how far do you need to tow it?If under 5 miles it should be fine with a dolly as long as its in Front wheel drive.
-
I tried with a set of M10X1.25 bolts that were 1 9/16" long. They were almost the exact height of the 1" ASV spacer and the mounting ear for the exhaust. So that means if it needs to thread into the head at least 1/2" they need to be 2" long.No wonder studs keep pulling out.less than 3/8" of fine thread in the heads...
-
where is this?
-
On an EA81 where the exhaust bolts to the head there are 4 holes in a square pattern. Two of them normally have exhaust studs in them.the other two are empty. It seems the two "normal" holes stripped out and took the studs with them,so Im going to rotate the mounting ears for the exhaust. My question is what size threads are those holes? And how long of a stud do I need?

Im just looking to get it to not stick.Working properly is a whole nother story.all of the brakes work just the brakes SUCK.As in they wont even lock on gravel...

The left front wheel on my 1983 4x4 GL seems to be sticking. At speeds over 3 MPH I can hear a sqealling/grinding sound. It increases with speed.I know its something to do with the left front wheel because that wheel is always hotter after a driver than anything else.Ive tried to remove the wheel and bang on stuff and that made the wheel turn easier(before I had to have a prybar to turn the wheel in Neutral without the brakes on.Now it turns somewhat easily but when ever it turns it makes the same squalling/grinding noise. How do I take the caliper off the car so I clean up the slide pins?Im sure the slide pins have just rusted or corroded or something...Besides Im geting tired of the thing being really gutless and doggy(oh wait its a old subaru with an exhaust leak off each head...).Oh and 22 MPG highway sucks.

OK so this is how you treat me?

sounds like a timing belt skipped a tooth or ate itself. -
after the katana breaks I was planning to melee the zombies to death with the rifle-as in halo.
-
so first there is an emp strike. That destroys the security grids that hold the nana/t virus in containment=zombie outbreak. After that I would like My truck to have steel bars reenforcing the windows and everything. Then I would go zombie smashing with my 6000LBS+ diesel truck. If I had a big enough fuel cell I could do that for a while.then after I run out of diesel retreet to high ground with 4000 rounds for my .308 hunting rifle. After I run out of ammo I shall use a katana! hmmm,if gun shots are a dinner bell to zombies than what is the sound of a 5.9L cummins turbo diesel haulin some serious ***?

I want to put some functional vents in the hood of my 1983 GL offroad toy.I want to reduce underhood temps and improve airflow through the radiator by increasing the difference in pressure from the front of the radiator to the back(engine side) of the radiator.Hopefully the combination of both of those should make the car never over heat. Ive heard that vents towards the front of the hood are best for lowering the air pressure in the engine bay due to the vaccuum when air travels over those parts. That would help with flow though the radiator. I also want to vent the hot air that gets trapped by the firewall.Which would make everything under the hood not as hot so maybe the car would run cooler and have more power? However I have heard that if vents are placed toward the windshield it will act more like a intact rather than exhaust port. That would force air under the hood which would make the air pressure under the hood increase, which could stall air flow though the radiator. so if I want to improve radiator effiency and lower underhood temps, where would be the best place to put the vents? The goal is to have air flowing out of the engine bay rather than in. Thanks in advance.

forget the mini trucks.I want the tracks...

hydrogen contains more energy per unit of volume than gasoline.

how much do you care about fenders?
-
why convert to solid axles?part of the reason why subies do so well offroad is because they dont weigh anything.seems like adding weight would be a step backwards.plus the IFS/IRS makes the car like a sled through mud because the diff isnt hanging down like an anchor.
-
dont go much larger than 27" MT's or you will lose alot of your gearing.the 87 is it a daily driver or offroad toy?I have a 83 wagon that is an offroad toy that I change the tires out when I get somewhere.in the mud it runs 26" tractor tires.goes anywhere I want it to go in the mud...its not lifted, just doesnt have any fenders...

fer sure.

heres some night pics: http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n45/Uberoo/Subaru%20stuff/ I feel get some daylight pics, soonish.

its not just that I have to take pics of them I need to aim them still.I was going to aim them tonight but was too tired after work, maybe tomarrow.they are bolted straight through the roof, btw. I however do argree this thread is worthless without pics,if I get home tommarow while its still light I will take pics of them in their unaimed state just to show that they do exist. they are walmart cheapies.didnt really want to spend alot of money on something that might be broken offroad..

I just finished wiring some offroad lights up.I went inside and ate a sandwhich and then it was raining.I really dont want to get my brand new camera wet so I will take pics when it stops raining... anyway I have 4 lights total,I have 2 flood lamp and 2 driving lamps. The driving lights are in the middle and are aimed straight ahead. The flood lights are at the edges and are angled so that there beam just slightly overlaps the driving lights beam.all 4 lights are 55 W so I dont piss off people when I go offroading...all of the lights are 3X5 rectangles.

Might as well put my lastest mudding trip in here. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=88260 there isnt really any good mudding pics. Then I tried to spin the tires to get it to fling mud but the EA81 doesnt have to power to,so it would just move faster...tractor tires rock though...
-
needs more trianglulation, get rid of rectangles.
-
why would anyone buy custom lights for something that goes offroad?
-
Portal axles could be neat on a subaru...just top speed would be halved, but tire size could be doubled or 1.5 if you want some gearing...
