Well we ended up cutting the bottom off another set of struts and welding them to the bottom of the the outback struts. It's about 6 3/4" extension, and it will clear 33" no problem. In the future it will probly get some strut inserts and coil-overs anyway, but for now it works great. Also the Legacy/Loyal axle thing worked great. Just removed the inner cup from the Legacy alxe and put the Loyal cup in it's place..Perfect!!! Will try to get some pics of the current progress soon.

4:11 legacy diff, and probly a hybrid Loyal/legacy axle. So far we got the front diff and front suspension mounted and just about finnished. It's got a total of 6 1/2" subframe drop to fit it all.
-
Yeah what he said. No CV problems. The stubs will be a bit loaded and I'm curious to see how well the wheel bearings hold out but I'm hoping it's all a bit stronger that the Loyal peices, seems like I was putting a new wheel bearing in that thing every two months and that was with only 30"s. The only tricky part is gonna be finding wheels with enough offset to clear the 33"s against the struts, but I'm sure I can come up with something to make that work. Oh and pics will come.

Yeah, sweet. I just found a site with t-case gears that lower the high range to make 33"s turn like stock and eaither 6:1 or 8:1 low range! Perfect!
-
Yeah the center diff is welded solid so no problem there. It would be nice to have two low ranges but either way there are alot of options for the Sammy t-case in that area so it should work out fine.
-
Has anyone done it yet? I havn't found any mention of it yet. Me and my GF are building one right now. The plan is to have it rolling on 33"s and use a Sammy T-case with some 4.44 gears. Is this gonna be a ground braker or has someone beat us to it allready?

Auuuhhggg!!!!!! Why why WHY do so many things have to be on the same date? I have like 5 things going on that weekend that I'm already torn between. Sorry guys looks like I'm not gonna make it again:rolleyes:

Whats the deal on a Carlise meet this year? We getting together or what? If I'm just missing the thread someone please let me know.

Yeah, I'm gonna keep it Subaru style....maybe with modded XT6 bag suspension for that mini style. Will work on getting some progress pics.

So I took my 78 BRAT for it's final voyage the other night, and the rear main was leaking so bad on the exaust I seriously thought it was gonna catch fire on the exaust at the gas station So, I yanked the drivetrain out the next night and began the EJ22T swap. It's a bit tighter than expected but workable. I said I would be at Carlise with an EJ22T BRAT and I will be so........anyone got that link to the EJ22TT Aussi Gen I BRAT?

Ugly, but clean. That makes my Arizona BRAT look like my first 77 NorthEast BRAT.

So who has most of the tools we will need for the endeavour? I'll have my little tool case from my car and I will definitly borrow one of the electric impacts from work and a spare battery. Any speacialty tools I need to bring or should we be all set? BTW: I will take a sixer of anything from my favorite patriot (Sam Adams) -
driving your 1600 more now due to gas prices?
Subafreak replied to mcbrat's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Well mine seems very sensitive to angles and corners, big time floaty. Sometimes I will get in it and it reads emty, then I get down the road and it reads 1/2. Not the most accurate gauges -
Yeah but at least we will know where to find them all.

Subafreak replied to mcbrat's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Yeah, Ive been driving my 78 alot this week and weekend. I filled it up a few weeks ago and left it sitting at my house, this weekend I brought a plate home to so I could drive it again. Great gas mileage but but only room for two and I can't really thro the kids in the jump seats to go to the bus depo in the morning. -
