Gen1 Camber. A new idea?......
Subafreak replied to Dirk's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
But outbacks had taller struts to go with the blocks between the subframes. Without the struts it will just lower the engine and trans. -

Thanks all. The cover is very cool, probly the coolest thing about it considering it's brown, it's has no t-tops, and it's an auto. But it's all good, I just really need a truck now to move parts around and this will be perfect.

You know I'm gonna try. -
After a quick check over it turns out this thing is just about ready to go. Tight front end, good brakes, good fluids. Just need to address the running issue and fix the exaust leaks. It had a very rusty aftermarket catted y-pipe on it so I rebuilt a y-pipe that I had originally built for my 81 wagon and have had it sitting around 1996! I could have just bolted it right on but two years ago I cut the flanges off to use on my 74 sedan........go figure. :/ So I had to redo the front sections of pipe. Here it is almost finished. And a few more pics from a lower perspective. So that's what I got for now. Will update when I get around to getting to it.

Never thought I'd own a second gen anything again but it was in the rite place for the rite price and it ain't in to bad of shape so I grabbed it. Tried to drive it home about an hour away and it ran great for about 15 mins and then died right in the middle of a very busy town on Friday night. So after limping it on to a side street and the cops showing up and confiscating my "dealer plate" and having it towed to a local garage, I returned home empty handed. So come monday my lovely girlfreind went and rented a tow dolley and retrieved my little prize for me. All and all about $200 extra dollers added to the bill, not so fun. But now I have my little truck home and time to start looking it over. Worst rust spot is this pass side rocker panel. Still solid enough to fix easily thoe. Minimal typical rear wheel well rust. It did come with this sweet bed cover thoe, in really good shape!

74 DL sedan 1400 4speed to 1600 5speed swap

Alright not to let anyone think this project has been abandoned or anything. Here's an update. I had the halves cleaned up, I wanted them shiny new but after driving around with them in my trunk for two weeks I decided to just get them back together befor I lost anything. I also spent alot of time trying to find seals and bearing for it without alot of positive results. About the only things easily available were axle shaft seals and carrier bearings, since mostly everything looked fine anyway I just changed those and put it back together. I was also working on this during my down time at work and as ussual we get really busy when I want a little down time, but then again I only make money if I'm working so busy is good. Unfortunately I didn't have much time to take a few more pics of the reassembly proccess. But there it is all back together and ready to go in. I just gotta gather some shifter pieces for modifying the shifter set up and order a new clutch to put in. Oh and get this on the road so I have something else to drive for a day or two wile I do the conversion. -
Solid lifters in a hydraulic block? EA71
Subafreak replied to Dirk's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I suppose by comparing the size of the lifter hight and circumference you could decide if it would work. I think in the hydraulic motor it obviously has large oil feeds to fill the lifters and perhaps the added lubrication negated the need for the sleeves. Having extra lubrication to a solid lifter wouldnt seem to cause any negative affects. I would say as long as the lifters share the same dimensions it should be ok to do it. Now let's see if someone who has done it chimes in. -

Subafreak replied to Leeroy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
