yeah, theres this bang or clunk noise that comes if you hold the rpms too high too long. the tell tail sign of the specific situation is the oil on the road behind you

sometimes you need to look at yourself and think "is it time for me to move on to a new stage in my life?"

i was totally willing to stay for an extra day (which would have been even better considering the 550km drive down) -

wont stay in four wheel drive
pheonix165 replied to half_dingo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
have you checked the switch itself. in some cases the tab that holds the switch can be a little worn preventing the switch from functioning properly. -
Any one have any pictures of lowered EA82's?
pheonix165 replied to flyjum's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i think that a thread very much like this one should be stickied. basically if we provide a thread for those that go up...let there be somewhere for the rest of us to go...well you get the idea ps thanks to a member on this board for directing me to the ebay "specials" that will be on my car after wcss9 -

wcss check list?
pheonix165 replied to pheonix165's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
thanks for the comments guys. it looks like i wont be needing to worry so much, it turns out it will be just me and a friend in the same car as apposed to the three cars that i was originally going to be taking. -
the difference, as near as i can tell, is in the technology. for example...my 86 has a denso (or something to that affect) distributor with a 6000rpm redline, while my 87 has a hitachi distributor with 6500rpm redline...one can assume that there is different ignition curves and as such rev limititions due to limited advance. and i'm sure someone will mention that the cams are different too, providing different power bands. the late 80's and early 90's provided a lot of different changes...i would say that these are just the first steps to the better things that came after.

Common power sucking culprits?
pheonix165 replied to MTSuby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
to check timing you unfortunately need a timing light, if you have one great...by the sounds of it though...you don't. to check the vacuum advance is easy. with the engine warm and running, remove the vacuum line from the distributor. if you hear a change in the idle its working, if you don't it isn't. -
Common power sucking culprits?
pheonix165 replied to MTSuby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it could be ignition timing as well, if its been a while since its been done...it could have retarded itself. and on that not it could verry likely be the distributor vacuum advance
