. Will keep ya all updated! :-\
  20. Hey guys, havnt posted here in a while but ive been reading around. Anyways my Legacy needs a new engine. The EJ18 in it has developed some wicked noisy lifters and is squirting oil out of more holes than i can count. I could fix all the problems with it, but it really is cheaper and more fun to slam a new motor into the car. I have 2 engines available and i dont know which one to stick in. Both are the same value and both are about the same on fuel economy. Parts for both are also readily available here. So which would you want and why? EJ20............................................EJ22 history known...............................unknown and has sat for 6 months Quad cam 16v..............................DOHC 16v MPFI...........................................MPFI Coil on plug ignition.......................single coil ignition 148hp @ 6600.............................136hp @ 5500 128lbft @ 5200............................138lbft @ 4200 7500max rpm...............................6500max rpm EJ20 donor will need re-wiring as the motor is coming out of an auto transmission car. EJ22 donor car comes with DUAL RANGE transmission.
  21. A belt here is over $100, each idler is $30 so running without t-belt covers has much higher risks. If my covers were on, every component on the front of the engine could be about to fall off and i wouldnt know. Without them i can take a quick look and know instantly if my water pumps leaking or an idler is seizing up. Thats the benefit i get from running without them. All those shiny spinning parts make the car just a bit more interesting too. And thats my .02
  22. Having a Sedan i dont have this problem much, i found a 2gal gas can fits perfect beside by subwoofer box and is held in place with a ratchet tie down. And i dont think ive ever seen a vented gas can for sale here, theyre all the red plastic ones that bulge a bit in the heat. Edit: Forgot to add my main point, i find leaving the can outside the car while i walk in to pay at the gas station lets any spilled fuel evaporate off the can, so when i stick it in the car theres even less of a smell. But i live in a small town where the odds of someone stealing my can whilst unattended are low.
