-
here be some pics! http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n45/Uberoo/ the car is an 1983 GL wagon, forest green in color.now is CAMO because of rust.the "OUCH" pic is the damage someone did to the car and didnt bother to leave a note.. Snow is rapidly melting here...I wish it would snow alot...

it seems the winters are getting colder and the summers hotter... now the roads are just slush thanks to the state getting a good start on on plowing/de-ICEING...GRRR I wanted to to snow 2 feet so I was the only one mobile...pics should be on the way

Um my 1983 GL likes to stall if I come to a stop with it in neutral.anything above 1000 RPM is no problem.anything below that and sometimes it will run and continue idling other times it will slowly start to bog down and then just die.How can I set the idle up to around 1000RPM rather than 700 that its at now? Also for some reason if the car has sat for a while without being run I have to prime the carb by pouring in a bit of gas(or other flamible liquid like butane, propane,Mixed 2 stroke gas, etc). Then after that it will run.after it stalls I just have to start it and it goes but before-like when you start it for the first time of a day.Without priming it will crank forever and not kick into life.Any idea as to what my be causing that issue?its not to bad although jumpering the starter is kinda fun when you accidentally spilled gas on your hands... So how can I set the idle up and will the issue with having to prime the carb go away after some new gas and carb cleaner has been run though a bit?If I have to get a new carb to fix a minor problem...eh I can deal with having to prime the carb...Thanks in advance.

It just snowed 6 inches here.So I decided to fire up my subaru even though it had no lower radiator support or cooling fans.Oh and BTW its not legal-no fenders, tractor tires, smashed light,no registration,no title,no insurance. In other words jail bait. My subaru is a 1983 GL wagon rolling on 26" tractor tires.First of all its parked in a dug out area that was supposed to be the base of a shop-never got built.Anyway to get to the road I have to go up a grade 7 slope(or better) that is just slippery as all hell.Mud underneath and now 6" of fresh snow covering it.Just went its wet my 89 cummins 4x4 on moderatly worn out mud tires can hardly make it up.So I leave my subaru in FWD and simply WALK up the hill with very little if any slipage. So far so good.So i start driving around.one thing that is immediatly apparent is the fact that at anything over 2.5 mph there is a tone of vibrations.too be expected.next up turning.Pretty much ANYWHERE you have the tires aimed is where you will go.Indeed if you want to turn just turn the wheel and away you go.lets say your coming into a corner a bit fast and the front starts understeering simply turn where you want to be and press the gas.In fact doing that pulls so hard Im supprised I didnt explode a CV it just goes flat out where ever you drive it.So I went over to a friends house to show him it.I took him for a brief ride around the block.to prove just how awesome the tires were I started to drive in a ditch at the side of the road. Then he said that the people living across the street would call the cops if I was doing that.so I turned the wheel and it climbed out of the ditch with no effort. IN FWD non the less! the reves didnt even go up.the car just turned and went back on the road like it was driving on dry pavement-even though it was on grass that was under 6" of snow.Oh yea and check this out.even though my toy doesnt have ABS I never had to pump the brakes to stop even on HUGE STEEP HILLS.In fact I would bet that it drives better on the snow than it does on pavement.Just incredable.after that I put it away. Then I had to go pick up my sister's friend.I choose to drive my dodge because I had my fair share of "OH SH**" moments when I saw a cop while driving the subaru.so i fire up the dodge and I can't even get moving in RWD so I lock in the hubs and put it 4x4 just to make it up a very gentle hill near our house(Its like a 2).After that I put it in 2wd once again. Then it comes time to stop.being used to complete control the subaru offered I almost slid though the stop sign into oncoming traffic-thankfully there wasnt a car at that intersection...so score goes like this: SUBARU: 1000 Dodge : -500 the dodge just slid everywhere.4x4 only made it worse because then the front would also slid with the back end.yea the dodge is open diffs and so is the subaru. So with that being said.I would hate to find the mud/snow pit that the subaru gets stuck in.espeically once its in 4wd with a locked rear. lesson? Go out and BUY some 6X14 R1 tractor tires at les Schwab.for all 4 they are 300 plus TAX.they are roughly 26" tall and 7" wide.on 14" rims.Mine are 14" mazda pickup rims redrilled .They are definatly something you put on at the trail but the traction they provide is just out of this world.just point them and go. Im just STOKED!!! Now I just have to set the idle a little higher so it doesnt try to die when ever I come to a stop.I have to fix my wipers-the passenger side is striped out and the driver side tries to catch on the lower edge of the windshield. And for some reason even though I installed a relay so the thing would start when I turned the key,it decided to not do that anymore(was working fine a week ago) so everytime it stalled I would have to jumper the starter-annoying when you have hood pins... Go buy the tires you wont be dissapointed!

