  1. Wow dude you must live in a great country, a ignition coil for my Honda cost $260 fitted and the lil gearbox switch for the reversing lights on my Jimny cost $80!!!! To get yer springs compressed (including fitting) costs $500 and JY parts are the biggest rip off ever with a set of tail lights for the Honda costing $600 I'll be impressed if i can get the new shocks cheap and ill post a good old rant when the nice parts man tells me i need to remove an arm and a leg. KELTIK
  2. RLY DRTY wins it for me lol. i love the dual meaning and if it was only 6 characters id stick that one on the muddy XT KELTIK
  3. Well i couldnt find much info on this on the web so ill hand you guys the question. XT used to have the whole ride height thing going on - it doesnt work anymore and looks as if the struts have been changed all round. The Front springs/shocks are coping fine but the back ones are really high and bounce like hell. As some of you know this car has to pass an inspection in 2 days and i really have to get these back shocks sorted out, i dont know what type they are so heres a little pic for you to have a go identifying them. Can i get these refilled with oil or do i have to go get new ones? KELTIK

  5. lol Believe me theres plenty of Jap Crap Junk driving around here, we get all the rejected cars from the orient. Our problem is they are rather unfair on who they pass and who fails - as just about anyone can do a W.O.F check, if you fail you find someone dodgy who WILL pass you. Anyways ive rigged up a system that should get me a pass and the rusty door is within limits. KELTIK
  6. GOD DAMMIT!!! I cant find them so i need to fit new ones for my warrant of fitness inspection on wednesday. Anybody got any easy ideas? right now ive just got water squirting from one of the drain holes and it sort of splashes the window but i dont think thats good enough. KELTIK
  7. My XT has got them and they work great......still cant find the dam windshield squirters tho KELTIK
  8. OK so im guessing they are supposed to be pretty obvious.....knowing the XT we expected them to appear from some hidden compartment when you push the button. But as for them being obvious....i cant find them so i think ill assume this car has none. The troubling thing is i cant even see where they Should be. Am i blind, stupid or did the previous owner throw them away? :-\ KELTIK
  9. that just says it all.....GO NEW ZEALAND!! i wonder if he lives near by? KELTIK
  10. Well as you can see from my miniscule amount of posts - im no subaru expert but we ran twin weber cars on our 74' MGB and on my brothers Ford Capri and it made quite a difference in low end pick up. Youre on your own as far as gas mileage goes tho - it went downhill quite a bit for us. :-\ KELTIK
  11. If it worked, you would have a seriously mean sounding suby. Let us know how it goes if you try it . KELTIK
  12. Ok mike weve got the pipe coming from the water tank under the right wheel arch then it stops - and so far we cant see any sign of a sprayer like thing. so are they actually attached to the hood or the plastic bit at the bottom of the windshield? KELTIK
  13. OK cheers mate - we may be needing some new rear struts/shocks for the vortex.....the ones on there make driving above 100 very intense and bouncy. If youve got some nice ones that will fit drop me a pm! Right, back to polishing up those mags. KELTIK
  14. Well the nut is a nice shade of oxidised green and im gonna take a break on removing it for the minit. Ive burned my hand on the turbo enough times to learn my lesson and wait for it to cool off. If indeed it is a faulty sensor how much would you charge to stick it in a box to new zealand because im having severe problems finding parts over here. The general parts store/wreckers yard conversation goes; "yup im looking for a whatever for a 86' xt turbo" "a forrester xt?" "no the old weird looking ones" "holy s*** you have one of those? i didnt know there were any around these days!" and asking for a part for a ea82t doesnt go any better. KELTIK
  15. Cheers skip ill get right on that with a spanner. I can see me having some fun trying to undo this nut.... KELTIK
  16. OK i did the whole ecu code thing this morning and ive got a 12 (starter off) which was probably a good thing and a 33 which appears to be coolant sensor. Whats this coolant sensor sense? how much there is or how hot it is? The dasboard temp gauge appears to work very nicely starting off on the little C then making its way to the half mark (just as a temp sensor should). So whats going on here? do i need to be afraid? or be very afraid? Or do i just get out the black tape and make the ECS light someone elses problem? :-\ KELTIK
  17. And Heres the beasty XT TURBO!! woot:headbang: Waimaks on the left and me on right! - dont laugh.....one day youll have a son that looks that rugged And we got the whole car for $300NZD or about $200 USD and weve put in so far about 40 bucks for some injector cleaner and change of ownership papers. p.s dont drool on yer keyboard - its bad for it. KELTIK
  18. OK weve got it runing nicely and its sort of becoming reliable again. The injector cleaner is doing its thang and the stereo works again! Heres the long awaited pics, hope ya like them - if you dont....Tough:grin: Thats all Waimaks' Brat. Ill start another reply to keep things nice and tidy.
  19. Cheers Calebz, We just checked out all the 'lectrics and the ignition terminals are so nakkered were off to buy some new ones. The engine bump/tow starts perfectly but will crank for hours on my battery so were gonna go grab some new stuff and see if that sorts it out. Edit: Just stuck the new battery terminals on and now its starting great (well kinda)... KELTIK
  20. Im really starting to hate this!! We took the old vortex out for a boost today, and its developed a nasty habit of running fine then refusing to start again. Ive kicked it, sworn at it and tried rubbing its belly but nothing is working!!!!! I have sparks to all 4 cylinders and fuel coming out of the filter like thing when i hit the ignition. I must have compression cos it was running fine like 5 minits ago. It DID have too much oil in it (causing running problems) but ive corrected that and its still misbehaving for me. Me and Waimaks just came back from a nice drive where it ran fine and the turbo boosted fine and it didnt splutter or give any indication of an ill engine. Now it wont start - and its done this before (about 3 hours ago). KELTIK
  21. Right, All the coolant is staying where it should be. The oil level appears to be well above the full mark which is worrying :-\ and new plugs and leads are fitted . Im towing it home tonight now that myself and waimaks are the registered owners and its booked in for a Warrant of fitness (M.O.T if your a brit). All things considered id say its gonna be back on the road in a month for a total cost (car included) of $600 NZD!! Ill post a few choice pics tomorrow if the sun shines. Finally its great to see i can get help so easily on here, so heres another question; Im getting an idle speed of about 600-650rpm. It will idle fine but the book says 800 and thats not what im seeing. KELTIK
  22. YAY, New plugs and its running fine. I even got the original 1986 Users Manual for it!! And the original sales documents. Anyways its getting moved round to my workshop tomorrow and im hoping to have it back on the road in under a month. KELTIK
  23. Heya Hush, I've had exactly the same troubles with my ea82t Vortex. Sluggish and spluttering on half throttle at about 2500rpm. I Think my problem however is just ***t plugs. I Had te engine die on me but managed to bring it back to life by cleaning the plugs and turning it over at full throttle for a few secs. Im looking forward to seeing this one solved as im afraid my soob will go the same way. KELTIK
  24. Yup we got it running sweet! see my new thread "Advice on a Vortex" to follow keltik and waimaks epic journey through the echelons of subaru ownership.
  25. Hey people, i just got back from a little drive in the beastie, well i got towed back cos it cut out as i was pulling out from an intersection. Got it in the garage - checked the plugs and they were filthy. Cleaned them off - engine runs again. What i wanna know is; how come they fouled up? did i give it too much gas at a low rpm or were they just crappy from sitting too long? Anyone else had this problem? i really want to avoid it happening again :-\ Finally my alternator is stiff and the belt slips for a few seconds after starting, anyone got a good tip for freeing this other than buying a new one...
