Rear side window replacement on wagons?
mdjdc replied to SmashedGlass's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you can't find the window, let me know and I will pull one from my car and send it to you. It is already tinted too if that helps. My daughter got hit in the front end and the car is totalled. Lots of good stuff still on it though. -
Rear side window replacement on wagons?

The best wire for removing a window intact is 100lb test fishing wire. It is strong enough to do the job and thin enough to work with. Get it between the glass and the outside and then use two wooden dowels to pull it along with. You will not really have to do any sawing with it. I have removed alot of glass that way. It is fairly cheap too. Just don't know haw available it is in your area. If you need some, let me know and I can go to the local shop, get you some and ail it to you. If you need the window, or bung up the trim, let me know I have a parts car sitting at my friends shop and I can pull whatever you need Good luck -
I don't think anyone is trying to berate you. Just giving you info for the future. Personally, I think that you will be abel to get the motor up and running again. These are very robust engines. It is just going to take a little bit of work to fix the issues. Good Luck

engines do not like to sit idle. Moisture does bad things and you are seeing that now. You may want to try taking the valve covers off and inspecting the valve train and rockers. Spray some PB Blaster on the valves and let it soak. You may free up the valve. I am pretty sure that you are going to end up pulling the head on that side in order to fix the problem. It really isn't that hard to pull the heads off an ea82. You can even do that with the engine in the car. In my opinion, it is time to start tearing into the engine and see what you find. Let us know as you inspect and we can make suggestions as to how to procede. Good luck.

YOu may actually have a deropped valve seat. Pull the valve cover ans dee if you can locate the offending valve. If it is truel stuck, youmight be able to rap it with a hammer and get it loose. A dropped seat is going to require machine shop repairs. Good luck

Only one response? I know that thee are lots of guys out ther with a wealth of knowledge to give me some advice. Are the synchros hard to replace and does anyone have an exploded view of the tranny that I can use for repair purposes? Thanks

My daughter has a 91 loyale with a 5 spd D/R tranny in it. We had originally converted it from an automatic. She has started having problems getting it to go in and out of second gear, but all of the other gears are fine. Does anyone have any insight as to what I might be dealing witha and just how difficult it might be to fix? I have access to a ton of tools and a shop so the repair will be done by me, but I may need some guidance in the process. Thanks

Personally, I think it may be a good idea. So what if it doesn't work. It is worth a try to save the cost of an 80.00 part. I do agree though, that the real failure is due to corrosion at the mating surface. I have wire wheeled a few and gotten them back to functioning condition. I have also purchased a few off ebay for 20.00 or so and they are working just as well as the real expensive ones.

Help! Roll pin stuck ( and my punch, too)
mdjdc replied to man on the moon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There is a difference in lenght between the manual and auto transmisions. I believe the manual is a bit longer. You can probably take the harness off the tranny you have already, ( i assume that it is a single range) and make the sensors work. The harness off the JY car is going to require the entire thing be changed and that is a major job. Figure out which wires you need to splice and go from there if you can't use the sensors off of your old one. Really, all you need is the neutral safety switch and reverse switch and that shouldn't be that big a deal to swap over. Cheers and please use the right tools in the future. You could have saved yourself a bunch of time and trouble. A runch is a punch and a screw driver is for screws. -
If it's not Subaru, then what is it?

If you are having a hard time finding the parts just let me know and I can get them for you real fast and then ship them to you priority. I can usually get the parts the same day that I order them and then get them in the mail to you the next day. PM me if you want to talk. Mike -
Look at the bolt tabs. They are very different than yours. In order to use those rails, you will have to put them in upside down and I really dont think that that is goint to work. The ones I have look to be the same as yours. Let me get the measurements and if you want some pictures, send me your email and I can get that for you. Mike

Look on Craigs list for a nono running GL or Loyale. When my daughter totalled hers six weeks ago we found one about 100 miles away and went and got it. We swapped everythin from her car into it and now she is back to having a selectable four wheel drive 5 spd car, just like she wanted. I paid 350 for the car and then there was just labor for the swap over and we did that. I probably have a grand total of 500 in the new vehicle. Good Luck

That tray held the Subaru CD changer. Looks like someone took it out and left the tray. -

You are more than welcome to leave the car with me, but I surely doubt you could even be here by the weekend. I am in Va. LOL
