  1. so if that Is a two inch lift with 235's how much lift is on your beater wheeler? that brown wagon looks alot taller than your wheeler.
  2. how well will a 255/60/15 tire fit under a subaru?
  3. yea I know, was kind of a poor showing for suburus. Those tractor tires were just digging to much on the snow to be useful. I wonder if maybe some 26" or 27" all terrains on 14 or 15" wheels might be better. still though it will probally be like a month before I head out again.
  4. sorry no pics.I forgot my camera.this weekend I had the choice of going skiing or going 4x4ing.I choose to go go wheeling.I wish I woulda went skiing.I had open diffs all around so with my tractor tires one tire would find traction then the other tire would dig a hole.Spent 3 hours triing to go about 100 yards. The one of my tires started leaking and fell of the bead.so I just backed onto the road put my road tires on and went home. Not to mention I was having alot of problems with bad wiring connectors.sometimes the damn thing wouldnt start, sometimes it didnt have any electricity at all, other times it would just crank and fire up like nothing was wrong. The plus side, I installed some lights on the roof, but they are not working either.A wire must come lose or something. so Im just gonna go get a pizza, drink some beer and call it a day. I HATE SNOW!!!!My subaru is unstoppable in mud,but snow.... That and I need to weld my diff.
  5. I am going wheeling today.Judging from some of the expected vehicles that are going up I willl truely be an underdog.Chevy blazer on 44" tires,Ford bronco on 38" tire a toyota on 36" and a bunch of smaller jeeps, sammies, and toyotas. then the little subaru with 26" tractor tires. I will get some pics, although I willl be back tomarrow (all nighter wheeling trip baby!) the chevy on 44" boggers has been featured in the top truck challange in fourwheeler magazine. heres a video of it. : http://www.fourwheeler.com/videos/6200438/four-wheeler-tv-dennis-menace-2004-top-truck-challenge-video/index.html the video doesnt show him doing great but it does show the truck.
  6. I messed with the choke a little bit then I reved it.Now it idles at 1000 RPM And it returns to 1000 RPM if I rev it.Musta been sticking somewhere. So I went and sprayed the linkages and stuff with a liberal amount of WD40...Hopefully that fixed it for good.
  7. Now I have another problem I would like to tackle. The wagon idles incredably high 2200-2500 RPM. I sprayed all of the vaccum lines and didnt get a change in idle at all, so I dont have a vaccum leak. The throttle cable is loose even has some freeplay so its not keeping the throttle open.I dunno what could be causing the high idle?
  8. I was able able it get it sorta round by shoving a pair of needle nose pliers into and and rotating them.It still leaks but now its a drop ever couple of seconds instead of a steady stream.
  9. Crap, One of the tubes going into the heater core on my 84 wagon seems to have gotten deformed so it is no longer round.I tried to straighten it out but no luck.I need someway to seal it up.Anybody have any suggestions? I was thinking maybe a bunch of RTV might seal it up but I don't know how it would hold up.I could always just go and bypass the heater core, but I am going wheeling tomarrow in the moutains so no heater would probally be really cold.Anyone have any ideas on how I can get it seal up again?
  10. I loved the subaru pushing the car up the hill, and the subaru offroading.so i guess that means that subarus are meant to go offroad. I would assume that anyway if subaru put offroading in one of there commercials
  11. yea I watched some of them.
  12. I wish I had a better pic of what it looked like before I messed with it.It really does look better than before.its just the "before" picture doesnt look that bad, because it only captures one corner. What you wouldnt have seen would have been the grill broken in two places-held hold with ductape, and the headlight surrounds were missing large "chunks". That and the car is my offroad car.eventually I will put a C channel bumper on it with an expanded metal "grill" that covers the lights, but I will still be able to replace them...
  13. evidently you all must live on flat ground. If i use my sissor jack for lifting the car up it bends because I live on a hill.
