  1. I have a 99 forester that is beginning to sag in the rear end and I was looking to replace the springs. Has anyone used any other springs on these struts? I am looking for a firmer ride with possibly a little more height and I didn't know what options I might have. I'm not sure if thee are any other vehicles that I might scavange some springs from at the JY that might work. Thanks
  2. Pull the extension housing, grind the notches off the hub that the clutches go on and I will bet you will be golden. I have done several of these and the fix was immediate. Got the fix right here on the board.
  3. How far away from Richmond va are you? I can do the job for you and you and the little lady can have a day trip. The job doesn't take all that long. I can do it far cheaper than a dealer. PM me if you are interested. Mike
  4. I know that the trans has only 117 k on it, but that is all I know. The car it is in hit a deer and then the husband decided he was going to fix it himself. In the process he left his wife and she didn't know what to do wht the car so it sat in her driveway until I bought it. Even if it did have any binding issues, I can fix that in short order, but I don't think we are going to have any issues. I can do the work in about three or so hours. Weekends are the best for me, but I am also off on Thursdays. If you want you can email me and we can go off the listing. mdjdc1@gmail.com thanks Mike
  5. I have checked ant there is no speed issue with the transmission interchange. Rest easy on this decision. Mike
  6. I have a 98 parts car that may have a good pipe on it. I can check it tomorrow and let you know. If I do hve one I can let you have it cheap and you can do the fix yourself.
  7. it is just a matter of taking the speed sensors off of your tranny and putting them on the new tranny. Not a big deal as they are external. Call me if you have any questions 804-393-0516 mike
  8. Thanks John, I agree. As long as the tranny comes out of a 2.5 car you are golden up to about 2000 model year. Let me know if you want to do this and we can figure out a time. mike
  9. What am I thinking. I have a 2.5 trans that only has 117k on it in a 98 outback parts car that I have right now. The car hit a deer and the lady didn't want to fix it so she sold the car to me. I can sell you the trans for 400 installed if you'd like. I can't believe that I forgot about the tranny. Let me know what you think Mike
  10. I'm not sure, but here is a car here in a local JY with a trans in it, but it is from a 2.2 so you would need the rear end to go with it. The JY usually charges around 150 for a tranny and another 45 for the rear end. It might be worth a trip down to get the trans and if your car is driveable we could do the swap while you are here. Weems a lot less expensive than what you are looking at right now. Mike
  11. My best friend is a full time mechanic and has been using everdrive for about a year now. They have been very good to him and replaced bad parts without question. Knowing this, I wouldn't hesitate using them for a part for my car. Where are you located, that will help one of us to help you.
  12. You can slip the belt up to three teeth without doing any damage. If you went further than that, you must be very careful. First, put the crank bolt in and see if you can get the crank to the timiing mark. Once you have it ther just take off the belt and unspring the cams and you will be safe. If you feel any resistance wait a moment to see if it is just compression in the cylinder. If I were you I would procede very carefully. you could also carefully take off the belt and then turn the cam in the opposite direction that you were going before until it is in the unsprung position. now the bvalves are closed and in no danger. Once you have all of the cams unsprung you can turn the motor and get the marks lined up. Good Luck
  13. By the way, they are easy to replace. You can do it yourself.
  14. I have a 98 forester parts car that I can pull one for you. Let me kow if I can help you out. Mike
  15. Does your car have a security system on it? If it does, then you need to deactivate it after attaching a new battery. I think you lucked out when you reconnected the battery the second time and had the key in the run position. That is a work around for those of us that do not have a remote. Glad you got it started.
  16. I am not sure what you might run into, but the trans is vacuum controlled, so you won't have any issues with shifting. The 4wd is electronic and I have the shifter, so you can wire it in to work on your car. Doesn't seem like it would be a difficult job.

  17. I could have understood a twist and e tape job. This was and actual solder job at differing points along the wires and then group taping them hoping the exposed wires wouldn't touch each other. It failed. Now each wire is individually insulated against the other and this won't happen again.
  18. But, I'm sure you don't tape up exposed wires right next to one another. What a bone headed thing to do. I'm glad we found it now and not when we are a few miles into the woods during hunting season.
  19. Got it fixed!!!! Some idiot tried to do something to the ignition wiring at some point and they wrapped the wires with electrical tape TOGETHER. I found the bulge in the harness and when I touched it we heard the fuel pump cycle. I unwrapped the bundle and found the bare wires all next to one alnother. Evidently when the car bucked, they touched and the engine meter fuse blew. i wrapped each wire independantly and replaced the fuse and VOILA the car is running again. I am continually amazed at what some guys will try to do to a car. Sme guys ahould have all of their wrenches taken away. Thanks for the pointers guys. Mike
  20. Rotor is tight and I am not sure if the fuel pump is pumping at this time. I was trying to diagnose on the side of the road. My best friend is trouble shooting it for me and i will let you know what we find.
  21. Yesterday, my daughter was driving her 92 loyale and she down shifted . The car bucked and then quit. We had to coast to the side of the road and then have it towed because it won't start now. I have no timing covers, so I checked for a jumped belt and they wer right on the money. It seems that there is no spark now. Any ideas or advice for trouble shooting this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike
