  1. Wierd problem but I happen to have a Magellan Road Mate 700 navigation unit and noticed the the compasses (nav. unit vs. mirror- 01 OBW-LL Bean) don't agree. When I was playing with the mirror control I noticed that when you keep the button depressed there is a "zone" option that you can change numbered 1 through 15 (I think). I assume the zone means what part of the Earth you are on.(?) Anybody had this problem?
  2. I appreciate your responses and know exactly what you are saying because I've used that strap a few times already. It was a few inches to the passenger side of mideline. But I can't find it now, so I assume that it must have folded under the seat the last time I closed it. I even used a flashlight between the cushion space and moved the seatbelts to both sides. So if there's a trick I don't know or if there's an alternative way to open the latch so that I can find the damn strap, I'd like to know. Thanks
  3. I can't find the tab that lifts the rear seat so that you can fold down the back rest to make a flat rear bed. It must have flipped foward the last time I used it. Anyway, is there any other way to get that seat to fold up so that I can find it for the next time? I know this is one of the dumber questions on the board but it is a pain.
  4. I have an 01' LL Bean. I saw that some of these vehicles came with a subwoofer under the seat. Is there a simple way to add one? Are they wired for them?
  5. Correct. When I was leaving the parking lot the brakes did not respond when approaching the street(which immediately caught my attention!). But the problem went away, as quickly as it came, the next time I applied the brakes so I thought it was my error or "just one of those things". It happened one other time, just as briefly, again as I now recall in retrospect, while being in a cold winter CT parking lot for 12 hours sor so. The car is garaged when at home so it all makes sense now.
  6. I have had the same exact problem with my '01 LL Bean OBW (new to me). It has happened twice after parked in very cold conditions in the parking lot after a long day. It freaked me out but went away quickly and I thought it must have been my imagination. But the '01 is not part of the recall!? I will follow this thread to see what the resolution is.
  7. Great, informative thread. I just bought an '01 LL Bean OBW. I noticed that some vehicles have a subwoofer as an option. Is it a good thought to add this and how would you install one?
  8. So if the milage is affected there's not much advantage in going down in octane, considering the other issues.
  9. Just a thought: Do you think that if the premium fuel provides better performance that, assuming that you don't gun the engine all the time, that would translate into better effeciency and slightly better gas milage enough to offset the extra cost?
  10. Does that mean a timing chain never (under normal circumstances) needs replacement? Why doesn't evryone use chains instead of belts?
  11. Sorry about the newbie questions. I bought an '01 LL Bean Outback (6 cyl.) with high miles (130k) from a used car dealer. I know from having other high milage cars that there are major tunes, like timing belts, pumps, tensioners, plugs, ect., that need to be done. Is there any way to tell if this was done? Also, is there any maintanance that needs tio be done to the auto tranny? What preventive measures should I be taking? Thanks
  12. I think the octane boosters sold at the PEP Boys type stores don't add much octane. I think I heard that the computer "well learn" theory once before. If I was sure it won't hurt the engine I'd be willing to lose some performance. I wish I could ask the previous owner what he (or she) used.
  13. I just bought a high milage 2001 High milage LL Bean. At my first fill up I noticed the message that they recommend premium fuel. It seems to run fine on regular. Do I need to use premium?