  14. When I bought my subaru its grill and headlight surrounds were broken. They were held on with ductape.Same with the bumper cover. So today I set out to see if I could make it look any better. I removed what was left of the headlight surrounds and the grill. Then I removed the bumper cover, and reattached the lights into the bumper.the corner lights on the bumper cover I put into the fenders. Then I spray painted the silver/rust that was hidden by the broken headlight surrounds black, with some paint I had around. At least now I am in no danger of my licence plate falling off now...I know its kinda like polishing a turd, but what can ya do? I dunno what do you think? before: http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n45/Uberoo/Subaru%20stuff/?action=view&current=newbaru2.jpg After: http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n45/Uberoo/Subaru%20stuff/?action=view&current=DSCF0013.jpg http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n45/Uberoo/Subaru%20stuff/?action=view&current=DSCF0014.jpg
  15. Subaru wheeling looks so different now a days. They had stock tires,no lift, and maybe a brush guard. Now we have super swampers on 15" rims with 6" of lift, welded diffs, and EJ engine swaps...
  16. If anyone knows ONAN diesel engines here is the model number DJBA-M5/1887T From looking at an online decoder I could this is what I have come up with so far: D Diesel J J series air cooled engine B 2 cylinder A ??? M ??? 5 3000 RPM max speed(may be 3000-3600 rpm because it specified how it generated power Possible speeds are 900-3600RPM) 18 18 KW= 24.14 HP 87 made in 1987??? T ???
  17. here is some pics of the beast.I have no idea what model it is or how much horsepower it has,but I will try to get it to work.I will remove the fan that is attached to that and figure out a way to mount a flywheel to that end then have an electric fan to cool it when stationary.I will also modify the exhaust to mate up with the subaru exhaust.Although just looking at it,it might be to tall to fit UNDER the hood...I suppose it could stick out 4-5" out of the hood and I wouldnt care...It might cool better.. PICS: http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n45/Uberoo/Subaru%20stuff/
  18. damn.I went and picked the engine up.it seems i was lied to it isnt a deutz, its an ONAN engine.looks to be rated at 18 HP instead of 35.which maybe a problem. It might make it unbearably slow to drive, but no telling with the massive torque off idle to get things rolling.it is to dark right now to take pictures.I will snap a couple and take a closer look at it tommarow. Its free because someone tried to change a glowplug and broke it.So I will need to pull the head and figure out the best way to remove the glow plug...
  19. I also have a problem with 4wd.When Im in 4lo and shift to reverse it bumps the 4wd selector into the "neutral" position.I can still get into reverse 4lo by making sure the 4wd lever goes into the 4lo spot. How can I adjust the linkage so that when shifting to reverse the 4wd will still be engaged?Car is an 84 gl wagon.
  20. I think it has a mechanical lift pump on the block.
  21. so the jack sucks for lifting the car but its great for bodywork.OK...
  22. and then when it gets dented you will start looking at it funny with a cutting torch/sawzall, etc.
  23. I have found a free deutz two cylinder air cooled diesel engine. It is mine just as soon as I can go and get it.Currently it is hooked up to a generator head but it isnt a fixed RPM engine. It has a cable throttle that can adjust it from 900-3000 RPM.So I was thinking of experimenting abit and putting it in my subaru offroad toy.Yea the engine only has about 35 HP and like 65 lbs torque(off idle baby). So it will most likely be a bit of downgrade, but it will be free to run so that will be worth it.That and the two cylinder diesel weighs 341 lbs.. But I do get rid of the cooling system and its problems. So right now the plan is to mate the engine to the subaru transaxle and put an electric fan where the radiator would normally be.Then have an expanded metal grill so that debris dont find there way into the fan. Then just have the fan on when vehicle speed is low.The diesel has a crank pully and mounts for an alternator so I will just blot the alternator on and have power for lights and stuff. That and find a vacuum pump driven of the crank to have power brakes. It should go about 50-55 flat out. Right now I am wondering about the fuel lines. The fuel pump for the engine is on the block/injection pump will I need to change out the fuel lines to the tank?
