  1. I think this guy wins for style , sure its not a subaru but i guess he might have put an ea in it? KELTIK
  2. Can we get a vid of the trial run? I recently read an article on how stock rover and honda engines are good to 9,000rpm balanced. Im assuming the same goes for a soob. KELTIK
  3. Hmm from the sounds of it my guess is now either O2 Sensor or IAC motor. In my old mans rover the engine would take a cople extra seconds to return to idle and would surge a second after touching the throttle - new sensor fixed that problem. As for the IAC this is definately the problem on my wagon, hooked up a vacuum gauge last night and can see it moving without touching the gas. Could be worth a try for you? KELTIK
  4. Well that vacuum hose would explain your high idle, dont know what goes onto that one tho...:-\ KELTIK
  5. I have the exact same problem. I've found when engine braking down long hills, sometimes the rpm will fluctuate +-300rpm (Auto trans) at a rather rapid rate - maybe twice per second. I know for a fact its the IAC doing something weird (can hear the change in exhaust note out the window) i just cant figure out why....Stupid Honda. Is it possible your problem is being caused by the same thing? KELTIK
  6. LOL!! Its an imp wannabe.......its really a honda but dont tell anyone. Next weeks pay check is going on some big rump roast tires. KELTIK
  7. Well its here - the video is finally done. After 3 weekends of explorin trails we had enough footage to make a small vid out of it. So heres the link; http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7752180336043501188&q=subaru+brat If ya dont like it - go out there and make a better one, seriously. ps. samo - don't forget to turn off those speakers. KELTIK
  8. I'll trade you my soul for that thing. Nice score.
  9. Uh doesnt the camshaft spin at half the speed of the crank? Not important but i've got to contribute something. KELTIK
  10. Same problem on my wagon, one of my front rotors is warped. Theres little if any vibration in the brake pedal. My cars been like this for a few months now so im just gonna ride it out till my next brake pad change. I only feel the vibration braking from above 60mph though. KELTIK
  11. Trees need love too. :-p Sounds like you've got a heap of stuff unplugged....how much more can there be!? KELTIK
  12. Was about to say "Nokia make tires!?". I use Goodyear Eagle NCT's and theyve performed really well, pretty quiet and perform well in the wet. Also they're standing up to my thrashings really well and are still good after 30,000kms of hard use. KELTIK
  13. I'd probably agree with the thermostat idea, maybe having the heater on full bore hotness may help? I've seized a rover K16 engine from a bhg but it took a good few weeks of driving. Good luck! KELTIK
  14. Got any bigger pics? It would really help. KELTIK
  15. The neutral/park switch thingy on my wagon is going and ive gotta give the shifter a couple of whacks before the car will turn over. If not i would go with checking the starter connections, or maybe a sticking solenoid? KELTIK
  16. Ok so despite the Subaru badge i think i'll put this down to some sick twisted practical joke. Heres another choice suby - now wouldnt you love to cram a EJ25 in this thing! It would be like the JuSTI but weirder. If thats the Brat's successor then im ashamed. KELTIK
  17. Just had a thought - what about a trashwagon-esque paint job. I like the color combo and im sure it'd grab some attention. Then again that might anger the true trashwagoneers. Still, orange and black is a nice combination to consider. KELTIK
  18. Well no autozones here, theres only Repco and theyre ricer only as far as i can tell. I've had a good look around and cant find a OBDII reader tool thingy. Your best bet is just to take it into the local dealership and beg. KELTIK
  19. Wow another kiwi! could it just be the idle dropping for a second with cooling fans kicking in? KELTIK
  20. My wagon does this frequently but i suspect its the Auto box equalising things to stop the torque converter stalling. If yours is a manual i'd still be interested in hearing a pro opinion. KELTIK
  21. Found an 86 XT Turbo that had been sitting on solid ground for 4 years. Popped in a new battery and drove it home....Insanely lucky id say! Of course its not exactly problem free but it still runs. KELTIK
  22. lol i realise this info is sketchy as i have no links or proof - but some navy guy did a series of air filter tests on his mazda miata and found paper filters to be superior to any sports versions. He also found the air restriction from the filter itself was minimal and probably wouldnt cause a drastic change in performance. As for removing the intake silencer box - i've done it on my wagon (its a Honda) and i've no idea if performance is better, but it definatly sounds beefier. Also my mate (also in whakatane) owns a GT turbo, so yes they do exist. KELTIK
  23. If someone offered me a mint XT6 or even a Really nice EA81 wagon with 4WD and minimal rust - id have no worries selling the Orthia and pouring the surplus money into creating a beast. Older cars are less likely to get stolen IMO and insurance is a breeze with them. In a country where emissions aint' a problem, 4WD is a very handy thing to have and car parts/labor costs LOTS. Its just really nice to have a simple car you can work on yourself.