I always thought the radius rods limited a fare bit.I know when ever I jack the front up on mine it seems like the radius rods are binding at the lower ends of travel

and also it will reduce ground clearance...

I might be entering the silverstate classic next year.Im just wondering what it would take to get an EA82 wagon to average 95 mph for 90 miles in 70-100* heat?most likly it would be with my saab because the general consensus was just get in and drive.Im curious exactly what it would take to make a EA82 wagon do that(Im asking EA82 because they look better lowered than EA81's,EA81's look tougher lifted but just look strange lowered,EA82's can go both ways...)

I never got a slot drilled.my drill bit bound up and broke in the selector shaft.
-
I have those tractor tires.Mine have thinner lugs.Mine are 6X14 Radial tires.they are about 7" wide but they are hyper aggressive.Mine are actually 26" overall.

92 sedan lifted! Look!

how big of tires does that thing have? -
on my EA81 toy,(which I just found out is/was a 1983) the shifting is really sloppy.I remember all to well when I tried to fix sloppy shifting and that really didn't work to well. But on my toy the plate that covers the shifter hole is not there so it goes in reverse I just have to smash the shifter into the tranny to get there.would it be bad to hold the shifter as far to the left as possible in first and put a couple of welds on the shifter output on the trans?I dont plan on removing the gearbox ever from it.so would that be ok?

" i cant believe what you guys can do with soobs. it makes my truck look very run of the mill. " thats AWESOME!!!! I need to find a camera and take some pics of my ROO,offroad of course. Mod list: *6X14 R1 Tractor tires (26") on redrilled Mazda Rims *Striped interior *Rebuild the front end because it was destroyed *Lincoln rear Locker. *Removed Fenders *Removed Sway Bars But mine isnt lifted. But it is on tractor tires...god I need to finish it so I can play with it... hopefully lightweight is key.removed fenders, interior just has dash, steering wheel, and front seats,no carpet,no headlining,no rear seat (which weighs a ton BTW) maybe when I get money I'll replace side windows with plexiglass..

the plastic is flexable...and it tends to return to its original shape...

how does a 13" wheel save over a 15" wheel?the bigger wheel allows bigger brakes to be fitted stock...

I think I am going to go with a 3/8" sheet of UHMW bolted to the 1" angle iron frame.supposidly UHMW is slippery.I wonder what it will be like to slide over stuff rather than a slight bit of resistance from the metal skidplate?
-
I know but I have a fair bit of 1x1 angle iron I got for free...
-
arnt road signs galvanized steel?
-
but the stock plate looks like swiss cheese-err has some large preformed holes in it...
-
I remember I thread a while ago about someone useing roadsigns as skidplates.Im just wondering how well that has been holding up.especially as the other day a drunk driver hit a signpost.completly destroying it.The sign is in a ditch with shattered bits of wood. Are road signs any good for skidplates?I was kinda thinking of a "frame" made of 1x1 angle iron..

I want them too!but I dont think the bank would let me take out a 6K loan on tracks for a subaru...would be neat.It would also give me a reason to stay with subies for a while... anyone have any more info about the hatch?
-
I dont know what it is but I am yet to be hurt by my 84 wagon that is my toy.I dont think its lack of rust.the body is so rusty that a ej22 would probally rip it in two.its so rusty I would be worried about highway travel to say the least...or maybe I totally spaced and forgot all I have been doing is wiring work...
-
I had an 84 brat that gave me problems and hurt me...

why not 5 speed DR from the EA cars?with an adapter?
