EA82 bumper interchangability?
pheonix165 replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the short answer is no, because its not just the foam but the molded plastic bumper cover as well. if you wanted the bumper to appear to be more "flush" with the car you would have the replace the entire bumper -
86 Carbed 4WD GL:What Is It?
pheonix165 replied to Subarule's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
like they said. ditch it, ya wont miss it. on the bright side, keep in mind its been a while, i don't think the FI cars even have it. i had an 86 wgn a while ago, same thing was cracked. didn't even notice it was gone. -
ok, my dad got concerned and threw it up on rack. the alignment is out and the front trailing arm (i don't really know what to call it) is mildly bent but it looks like the bushing on the chassis side took the brunt of the impact. basically what he said is that the car is getting old and he's surprised that its lasted me this long. *sigh*
-
i'll get it up on stands on friday. for now the strut seems to be doing its job.
-
left strut is wheezing, bushings are old and in expected condition

please keep in mind i'm an aggressive driver... I was driving my car down my usual "test loop" basically on my way home. this road consists of several hills 70+deg turns and a couple of off camber turns. theres one section that has a couple of uphills fallowed by immediate downhill+turns. i happened to catch a bit of air (was doing about 65kph front suspension usually only goes to full droop without the tires leaving the ground) but when i landed the steering felt wrong. turning right the initial response is sharp but then the car feels like its hunting. turning left the response feels sluggish but it tracks true. stopping or braking with a turn the car feels to "dive" mildly on the right side. stopping or accelerating in a strait line no unusual input. Notes: struts and shocks were installed 6months ago by myself and my dad (subaru mechanic of 18 years) and subsequent alignment was made as i felt it was necessary. have only completed one rallyx since install of new suspension (brooklyn bash) imho not the hardest of events on a vehicle. inspection under the vehicle was unrevealing.

VIN Help Needed- What's in this car?
pheonix165 replied to silentfive's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
while its unlikely you'll find it. try looking for the build sheet. that will contain all manufacturers information on the factory side of assembly -
there were only two issues when i was delivering. the doors weren't quite big enough to get both the pizza and pop out of the car in a single maneuver, and mine started the burn oil really bad from all the starts and stops. plus' though: really good tips during the winter, infact there were actually curtain area's reserved for me to deliver if there was snow

A Day Wheelin'... W/Pic's
pheonix165 replied to markjw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
nice pictures but this thread should be in the off-road forum -
there are a few people on the board that run that size tire without issue. what i'm not sure about is the actual performance gains. perhaps someone can comment on that.... and yes tirerack has them but only two types competition and summer performance
-
don't worry it would take more then that to lift the front end of a subie
-
good laugh, good find

make sure you take pictures. i won't be doing any events this year (local or otherwise)

Don't use 4wd LO(or HI) on pavement!!
pheonix165 replied to Gloyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the worst part is that most people assume that because new subaru's are awd, all subaru's are awd. i had one guy ask me if my center diff was blown because i was spinning my front tires. *sigh*
