Hey guys: Is the tranny from a NA xt4 intercahngeable with a loyale. The one I'm looking at is in a 2wd xt and the car I have is a 2wd loyale. I assume that since they are both ea82's that the trannies should swap. Let me know if I'm wrong. My car has a blown tranny and the xt only has 71k on it. Thanks Mike

Fuel door replacement question/idea
mdjdc replied to El Toro's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Why don't you just go to a junk yard and get a new fuel door cable and replace it? I have two donor cars that I could get one from if you have trouble finding a JY with a sub in it. -
Put a wrench on the main crank bolt with a breaker bar on it set it against the fender (with Padding) and hit the starter. That should loosen the bolt and allow you to get the main pulley off. Good Luck

Thanks for the help guys. I may be getting won for cheap this week and I just wanted to get an idea of what I am picking up. Gotta see what kind of shape it is in and whether or not it is worth rebuilding. I will let you all know what happens

But did the brats all have a 4spd?
-
I have a friend that has found a Brat and wants to know if he can swap the tranny into his ea82 gl10 turbo. I told him that I thought the Brat came with a 4spd tranny, is that right? If it is a 5sps, will it move over to the ea82 car? Thanks Mike

What kind of lugnuts/washers do I need? (pug)

Your wheels are slightly different than mine. It does look like you need pug nuts. Sorry -

send me a picture of the lugnut surface so I can check them up against mine -
will a non turbo tranny fit turbo engine??
mdjdc replied to konrad/soo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I forgot, if you are changing from an auto tranny, you will need the pedal assembly, clutch cable and the driveshaft. -

You will need: The tranny and all of its mounting equipment The shifter assembly and the console Non turbo half shafts. 3.9 rear diff You may want to replace the clutch while you are in there. It is a days work, but worth the effort. Have fun Mike -

I have the same wheels and have been using stock lug nuts. I haven't had any problems. My understanding is that you need special nuts for the alloys, not the steelies. -

I have a cargo cover if anyone wants it. Make me an offer and PM me. We'll talk turkey -
I've purchased a couple of parts cars (and that is what this is) for 100.00 recently. One had no visible body damage, but was frame rotted. In my opinion you should offer 100.00 and negotiate up from there. I wouldn't pay more than 250.00 for a car that is currently not running.

Trashwagon stranded in Fincastle, VA
mdjdc replied to TimHansen's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I was just helping. I didn't realize his level of expertise. Still, if he can limp to Richmond I'll help anyway I can -
Sounds like an electrical problem. Possible with the mass airflow sensor. Get a wiring diagram and go from there Good luck as I hate wiring problems

Hey: Are you sure you blew a headgasket? It sounds to me like you lost your passenger side timing belt. Pull the cover and check it. It's unusual to lose compression in both cylinders at the same time, even with a blown HG. I'm in Richmond Va. and I'm sure I could watch the car for you if you could limp it here, or if the belt is bad we can fix it and you'll be on your way. If it is the engine I have a line on a car in Charlottesville that has a good running engine in it and we can get it for cheap. Only 113,000 miles on the engine. Call me and I'll see if I can lend you guys a hand Mike 804-393-0516 -
The axle cv joints are held together with an internal snap ring. You can keep the outer cup in the hub. Take the boot off and fish in the cup for the ring. Pry it out and the axle will just fall out along with the ball bearings. It is much simpler than taking the entire half shaft out and then driving the outer cup back in. Have fun.

Does that thing have an LSD? If so I'd be very interested in it.

DO NOT go by that post!!!! The two pumps are identical except for the height. Your pully will slip on over the pump and be held in place by the fan studs. Get both and return the one you don't need. You are only talking about a 45.00 front for the extra pump. If you don't have the money, then pull your pump and match it up against the new pump. Take it from someone who has been there, it isn't any fun to have the pump installed and then realize that it isn't the right height and has to come back off. Good Luck
-
More than likely you need the taller one. I've replaced many and never had to get the shorter one. You could pick up both and return the one you don't use. That could save you a potential trip to the parts store with the car apart. Good luck

need some guys with block experience/ideas
mdjdc replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You nee to think about why the bolt is leaking at the top of the engine. It sounds to me like yu have too high a crank case pressure, which would mean that you may have a bad cylinder. I recently installed an engine in my wifes car that I had completely resealed. Due to the better sealing and the fact that it had a bad cylinder,(Ididn't know it at the time) it startedd shooting oil out the dipstick. Before you go any further I recommend a compression test on all four cylinders. They need to be within 10 percent of one another. If not, then you will get blow by and if you decided to seal this bolt you will get a leak somewhere else. Good luck and I hope I'm wrong. -
If the case is the same, I want to swap the internals so that I can have a 3.9 lsd. It shouldn't be that difficult if the cases are the same.
-
Are the differentials the samr for the loyale, the legacy and the SVX, or are there differences? I can get an SVX lsd, but if they are different then I won't be able to seap the innards for the correct ratio Thanks

There is a small hose on the back of the throttle body and if that is cracked it will squirt coolant in the manner you describe the wetness. Check that hose and replace it. If this were my car, I would replace all of the hoses at the same time. Don't forget the heater bypass hose under the A/C compressor. it is a B==== to get at, but I would rather change it under controlled curcumstances than on the side of the road. There is also a small hose from the block to the thermostat housing and that has a tendency to crack. It too is a bear to get at, but worth replacing. I have been where you are. Good Luck
