  1. Now that you mention it, they both look like EA81 radiators.
  2. Try these guys https://www.radiatorexpress.com/product.asp?part=1989+SUBARU+GL-10++-+1%2E8+liter+H4+RADIATOR+TURBO+REPLACEMENT+W%2F+STRAIGHT+OUTLET&part_id=40020&aaia_id=1268748
  3. I have the fsm for an '84 but don't know how to get it to you. It has all the info you are looking for. It is just to big to attach. Maybe I could Email it to you.
  4. I have seen the oil pump shaft fail once myself. The trans is really simple and reminds me of a Ford C4 reversed without the rear ( front? ) pump. The modulator can be adjusted via the screw you referenced to help tune your shift points.
  5. You're right, the links to the governor repair is dead. We have lost so much over the years as far as info. For highway use if it is well cared for it will probably last a while. For off road use I doubt it will hold up all that long although it might hold up for a while. Besides the governor and the oversize cooler be sure and adjust the 2-3 band correctly. I like the 3AT and personally have had good luck with them including running one behind a 2.2 in my Brat for the past year.
  6. Just out of curiosity, what was the temp when this happened? I had one the every time it got to about freezing it started choking out and I fought with it for 2 years until I figured out that the carb was icing at that temp. Check and see if your carb heat tube is installed and the vacuum switch is working correctly. Mine had exactly the same symptoms as yours but as soon as I fixed that it went away.
  7. You might have to replace your combination switch. It would explain both the low beam and the turn signal problems. The headlight could also be the relay.
  8. The hubs by themselves are not swapable. The fronts can be done by installing the legacy struts with loyale tophats and reaming the control arm to take the legacy ball joint. you then have to use a impreza 2 wheel drive axle to tie everything together. the rear has been done by swapping the complete suspension but that makes the tread width to wide. I'm sure someone who has done it will chime in shortly with more information.
  9. There is probably not enough material to oversize the bolts but it should be fairly easy to helicoil them. I don't know the size right off hand although I have it and have used them but not for the oil pump.
  10. Yes maybe. The ecm was the biggest problem. I do need a tank for it though.
  11. Send me a PM and let me know what you want.
  12. Check your horn fuse. If it is blown the ecu isn't getting power. I had a similar thing happen that pushed back the front bumper and pinched the horn wire on my '90 which caused the fuse to blow and it is the same one that powers the ecu.
  13. I've done this swap and it is fairly easy. The fuel injected motor wakes up the old car, even with a 3at.
  14. I just found this https://www.radiatorexpress.com/product.asp?part=1988+SUBARU+GL-10++-+1%2E8+liter+H4+RADIATOR+TURBO+REPLACEMENT+W%2F+STRAIGHT+OUTLET&part_id=40020&aaia_id=1268704
  15. I had exactly the same problem on my '88 Turbo sedan. It ran fine around town and anywhere that you stayed under 50 mph but on the highway it would overheat at anything over 50 mph, especially climbing hills such as I90 out of Vantage in the gorge. I checked and replace everything cooling related except the radiator because it seamed to flow well and had been replace by the previous owner in the last year.I still could not solve the problem until I realized that the new radiator was a single core. I installed a new 2 core and the problem went away. A good radiator shop might be able to recore yours to 2 core or do a search. A quick search found one here https://www.radiatorexpress.com/product.asp?part=1988+SUBARU+GL-10++-+1%2E8+liter+H4+RADIATOR+TURBO+REPLACEMENT+W%2F+STRAIGHT+OUTLET&part_id=40020&aaia_id=1268704
  16. The adapter plate is available from several vendors in the Subaru Products section in the main index including SJR. There are no real plans out there you just have to use a 1/2 inch piece of aluminum or steel. Read the EJ to EA swap guide.
  17. I had the same problem about 20 years ago when I first got my Brat. I changed head gasket to get it running and adjusted the valves and it would not run right. I went back to the manual and all it says is DO NOT ADJUST and it does not give a procedure it you move them. Even the Subaru dealer had no idea what to do except to set each cylinder at TDC adjust the valve till the pushrod drags then 3/4 of a turn further and lock it back down.
  18. It could be the rear wheel bearings, the drive shaft u-joints or even the differential bearings if it still has a vibration. As far as the EJ swap cost depends on how much you can do. If you can do all your own wiring, cut our your own adapter and weld up your own exhaust it is a fairly cheap swap. Each thing you have to purchase raises the cost. As far as what is required you need to read the EJ swap guide that is stickyed to the top of the section this post is in. It is what I used to do my swap.
  19. Your vibration that is coming from the rear could also be a bad bearing. The lock up problem could be driver error. Are you doing this on dry pavement? If you are it was never supposed to run like that and will lock up especially with mismatched tires, The Loyal (ea82) is not a full time 4 wheel drive. Putting it in 4X will also create a vibration. If you look at the top of the section you posted this in you will see a sticky that has most of the info you need to do the EJ swap.
  20. Sound like you need a new parts guy. My local parts guy suggested a hose for something else to replace the water pump bypass hose. I just had to cut it to length. A good parts guy will usually be able to suggest something that will work. Sometimes asking here on the board will get a replacement part that can be used.
  21. My Impreza has a high pitched whistle that shows up when I use Fram filters. For some reason they don't seal right. No other brand including Subaru does it and it only happens in my '07 not my '06.
  22. That should be an ideal setup. It is exactly what I made except I used an existing fusible link instead of a fuse. I knew the kit was available at Summit for GM cars. For future reference this can also be done with a Ford type starter relay also.
  23. + 1 on the relay. I did the relay mod 15 years ago without replacing the starter and am still using it through 3 engines (1.8, 1.8 OHC and 2.2 ). It works great and is easy.
