  1. I have traction problems and still run a ea81 Built mind you but still and ea81 I think it has to do withe the rear suspension more than the front Myself my brat was very bad for picking the front end up when I first put the motor in I rebuilt the front end replacing every thing and used RX springs on the front struts it helped alittle but not much adding ea82 rear struts may fix the front end lift I haven't tried it yet but I am going too PS I have these problems with a ea81 thats putting 112 hp at the front wheels I would hate to know how bad it is with 160
  2. You can get your clutch rebuilt in Johnson City TN for $40 for a regular clutch disk and $80 for a high performance one
  3. The factory cable had a bar at the end I have one I'll try to get pics for you If I can find It It may be a few days (in texas right now on a job) I'll post them when I get back home
  4. I'm gald you like it. I'm just sorry I don't live closer so I can help More we need more old school soob guys in our area but all we have is V8 junky rednecks
  5. i don't know why you would but it should bolt right in may need the a different drive shaft thou
  6. GD I had the same problem on my brat when I ordered the switch I got the same one to I ended up going to the junkyard (Which my cousin owns ) and pulling switches out of every early Japanese import I could find and I ended up finding out that nissan 79-86 pickups share the same switch as ea81 soobs and you can still buy that switch new the only difference is the switches have one bolt ear but go in and work fine other nissan's or datsun's may use the same switch too aka 510s and Zcars
  7. they should be the same the only difference in the heads are that the valves are reversed
  8. I've owned a justy and it just doesn't comepair with the other subarus I own sure its a little easier on gas than a 80s GL wagon but is pretty much a geo metro they share alot of the same parts (junkyards interchange manual) and they don't hold up to much abuse at all not when comepaired to a normal subaru if I were driving a hour to hour and haft to work every day I would get a non turbo 3 door or XT 2wd swap in a ea81 2wd 5spd tranny (3.70 final drive with .725 high gear) you have more leg room get the same gas mileage more power and more reliable and if you go for the 3 door you can easily swap in an ea81 using the spfi the car already has a make the thing almost bulletpoof most people don't need 4wd everyday so you can keep the miles off that lifted brat or wagon and just use it for the snow
  9. When I did the 6 lug conversion to my lifted wagon I turned down the backs of the hubs on my lathe so the wheel studs would set straight in the hub but I also used a mill and indexing head to get the pattern right drilling your hubs by hand or with a drill press is a little risky its very easy to get the wholes off and the studs not seated correctly If I WAS GOING TO DO IT THAT WAY I WOULD USE A DRIFT CENTER PUNCH THAT FITS THE WHOLE IN THE WHEEL TIGHTLY IF YOUR OFF BY .010-.015 IT WILL OR CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS AND AFTER THE HOLES ARE DRILLED I WOULD BOLT THE HUB UPSIDE DOWN TO A LEVELED WORK BENCH AND CAREFULLY GRIND OR FILE LEVEL FLAT SPOTS ON THE HUD WHERE THE STUDS WOULD REST TO MAKE SURE THEY GO IN STRAIGHT Some time the bigger AT or MUD tires will never balance out it takes too much weight the bigger the tire the harder it is to balance aka 33-12.50s or 35-14.50s Most lifted trucks or jeeps have steering stabilizers installed on them because of this it just amounts to a shock connected to the tie rods
  10. Right there with you we need an east coast subaru show here or something its not just the west coast people who have cool soobs we got some too

  13. GD I do trip over them from time to time and they get in my way to
  14. But you all don't completely under stand I have a 163 acre farm in southwest VA with well over a 100 cars and trucks setting on it it was and still is the family farm which has passed to me 6 years ago. some of the cars are in my way and some aren't they are mostly from other family members which have parked/stored them there over the years and range from the 1920s-1990s the subarus are my contribution to the going family junkyard or so to speak most of which are rust buckets I am too attached to my 1st car etc I only have about 7 rust free 80s subarus thats counting the 81 I just bought if someday I start selling off old cars I'll let every one know but for now I might part out few of the rustiest ones this winter if anyone needs parts
  15. I'll keep you in mind as I think I'm going to buy it after all even if the wife throws a fit she want even now I have it anyway I'll just put it on the farm in the barn with the jeep if she does find out and blow up in a year or so I think it will be worth it anyway so what are you wanting I have a few ea81s in good shape with alittle rust but have some parts taken off of them
  16. I've got a stock carb come you can have for 20 bucks or so and it runs come and get it
  17. two years ago before I got layed off I had an 97 outback wagon I got for 1100 bucks (broke tbelt) and my wife didn't like it she said it used too much gas (auto) and wouldn't use it as her work car so she just drove the 04 forester so I drove it for 6 months or so got layed off and didn't need the 7 car insurance payment so she talked me into giving it away to her sister and selling the forester buying the baja and taking my wagons off the road and driving my brat so if I get this wagon in til I'm working full time again it will set And yes I know the wagon is the least valuable of the ea81 cars but with 61k and no rust It will someday
  18. GD I have 3 hatches right now one my wife daily drives and two parts cars they are all rusty the wifes hatch just does have any rot on the frame yet. I just don't like the hatchbacks that much cargo space of a wagon for hauling people and farm supplies is more importation that the gas mileage I have just found the hatchs to be too small for my use. We don't need anymore cars like I said if I get this wagon it will just be to save it from the crusher. its not rare or anything like the other wagons I keep as daily drivers which are a 89 touring wagon and a lifted 84 GL-10 wagon both of which have no rust and have been in my family for years the first post is fixed now sorry I was half asleep when I wrote it
  19. I have been offered a low mile 2wd GL-5 wagon for 200 bucks the owner wants it to go to a good home and says that he thinks I would give it one. its a ok wagon for the year no rust few dints you on the normal old persons car, but I already have 16 wagons ranging from 76-91 setting on my farm and thats not counting the new stuff or the brats, hatchs, sedans, couples, and FE. I already have rusting away. (setting because of the rust mostly) I just don't think I need this one and not really sure if I should get it for myself it being 2wd and all. I guess I could put it in one of the barns with the FE and willys jeep but, it will just sit a take up space. now that we have the BAJA we don't need anther daily driver and if I get it right now my wife would want to give it to her sister. which are having a hard time right now but I think its their fault and I don't owe them anther car. I have already gave them an 97 outback wagon which they lost to a title loan company and destroyed the(and send to the crusher) 84 wagon we sold them for almost nothing before that. I just don't want to see this one get rode hard and hang up wet trashed and then crushed. (thats what people do to old cars around here thats are not V8s stuiped rednecks)Its way to nice for that and I know I want to save this car but, I don't really have the time right now for it (if this job I found here in town doesn't pan out I'll be working on the road again and this time it will be in Mexico for three months) and the old man that has the car actually said he didn't want his grandson to get it he wants me to have it. thats why he is offering it to me so cheap.
  20. take vise grips and clamp off the return line that way the fuel pressure on the injector goes up and it just pops out (with the cover off that is) almost always works for me oh by the way I do this with the test plugs hooked up the green ones so the fuel pump will cycle just take the cover off clamp off the line plug the test con. up get in and turn it on thats all it takes
  21. like said every engine is different yours might need to be tighter but don't adjust them any tighter than the full expansion of the push rods and rocker arms which is around .006 +-.0005 at operating temp if you over tighten them you could burn you valves or valve seats
  22. they worked for me and it took alot trial and error but that was the best I could come up with much tighter and the expansion of the rocker arms and push rods will take up the full gap when it heats up that being said the push rods when I worked out the metal growth at operating temp. it was .003 at 250 degrees and the rocker arms was .0027 at the same temp
