Amazing car the 918, but no longer in production. They made all 918 of them. -
In 9 years, the only thing that's threatened to leave me stranded was a burst heater hose. A fanbelt and spare ignition supplies, plus a bottle of oil and water and a few tools would be wise. Also, a multimeter and a length of wire. That reminds me, my ignition wiring failed once and I had to hotwire the car by hooking the ignition coil to the battery with said bit of wire. I've done a lot of mods over the years, but the best by far was installing a pair of heated leather seats from my mate's Ford Mondeo...

Yeah progress has been pretty slow on this one - life gets in the way. My valve stem seals are really bad now, I leave a cloud of smoke at the bottom of every hill. That gives me some motivation to get in with it. I'm angling the carbs backwards so I won't have to relocate the battery. Should look and sound pretty cool and hopefully have a bit more get up and go too. -

Just don't show them a line graph showing how the number of cars on the roads has been increasing but the number of road deaths has been decreasing... (I drive old cars and ride motorbikes so I'm certainly not saying don't buy an old car, but the safety benefit of new cars isn't something you can deny) -
upgraded headlight wiring

The yellow plug goes into the headlight socket nearest the battery, and the two green sockets plug into the headlights. The red wire goes to the battery +ve and the black wires go to the car chassis. -

I used this: http://www.dx.com/p/car-headlight-h4-plug-fog-light-socket-set-black-255413 It only does two headlights but the relays were big enough to handle splicing in two more sockets for the other bulbs. -

Ea81 ports and intake manifolds are 35mm. You can fit a larger manifold but the ports in the heads will still be 35mm. There are also three sharp right angle bends inside the heads to kill flow. This is why the 32/36 doesn't have a higher top speed than the standard Hitachi. As you know, the dgas is 2x38 and it's synchronous. It may feel like it has more power low down because it won't take much throttle opening to get full flow through the ports. If you tune it right, you should get the same fuel economy at cruising speed, but you'll have to be very gentle on the throttle to get good economy around town. Airflow through the venturis will be very low at low engine speed, which may cause poor fuel atomisation. This would cause a flat spot when you floor it unless you inject a good dose of fuel through the accelerator pump; another potential for poor stop/start economy. Personally I think it's too much carb for 35mms ports, the 32/36 flows enough for at least 120hp. I'm not going to say don't do it though. Nothing ventured, nothing gained etc. But if you find you get terrible economy around town, I'd suggest swapping the carb for a 32/36. -
I've dailied a gen 1 for most of the last 8 years. Most of the time it's ok but it doesn't have much power for overtaking when I get stuck behind a slow car on nz's winding hilly roads

Bike carbs. I got the second head welded up today and made a start on the manifold. I'll need to relocate the battery but other than that it should all fit in nicely. -

I recently fabricated a strut brace for mine, it made it a lot better in the corners. I'd love to airbag it so it could be low for daily use but higher for offroading. They handle pretty well for what they are -

NZ brats were assembled in Waitara, new Zealand until the plant closed in 87. They were painted with single stage Dulon acrylic lacquer. I think there were only two colors of gen1 here, carmine red and tan (I don't know the official name for that colour). They were called MPV back then, but now everyone calls them brumbies. In 1981 they got ea81 and 4sp dual range transmission- 2 replies

This may sound too obvious, but it's caught out more than a few: does it have fuel? I think the original carbs have a sight glass in the float bowl. Our you can pull off the air filter, look down the throat of the carb and pull on the throttle linkage. You should see some fuel getting squirted into the throat of the carb.

I'd be looking at the oil pump first. There's a bypass valve with a spring to regulate the pressure iirc, perhaps it's jammed or something. -

One sure fix would be to put a low pressure pump to send fuel to a surge tank in the engine bay, and relocate the efi pump to that. Google surge tank if you don't know what I'm talking about.
