i paid 1500 for a one owner, full delership repaired, 200,000km. 6g usd thats pushing it, for that i could get an r32 skyline sedan (and i really want one of those)

there are a couple of bright sides if it is carbed, one being that a carburated car runs richer which actually means less chance of detonation (cars like the evo start running richer as you get close to the redline for just that reason). something else is that like any block you can tap it for oil feed lines however i'm not quite sure where the oil return line would go:confused: sorry bout that one. custom turbo's are easier then people think but a lot of problems can arise do to uncertain things like the condition of you existing ignition and especially the clutch. with another one of my cars i ran into so many problems that i had to update almost everything on the car and ran out of money so keep that in mind

welding rear diff question
pheonix165 replied to okanagansubman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
make sure you change your diff-fluid to something that's meant for a posi-trac or something like that. as mentioned before a welded diff makes for higher stress and the fluid inside a standard diff is actually less slippery then that made for a welded or other type of fixed rear-end. -
damn it, its the only one in the yard with the bar...its a little sloppy but with a little paint thought it mighta worked, oh well i will just have to keep trying
-
here's the deal, at my local junk yard i found a gl (don't know what year four sealed beam headlights though) in any case it has a bush bar on it, it says subaru on it along with another "brand" name don't remember what thought. two questions...first what this actually oe? and second will this bush bar from an earlier car fit my 87 gl?
-
just as it says...how many of you race? rally, autox (solo2), tsd, whatever turns your crank... i myself autox...some of you may have seen my thread where i had my ea82 sedan out for the first time and while abusing my transfer case had allot of good fun

sorry if i'm hijacking but does anyone have pictures of this being done or at least a parts diagram

My Mint 84 Touring Wagon
pheonix165 replied to suburpy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
would that bush-bar work on an 87 ea82 sedan, there's a car that looks just like yours at a wrecker and i want a bar for my car (don't joke about the rhyming) -
heheh, i undercoat for a living 2-3 coats of that will make even a dump truck quieter
-
oh yeah, i forgot to mention i'm running 187/70/13r so its not like i'll be over stressing anything anyways...its snowing outside i think i should get ready for work early so i have time to play while this lasts, damn west coast weather always melting my fun
-
my driving is the week point, in the last run...an 03 wrx took top time at 48.7sec while i was running a mear 59.09. the laughable part is my buddies street prepared (its a class) 2.5 rs with a track suggested 165hp/atw was only 4 seconds ahead. after only 6 runs i was already faster then a 1.6 miata and a 5.0 mustang, well the miata would have been behind me if i hadn't taken out that damn cone
-
cool, exactly what i wanted to hear:burnout:
-
with the type of competitive driving i've been doing if i left it in fd i get excessive wheel spin which actual cost me almost 2sec my last time out so i left it in 4wd and with the expectation of lost traction through turns i tried not to think about what it was doing to my car
-
dammit that means i could have used 4low for the autox thanks for the responses guys, i like the ride height of the car but body role is going to get me noxious after a couple of races
-
i'm currently using my 87 gl sedan for autox and maybe one day hope to race it in dirt rally or the sort... my question is how fast can you go in 4low? i have a 5 speed and the manual says that the low transfer case is only 1.56 or something of the sort.

okay so here's the deal, i have a nissan pulsar/exa that i used for a daily for about three months when i decided to get some work done to the car...still not done with the vmsc winter series almost over i decided it was time to dust off my helmet (actually i had to borrow one) and get out, its been almost 5 years since i was last out to an autox event but i was dieing for a track day. with my nx out of commission for the time being i took my dear (72hp) gl out for the day... overall i was in last place finishing only a second ahead of a 1600cc miata and finishing last in class by about 2 seconds behind the class leader, 86 gti. best street car time was by a street prepped subaru wrx at 48sec and best overall time was by an sae car with 46 sec. miata taking last place at just under 60sec. i know its bad for the car but i locked it in 4wd and gave her hell topping 7000rpm before lifting off, then breaking (needed a little more gear and didn't want to shift right before a corner). i'm thinking that if i used 4low i might have been able to use third giving me the extra gearing and torque i needed to improve my time but that wining at 60kph+ has got to be a bad sound (not that i should have been using 4wd in the first place) anyways had lots of fun and wish i had pictures to post but apparently finishing at the back of the pack, even if it was ahead of a miata, didn't seem to warrant anyone's attention. ps my car is bone stalk including the problematic carb and i think i might have been able to pick up a second or two with better driving

pheonix165 replied to pheonix165's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i had to do it i swear, a prick was sitting in his 93 v6 altima and when i left the like i took it to 3500rpm and shifted...when i looked over there he was nosing up on me, i could hear he was working his engine so in second i hit the secondary (ooooooww), took it to 6500rpm and dropped into third. the tires chirped and when i looked down i saw i was doing 85kph in a 60 zone, i was done (hehehe and so was he) feel the power of my thundering 72hp ps if i see on more person quoting "who the hell shifts at 4000rpm" i'm gunna be pissed -

wholly crap you guys, i started this thread last night and within 15min there was already 7 responses. then when i got home after work today 3 pages...you guys are ossome. okay so the oil pressure think makes sense, i got the gage and you know what i actually look at it. right now i am running 100% stalk on 87octain. i actually do feel better about revving it higher now... buy the way the old lady i bought the car from said she shifted it at 3500rpm constantly (made me feel really good :-\ ) next tank i'm gunna give the higher octane a shot -

wow, the more you know. really though i would hurt the engine driving it like that, my wife doesn't much care fore the way it...growls either -

pheonix165 replied to pheonix165's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
so no one cares about millage or engine longevity -
Okay i've only had my ea82 gl for a few weeks now and after 1500km i took a read though my owners manual (ya, i was surprised to see i had one too) anyways first think i noticed was the car is rated for 90 octane or higher...not a performance machine and yet needs the good gas, sure why not. then i was looking though for what Subaru calls ideal shift points; first to second gear 22kph second to third 45kph so my wife and i went for a drive and i tried it, WHO THE HELL SHIFTS AT 4000rpm ALL THE TIME!!! the manual repeats this a couple of times. for rapid acceleration it says to shift from first to second at 29kph and from second to third 55kph, 5 grand shifts does anybody really drive like this??? right now i drive like i drove my other cars, shifting between 2300-3000rpm for most conditions and i retain 33-37mph circumstantially. i know for a fact that i couldn't do that if i shifted a 4g i'm not even sure how long the engine would last like that
-
i was just thinking that if a post 90's loyal was fuel injected it might use a different type of sending unit for the gages...that's how is for some nissans anyway
