  1. and so it has begun.next thing you know you will have much larger aggressive tires, with numerous off road lights,etc,etc...the good news is it costs FAR less than a G35.probally less than a stage 1 performance kit for a G35...
  2. My 1984 GL wagon has not hurt me while Im working on it.Ive been working on it alot lattly. When I had my 1987 GL and the 1984 brat it seems every time I went to go work on them,I bled. Both the brat and the 87 GL were extremly problematic. The 1984 GL toy it seems everything is just falling into place. No word on how long it will stay running but it seems to be very healthy*knock on wood*.I wonder, seeing as we all believe cars have personalities I wonder if the ones that dislike you are unrelaible and hurt you when ever they can. While the cars that like you stay running and dont hurt you.to date so far all of my saabs have stayed running for a while and for the most part haven't hurt me. the two problematic subarus mentioned drew lots of blood from me and had piss poor reliablity...I dunno I MUST be going nuts...maybe my 84 toy likes me because I saved it from rusting away in a field..
  3. I ended up just wiring my driving lamps to the high beam. This is my offroad toy so it has 2 55 watt driving lights for headlights.unfortunatly they are wired so they are in the high beam circuit...my toy had the front end smashed so I had to fix that...its getting so close..Im just puting some lights on it so I dont gain any unnessasary attention...although a rusty green wagon with a steel bumper up front and expanded metal grill and a rear taillight made up of trailer lights...Gee I might as well put a strobe light on it...
  4. On an EA81 which light is the highbeam and which light is the low beam? Its come time for me to install lights to the front of my offroad toy.Problem is that when I got my ea81 every single light was smashed.so is the low beam the "inner" or is it the "outer" light-on a quad headlight ea81.thanks.
  5. yea anything is possible considering it sat for god knows how long..
  6. that has a seperate transfercase.Normal subies are fwd until you put in 4wd. or they are awd..
  7. my 1984 subaru gl wagon offroad toy is having a bit of a problem. It seems the gas pedal is really low in the travel(its almost on the floor. and it seems if I give it abit to much gas it dies.this is when trying to move it.I can get it moving by VERY slowly letting out the clutch and then it will move it just seems like it wants to stall very easily.it idles fine.Just when I try to get moving...It probally doesnt help that 2.5 of the wheels the brakes are sticking..and the gas is who knows how old...Again I can move it with the clutch it just dosnt seem to like the gas pedal much. How can I fix it stalling when gas is applied?it seems even prone to stalling if pressed in neutral even..How can I fix the gas pedal so it is not like on the floor?Granted I haven't taken it to any sorta speed just idling to and from places for a bit.Ive probally driven it about 200FT total(just flushed the cooling system, before that there wasnt any coolant so I tried not to run it.. I dunno get the wheels so they arent sticking, put street tires on it and drive around the block and see if it resolves itself. But it runs like a champ when it runs though.Might need to fix its millions of exhaust leaks but thats another day..and I need to put a relay between the ignition and starter so it will start without jumping the positive side of the battery to the signal wire on the starter...
  8. so why does the track have to be so wide?now its like a truck and will not fit on ATV trails.or do you have atv trails there or is it wide open sand dunes?
  9. Alright I'll bite ENGINE OB1 EJ22 TRANNY 5 speed D/R with adapter CHASSIS 1987 GL wagon OTHER 2" spring lift,Wiring by Noahdl, agressive snow tires on 15" redrilled chevie steelies...
  10. What about cutting an axle shaft in half.Drill a hole big enough for the "pins" that hold receiver hitches in place on both sides of the split in the axle shafts.Have a strong coller to hold everything together. Then have a bearing in one side so the axle shaft is supported.Pull one of the pins on the street.Put the pin back in place when you want the welded diff. Here is a rough picture I drew in paint. The blue shaft in the picture is a another "pin" for the reciever hitch.just its welded to the steel coller.and the coller itself is welded to one side of the split axle shaft. as long as you are not to hot and heavy on the throttle when you have it engaged it should work...
  11. well I smashed out the back window of an EA82 wagon when I jumped it with the back end full of all sorta hard metal objects(bits of exhaust, various flywheels, etc) numerous blown headgaskets though due to piss poor radiators, steep hills, loss of pressure,etc...
  12. all of the people talking about EA82 reliably their cars have been maintained.if an ea82 has been neglected it will let you down allot more than a ea81 or ej22.it just depends on how it was cared for.ive blown headgaskets on EA81s,EA82,and EJ22.just mine have been 150-600 dollar cars.the 600 one was a brat that had been overheated.a ea82 I had to replace a water pump before I could drive it,ej22-pull and save special-just I didnt rebuild engine...
  13. I can fix some of the things on that list that they should of had.One thing I wished they did was put in really low gears for 1/2 and taller gears for 3-5.Low R would help too,and Really low low range like 4:1 or something..
  14. I finally got my toy home.I put it on a trailer and towed it home, through snow/ice storms and down steep hills but its home non the less.I couldnt keep it where it was because the farm it was at trusted my friend, but not quite me.My friend is moving so I had to bring it down because they dont trust me...Pics will hopefully be tommarow. Now the only problem is how can I get it back up to where I go 4wheeling...
  15. wow I have 26" on no lift. Then again I dont have fenders either..

    EA81 VS sammy?

I thought subaru wagons floated?Anyway My next off road vehicle will probally be a mid 80's to early 90's Mitsubishi Montero. But that will be when I not only can afford one but when I want a trail rig/daily driver/go skiing with vehicle and a car for fast roads... yea it doesnt have the aftermarket support as a sammy but they are literally bomb proof.
  17. so what about a subie with 27" tires and welded rear. That gateskeeper sounds like they wouldnt allow it to run on some trails.
  18. the wheelbase is 96.3In so just over 8 ft.So I just need to make some sort extension for the wagon to ride on...Anyone happen to how how much the front overhand protrudes in front of the tire?I think I need to visit the offroad forum and see if I can find appoach angle for a stock wagon then do a bit of trig..I will be sure to take some pic of wagon in the bed.
  19. I just found out that the wagon is 63.8" so that fits with almost 2" of space. Now I just have to figure out how to fit 14Ft of wagon into an 8ft bed...
  20. unfortunatly it is an hour away right now so that isnt a great idea...Im going up their monday for a bit of offroading.I just want to see if it will fit.The truck on the other hand I have 65.75" to work with.
  21. Just wondering how wide is an EA81 wagon without mirrors or protruding trim?I have an 89 dodge cummins 4x4 pickup. The tailgate almost seems just slightly larger than the width of an EA81.I have seen pics that show that a samurari can fit in the back of my truck. An ea81 vehicle is pretty narrow...So how wide is an EA81 vehicle with out mirrors or other removable bits..my offroad toy is on tractor tires so I can't go over 20 mph with it.I can't use a tow dolly to get it to offroad places, car trailers are expensive. What about putting it in the bed of my truck...
  22. holy crap 35" on a subaru.I need to find a donor 4x4 toyota frame then. Then I will put 37" on an EA81 wagaon HAHAHA
