  1. Haven't found any yet, runs and drives just fine. I know it failed a bunch of emissions stuff, so maybe that was it, being from California and all.
  2. I'm right here, guys. Yes the 82 wagon is mine. It actually gotdelivered to Maine today. It may actually be one of the most rust free I have had, although a few minor spots here and there. It runs great and needs a few things, so stay tuned. And yes, Paul is correct, it is paint code 259 Cream Yellow, just like my 84 wagon! Surprise, I also bought the 81 wagon in Boise ID as well!
  3. Thank you, i actually used that one and made my own for now. If I can get an OEM set for spares, even better!
  4. Haha! Great to hear from you Sam. Yes, I'm still around. Back on the east coast, moved back in 2008. I get bit by the Subaru bug every couple of years. I finally found a decent wagon and I think I'll be holding on to this one! Thanks so much for the information. I will let you know how the search for bushings works out. I did make some in the mean time, but i figured if I can still get them, a spare set wouldn't hurt! Thanks again guys for the responses!
  5. Hello, I've read a few posts about fixing shifter slop on a 4 speed D/R transmission. I used the tap method to change the roll pin to a 3/8 bolt. Worked great, thank you. Before I put the trans back in my car (just swapped due to synchro probs with a junkyard unit), I wanted to tighten everything else up. I've seen multiple posts stating that the bushings are still available from the dealer. I am specifically looking for the bushings where the shfiter attaches to the shift mechanism and a bushing at the bottom where the bottom of the shift rod anchors and pivots. I called a few local dealers here in CT and they dont list any parts prior to 1989. Do you have any info on who I can call to get these parts? Part numbers? My car is a 81 GL wagon 4 speed D/R, trans is from an 84 (exact match) Any help would really be appreciated. Thank you. Chris Lantieri Hebron, CT
  6. Guys, I've been gone for a while, but now I'm back. May be getting bit by the Subaru bug again. My question: Fuel pump for 1981 4WD Wagon 1) Where is it? Under the car near the rear tire or under the hood? 2) How many filters/vapor separators does it have and where are they? Thanks for the help. Chris
  7. I'll stick up for Andrew, but I live in NV now. He has been a little slow reponding sometimes in the past, but has always come through. PM or e-mail Moosens, we both know Andrew. Chris
  8. Way back when my 83 wagon did that too. I started just not using 3rd, sucked on hills, though. If you need a D/R 4 speed, let me know. I may be able to bring one out west for you in a few weeks. Chris
  9. Good point from alleyboy. He's right. Just do it right. The time spent in labor is not worth having to do it twice. Chris
  10. I bought a Subaru OEM clutch from subaruparts.com they shipped the wrong part twice, but it was like $150 and included a release bearing, pressure plate and clutch disk. Don't forget to have the flywheel resurfaced and you'll have no problems. I also replaced release bearing springs, like .10 each. Pulling the motor is the way to go, IMO. Good Luck, Chris
  11. Maybe you misunderstood me, I'm not talking about running without fluid. I'm asking "Why can't I tow the car with all 4 wheels on the ground?" Chris
  12. Hey NikFu, its in my sig. Its my 84 D/R wagon. Can someone explain to me why I have to disconnect the rear drivetrain from the transmission?? I don't want to know what happened to someone else, I want to know WHY. Isn't from the driveshaft back disconnected when the car is in 2WD?? I too have heard to remove the drieshaft or rear axles, but I'd like to know why? Isn't it like coasting down the road in 2WD?? Chris
  13. I was looking at some tow bars on e-bay to pull my Subaru across the country. One of them said you can only drive 45 MPH. That would suck. Anybody have experiences good or bad with them?? Chris
  14. No problem, Corky. Despite the rain, I've always wanted to travel to Washington/Oregon area. I currently work for a company that subcontracts for the phone company, primarily SBC and Qwest. I think Qwest may be up in that region where you are. May be travelling up that way. Also have heard that there is some cool MT biking up there. Chris
  15. Corky, I didn't mean to say I didn't appreciate the advice, I just didn't appreciate all the negativity. If a friend of mine was moving somewhere I didn't like, I probably wouldn't say something like "Why would you want to live there??" I do appreciate you're previous response, though. Chris
  16. Couple of things - 1) There are bad things anywhere you live. 2) I didn't ask anyone what it was like or how bad is it, I'm just trying to get a feel for who's close by, not what everyone thinks (thought I made that clear in my second post) 3) There are plenty of jobs in new construction, which is the field I am in. 4) Nice to know that some of you guys have a lousy attitude when your opinion was not even asked for. 5) There must be a reason it is the fastest growing city in the country. 6) Obviously I know its hot, I realize it is the desert. When you've grown up and lived in an area like CT and can't stand the cold winters, the heat sounds pretty good. 7) I have family that has already lived out there for 5 years and have not heard of the "sandblasting" effect. That is why everyone builds a huge house with a garage. Thanks to those of you who have nice things to say and have some input to the topic of "Trying to find out how many board members are close to that area". Chris
  17. Boy guys, thanks for the kind words. I thought people out west were friendlier than the snobs back east...maybe I should rephrase the post to I'm moving to LAS VEGAS, what do you think? I think its pretty cool. I've visited about 4 times in the last 3 years, everything is pretty new, clean, tons to do, lots of jobs, and the houses are about 1/2 of the cost that they are in CT. And the people for the most part are alot more friendly than back east. Hope to be able to meet some local subaru enthusiasts. Chris
  18. I'm moving to Las Vegas in 6 weeks. Trying to find out how many board members are close to that area. Anyone?? Chris
  19. I think Ed was looking for the one that's on e-bay right now. 83 Digital Dash Chris
  20. I think you could get either dash in those cars. I'm pretty sure the wiring and sending units are different, even on those cars. Thanks for stopping by, let me know about the motor. Chris
  21. Joe, I did the U-Joints in my wagon and it cleared up a similar noise. Also vibration on the highway went away. Get underneath and wiggle the driveshaft. There should be minimal to zero play in the U-Joints. I brought it somewhere, they said the joints were fine, I made them change 'em anyway and it fixed the problem. Maybe you need a D/R 4 speed with 76K LOL! Chris
  22. Good find and welcome to the board. Get a second opinion on your transmission problem. someone should at least tell you why its making the noise. Maybe you were just getting hosed with the first opinion?? There are plenty of great guys on that coast to help you too. Chris
