  1. So 4 or 5 speed ends up the same way. I'm guessing it's gonna come down to what ever i can find the easiest.....cheapest.
  2. Well i didnt really get it into the show......but it gets alot of attention everywhere i go.
  3. Well i would like to stick with a top mount starter tranny so im not sure whats available in that style with a five speed. Ive go no problem making mounts and linkages to hook it up but definitly want to avoid having to hack up the body at all (Ie. cutting up the tranny tunnel) So i suppose i need to find out if the 5speed case will even fit.
  4. Wow that does look good! Did he just glue and streatch it on there?
  5. Well......um.......yeah i guess i kinda was. If Limerock park is your area? It was very last second decision to go once i was convinced the car would make it there. Dont worry you will get to see it soon, besides it's not all done yet.
  6. Sweet chart! So the gears from the EA81 trannies will go right into the older cases? Wow! Go Subaru! Now what about the 5 speeds? How do there ratios compare?
  7. IT RUNS!!!!!!! Got it just about all back together. Been driving it since last week amd took it for a 8hr trip across the state and back with no issues. Well one small issue....it desperatly needs a 5 speed to be efficient at driving around. 55mph just doesnt cut it on the highway anymore! Other than that only issues are the oil pump i had to use in the temporary motor makes no oil pressure at idle and the right front strut started leaking. Yes, pics to come soon....really.
  8. I know they dont fit directly but i thought with alittle work they could be made to fit?
  9. Well i,m just gonna toss the EA71 out of the BRAT in it for now. I know the motor runs......well it did five years ago when i parked it there. So i think i,lll just go with an EA71 permanatly but i need to find one in very good shape to do some work to. I will be using the dual port heads, since Sandy already paid to get them all tricked out at the machine shop! I just want it running this week but want to take my time getting the motor where i want it so this should work out well. Maybe even have it running this weekend!!!!
  10. Uh, problemo Paul! That other 1400 "dry sleave" block i got from you......is not a dry sleave block at all! AND!!!! There are bit's of bearing in the oil pan!!! I got two weekends left befor i wanted to drive this thing to Lime rock and originaly i didnt even want to mess with the motor!!!!! Help!!!!!!
  11. It looks amazing!! If it looks that good in peices i cant wait to see it together!!! God i wish i had the cash to get mine really painted right now! *envy*
  12. Ok. Got the engine out last weekend and it's definitly junk! One of the rod bearings is compleatly gone! I dont think they ever changed the oil in this thing. So i got a good dry sleave 1400 from Paul, just gotta swap the cam and the heads and drop it in. Most of the interior is back together. Not gonna have a chance to go crazy fixing all of it right now. Just cleaned it up, repaired the dash (expanding foam and plastic bumper repair + undercoating do work really well) and got a better drivers seat for it. Also scored some free rear shocks!!! Found them kicking around the shop, brand new and exactly what i needed. I belive they are a roughcountry shock. Will post the part number when im back under the car. Also got all the disk brakes in the car. The Loyal rear disks and gen 2 vented front disks. All new or rebuilt brakes stuff, new wheel bearings all around, new axles both sides. Getting real close!! Sorry will have more oics up when i can.
  13. Ok. This is what you have to cut off the trailing arm to clear the rear disks, and this is what it will look like after you do. This is what you need to do to it to restore its integrity. Add a bracket to hold the brake hose. And bam! Rear disks on your Gen 1. And one more of the 360. Just for fun.
  14. That is great! Exactly what i wanted to hear. Thanks for the answers, you have saved me a great deal of worry and time. May all your projects go well! You have now been blessed.
  15. Oh, and Paul, your off the hook for now. Taking Sandy to N.H. for the weekend. Ya know, one last hurah befor the kids get here.
  16. LOL, yes the 360 was thrown in just for fun, because it was there. Yeah i dont know about going much lower than that, there were no springs in the front in that picture. And the fenders on these stage one cars have a weird inverted flare on them that make them almost impossible to roll out, but i'll figure something out. The carbon fiber rocker panels? Yeah well there were a few rust holes and stuff on them that i didnt feel like bondoing up, plus someone gave me rolls of carbon fiber (wink wink). So i treated them with POR 15 and covered them with carbon fiber....why not! Ok so the other day i got the rear mostly together, painted the control arms and brakes and dropped the torsion bars one spline down. Now to anyone else that has dropped the rear, how many splines did you go? It seemed like a little went a long way on these? And since im running wide tires and do plan on having small people in the back from time to time i didnt want to go crazy with it. Also, anyone got a good number for a slightly shorter than stock rear shock for these? Advanced dont even list the stock one....in fact i dont think they list anything for a 74.
  17. Ok thats some good info and explains my confusion with the gen 2's having vented rotors. The last gen 2 i had was an 81 and i remember it being a upgrade when i swapped the front brakes from a Loyal onto it. This car originally had drum brakes all around so i swapped the front disks assemblies from a 78 Brat onto it and everything went on the same way, the ball joint was the same size, the strut hole was the same size, and the axles were the same except the shaft part was just a bit thicker from the 78. So if you say the rotors and caliper from a gen 2 will work on a gen 1 stage 2 then they should bolt right up to my 74 since i already have 78 spindles on it. Now i think it was your post i had originally read that had me wondering. Did you put the rotors and calipers on the gen 1 spindles and hubs before you decided to swap over to the gen 2 spindles? Because i would like to just keep the spindles and axles that i have and the gen 1 stage 1 control are set up is quite a bit different than later years. Thanks.
  18. There we go a bunch of random photos. Sorry i had more of a step by step thing going but my computer never seems to stay logged on enough to load all the photos rite. First one was just kinda messing around with how low i could go.....not that low. Second is of the adapted 90's Legacy master cylinder. And so on and so forth, time for dinner....
  19. You sir are correct, staying old schoolish on this one. So does anyone know the answer to my question or will i have to be the one to find out for everyone else?
