  1. Well as I found out yesterday there is no real set time when it will fail to start. Hot or Cold it doesn't start. i am gonna try to get the starter replaced today.
  2. Damn dude....you said a lot of crap man! Geez. It has never happend while I was driving and it doesn't stall out. Sometimes gas, sometime coast. Foot on break. If it was the fuel filter why would it only happen sometimes? It has actually happened a couple times in the past but they were spread out more. The past few days it has been happening more and more frequently. Belts ok, fluids full, no smells or spots, defrost fine and no swamp either, lights, radio action! They both work. Everything is fine. I did forget to mention before that my CEL is on but I know its the knock sensor I just haven't fixed it yet. It came on but the car has done this a couple times before the CEL came on. It also has been on for a while before the car started to do this more frequently. Could that be it? I didn't think so at first. Don't really know the gas levels cuz I never thought to look when it happens. I do notice that when the engine is normal temp it does it and when it sits for like an hour it will work. Thanks.
  3. I hear ya man. I am trying to give you everything I know. I would like to get this fixed so I can get to work and back on monday without the fear of getting stranded. Hell I have been stuck home all day cuz I dont wanna get stranded. Me being a car idiot I assumed it was the starter myself. Is there anything else you would wanna know that I can give you an answer to to maybe help out some more in the diagnosis? I appreciate the help man. I truly do.
  4. yes. i do hear something clicking/turning on. not sure what it is though
  5. its got a little over 200k miles on it. not sure what engine, guess which ever comes with a 95 legacy. I don't know squat about cars so have no idea on how to check the obvious. I know that when it is running that it runs fine. The battery is fine and I know that the starter is getting power. I dont know the status of the spark plugs but I plan on changing them soon. When it doesnt start it doesnt do a thing. I can hear things happening under the hood. Fuel pump maybe? the dashboard lights come on, everything electrical works but the car doesnt do a thing..... hope this helps. Will try and provide what i can if ya ask. Remember I got no clue what im doing.
  6. Another observation I have made is it seems to not wanna start when it is warm/hot. Everytime it hasn't started it was run for a bit and the temp was where it should be. Usually after a drive home from work or to the store I went to yesterday. This afternoon it was directly in the sun and didn't start. After I typed my first post I went out to see if it would start and it did. It too a good 2 seconds before it started the first time but it has also been sitting in the shade now for a while so it wasn't as hot. Could this be the issue?
  7. Got some starting issues with my 95 Subie. It sometimes has some starting issues. The other night I came home from work. A little bit later, maybe 20 minutes or so my wife went to go out and get food and it wouldnt start. I went out to check it out and prolly messed around for a good 15 minutes trying to get it to start to no avail. Went back out maybe hour and a half, two hours later and it started right up. Next morning started no problem. After work i left to go get a mothers day gift. Got to the place no problem. Was in there maybe 10/15 minutes. When I came out it wouldn't start again. Had a friend come by and get me and went back hour and a half later and it started. Today I went out there not in the early morning but around noon time and it wouldn't start again. You guys think I need a new alternator? Is one I can get at autozone worth it? I kinda need to get this issue fixed by monday. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  8. Hey all. Still working on getting my beast into good shape for her 200,000 rollover. Want to change the plugs and wires and have read that OEM wires are the only way to go. Well I would like to get some and am not sure I am looking int he right places. Can anyone post a link to a site where I can buy them at a good price? All I have is this site. Are these OEM and a good price? http://www.subaruparts.com/catalog/?section=914 I have also read the NGK plugs are the way of the warrior. Are any of them good? I have seem quite a price range for their various types. What would you suggest? Is this a good one to get? http://www.autozone.com/R,APP53076/vehicleId,1991701/initialAction,partProductDetail/store,2332/partType,00033/shopping/partProductDetail.htm What other maintenance should I do? I don't know the complete history of the car but I do know the Water pump and Timing belt have been changed within the last 2 years. I have new Tranny fluid. New tires. Not sure what else I should look into. Any help would be appreciated.
  9. I just had to go the expensive route and paid the $800 to fix it. To me it is worth it as this car was free to me and was starting to cost me some in tires and breaks and whatnot. I just have to get some breaks and rotors and my car will be in much better shape!!!
  10. I will have to look into them. The rust is pretty bad though. It has eaten its way through the metal in a area and is working its way through around it. What would I wanna do with that? I need to get a picture.
  11. Hey guys. I wanna thank you all ahead of time for all the help that you have given me these past few months. I got a nice tax refund so I am going to do some repairs to the subie. I am getting the Tourqe Bind problem fixed along with the front end shaking issues. The one thing I was hoping to do myself was to fix some rust problem. I don't know if it is a common thing but I have seen it in the past on other subaru's I got a nice little rust colony expanding under the gas tank fill area. It seems to be on the crappy side of fixing. It has created a hole and i can see under bubbling paint that is has spread. How would one like myself go about fixing this issue? If you need pics I can try to get some later on.
  12. I don't have the options really to change stuff or to look and inspect my car. I am pretty bad when it comes to cars. I am just a computer tech really. So when you guys tell me to look at things or inspect things I am lost. I normally would need to take the car to someone to look at and that I cannot always do. I do appreciate your help and don't take this as any sort of attack but I need things said in a dumbed down way.
  13. $800 is a lot to dish out though for this fix.... I wish it was a lot more simple then this.
  14. No. Haven't hit anything like that recently. I guess my wife could have but I haven't. I am pretty sure there is that tourqe bind, but it will run me about $800 to fix I believe. The mechanic I was at showed me all that was involved in the binding.
  15. I hear ya. The thing is I don't think it has changed any since the axle was changed. He did note this to me when I picked up the car. Said it may be the a bent rim or something with the tires not being matched correctly or something like that. I just wanted to jump on here to see what anyone else thinks. The steering wheel going back and fourth when im driving slow doesn't really concern me as much as the heavily vibrating wheel when im breaking. Does that seem to sound like its the rotor? I believe they are as new as my breaks which were done in the spring...... I feel so hopeless with these cars. I just want something to run nice.
