heres some pics of the thing.I only got two because it was cold outside. http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n45/Uberoo/Subaru%20stuff/ newbaru1 and newbaru2. its an 84 subaru GL with 234,XXX on the clock.Has a blown clutch. Also has a roof rack and a rag stuffed in the gastank as a gascap!! where can you get 100 bucks a car?It used to be that high but now scrap prices around here are so low you might get $20, ditto for taking it to a junkyard.

I ended up finding $7. When I meant that I only had 43 bucks I was meaning my discreationary(SP) income. Yea my friend is kind of a wongleflute. But on the other hand I got a running and sorta driveable subaru with a clean title and 1/2 tank of gas for 50 bucks..

I am buying my friends 83-84 GL wagon.I offered him $25 because that is all a believe its worth. The car is fine maybe a bit beat up but other than needing a clutch its fine. And it has a clean title! My friend wants $50 out of it because he just put a new $60 fuel pump in the thing.I only have $43 in my name but he wont go down.He will sell it for 25 sans a fuel pump. What is a cheap alternative fuel pump for the carby?

Does the car need to be lifted to mount the radiator above the engine? Also how much did it cost to have the filler neck modified?Any thing else I should know?

I was thinking about building some 4' ATV ramps to help get unstuck.Nothing special there but I was planning on mounting them to the roof with some sort of quick disconnect system. How can I secure them to the roof so they don't bang around up there and then are fast and easy to get free?I imagine they would help alot.

darn the tires fell though.also it turns out the guy qouted the tire size wrong they are actually close to 36-38" way to big to put on a subaru...
-
so with the tubes hows the camber?
-
I dont like the idea of the tube to lift the struts.it looks like they would punch though, especially the way I drive-which may include some air time:grin:

super swampers are nice but are out of price range any new tire is...

Whats a practical tire size for snow running?I have a line on some rear tires of an old combine. They are about 30" tall. They have a grass/turf/non skid tread pattern which is basically a huge all terrain with 1" tread depth.they are about 16" wide.Talk about floatation. And they would be free.I would probally run them at about 10-12 psi to increase floatation and to lower the overall height of the tires... so how would a stock EA81 deal with those tires over mild hills?Nothing real technical just snow... also how much would I have to cut out to make those fit...
-
I already have one set that I change to when I go offroading. Thanks for the sugestion I am thinking of buying a tire groover so the tire doesnt need to be agressive.just wide.
-
I wish I was nearby.I would drag that car out.makes the enviros happy.

When ever I can get around to picking up a free 84 subaru wagon that needs work I will need to think about offroad tires. I have a set of 6.00X14 R1 tractor tires that work fantastic, except in the snow.In mud they go anywhere, but in snow they very quickly sink in and the car high centers. those tires are 6-7" wide. I am looking for a street tire size that is about 26" tall and and wide as possible for some floatation. rim size of 14-15".Thanks.

whats with the bottle?
-
run a couple of tubes from the rear of the "cab" to the fenderwells to keep the structual integrity. sort of like a rollbar for trucks, except weld it to the roof.
-
so then it should be able to clear 33"s then?was that frame lifted any to start with?

If I was to put a subaru or any other unibody car on a solid axle toyota frame,How much would that lift said subaru/unibody? With the stock tires on the toyota running gear. I have access to a toyota 4x4 solid axle rolling chassie. So just wondering...

How much disassembly is required

Thank you nipper for your intelligent and thought provoking insight on the inner workings of a Dual Range 4x4 transmission.I clicked on the thread to see if someone had answered my question, unfortunately no it seems. Does the rear tailhousing unbolt to expose the diff? or is it more of a case of splitting the transmission case and just about doing a rebuild?I'm asking right now because I don't have a subaru right now to look at. -

I would like to know because I might know a slightly redneck way of having a limited slip... -
to access the differential in a EA81 DR 4wd transmission?
-
What your goal in rattlecanning? do you just need some rust covered?is it a hunting/offroad rig?etc?
-
i suppose i could use the front clip along with the windshield and the floor pan.then just some tubeing...
