you call those meaty tires?these are meaty tires: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://img.alibaba.com/photo/50916514/Agricultural_Tractor_Tire.jpg&imgrefurl=http://cathaytire.en.alibaba.com/product/50159348/50916514/Agricultural_Tires/Agricultural_Tractor_Tire.html&h=360&w=360&sz=14&hl=en&start=1&sig2=zoawPX4pk5_Rr89bqgaQgg&um=1&tbnid=iimgsC-iaNts4M:&tbnh=121&tbnw=121&ei=leEwR_uZHIzGgAOEu42WAQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dtractor%2Btires%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7GGLG%26sa%3DN

the brakes had rusted the wheels solid.

on my new ea81 offroader I had to pull the front end out some 4".so I hooked my 89 dodge cummins up to the front and set off as fast as the truck would move in Drive without pressing the gas.the slack in the chain went away,I felt a slight tug and all of the sudden it seems the EA81 is much more aerodynamic.the lower radioter support complety ripped away from the body.So now I am going to re weld the upper section so its stout, then build a C-channel bumper/radiator support/skid plate mounting surface.I didn't think it would be that weak...I was only going like 1 mph... that and the hook that was on the radiator support not only pulled the lower support forward but then it encounted resistance due to the upper sheetmetel,so it tore through the lower radiator support.

I can't find a link to them.Les scwabs site doesnt show sizes avaiable.Just go down to your local les scwab and ask for really small tractor tires 6.00X14 R1 to be exact. They are about 26" tall so they should be perfect for an EA81(still have gearing and all). You might have to do some fender clearancing or a small lift. oh yea the 344 was after the $24 of tax.where I ordered mine the tires themselves came out to be 317.These tires are not street legal,so you will have to find another set of rims to run them on.swap them out at the trail.I will post pics of them once I get the tires(monday!!!)

what about making the air bag deploy then get a nice momo or something?make it deploy by hitting sensor with hammer.

3 speed AT 4wd for off roading?
Uberoo replied to dirt racer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I dunno isnt there the inherent torque multiplication in auto trannies? -
I just paid $344 at les swab for all 4 tires.so they are within the price range of most of you.
-
Possibly but the winter is coming and it might get cold...I could move the hatch to fix the departure angle though.

The holy grail part I found some 6.00X14 tractor tires. They are roughly 26" tall and on a 14" rim. They are for a tractor so one tire can hold up like 1800lbs at 5 PSI.So no problem running them on a subi (or a fullsize truck for that matter). Best of all they should be sub 100 a piece probally about 80-90 a tire. All you need after that is some 14" rims that can be adapted to fit subie-any 14" 6 hole import or chevy rim,or pugs.Better solution than running ATV tires.Plus the tread is about 1.5" deep. Ok now that over with,on to the second part.I am building an EA81 wagon DR 4x4 for offroad. The front is bashed up,so the fenders will be gone. The body is RUSTY.It also doesnt have a title. So it will be trailered to offroad area.Any ideas on mods? I will run it on the tractor tires above with some 14" mazda rims. And I plan to remove ALL unnessary weight.so any ideas for mods?It isnt really going to have an exhaust.

how would a danger ranger frame and transfer case work if it was stuffed under the body?engine and trans would be subaru-possibly.
-
Im looking at the IFS travel.18-24" of travel is possible with the TTB..lockers in both ends...That seems like the ultimate 4x4 subaru...go anywhere and actually have the wheels touching the ground...besides I know of several 4x4 rangers that the owners plan to swap out the TTB for a solid axle(one of them wants 44" on a ranger...)so the TTB could be had cheaply. It should be strong enough for our little subies...
-
Just wondering something here.inn 4x4 circles with real/big 4x4 trucks the dana 35 IFS is considered "weak" because it can only have a max tire size of 33-35".That is with ford ranger power. What if the D35 IFS TTB was put under the front and rear of a subaru?Run a transfer case.Best of all you can actually find gear ratios for the D35 IFS.The best ratio I could find was 5.13.Do you think a subie could turn 35's with a 5.13 gear ratio and low range from the transfer case, and the low range from the tranny?I bet it could...Thinking about a EA81 on 35" tires gives me wood.

You sir can call me robert! This time I might actually have other people help me change headgaskets should they choose to blow.or I could ditch the engine and transfer case and put the body on a GM frame...where the car is I could get a nice s10 frame complete with running gear and 4.3L engine for 200..it would be big...

muff;er replacment question
Uberoo replied to crazylong127's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
gee,I was going to suggest just running a straight pipe...I guess Im just a redneck then:headbang: .You could run a glasspack.a glasspack does kill some noise. -
Ive blown headgaskets in EA81s,EA82s,and EJ22s
-
Soon I will be buying an EA81 4x4 wagon.I am thinking its an 84 because of the quad headlights and DR 4 speed.Anyway it has 225K showing on the clock.Besides replacing the tstat with an oem one,and replacing the radiator with a new one what steps can I do so it will last a resonable amount of time?tired of subaru's blowing headgaskets like they are going outta style.

Poor, poor Wagon! This is sad.
Uberoo replied to mudduck's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That was a boring way to destroy a car.I would rather go 90 mph down a road most people can only go 5 mph.more than 75% of the time in the air,oh yea. Then after the car will no longer move under its own power-then crush the remains with large 4x4's. -
I found a 4x4 EA81 wagon. The front end is a bit crunched-the electric fan on the radiator is touching the drive belt..Body has some dents and dings and a fair bit of rust.It will be a "trailer queen".It doent have a title.Im not going to register it,title it,or even insure it.seeing as it will never be on the road.. Im going to toss the front fenders, then pull the front out. Then 4 55 Watt lights will be on top of a steel bumper. Then 4 100 Watts lights on the roof.finally two more 55 Watt utility lights pointing rearward.I will run 26" tractor tires on it.when/if the headgasket blows it will have a subie body, but will have a chevy 4.3 V6 then something for a transmission, and the chevy transfer case. T case mod and still keeping IFS/IRS.So if the headgasket blows I will put it a chevy S10 frame but graft in the subaru(or better indepentant suspension). Where I am getting it/where it will be stored has about 40-50 chevies and fords. So lots of parts. So cheap parts. If I do go with the chevy frame it will be on 33's or bigger. when I am done with it think "Road Warrior" rather than cute 4x4 station wagon.Sadly though have to wait until next saterday to even buy it/get started on it.It should be beastly...Unfortunatly I have never had luck with subaru engines... o yea,A major plus is a shop with basiclly a fab shop is on the property where it will be stored.welder, torch, chop saw,air compressor, tons of tools.should be fun.I might actually have a relaible 4x4 now...I will try to get pics when I can start working on it..
-
A suby would need a trick long travel A arm suspension and porcshe 930 Cv's to even be competitive and be safe.suspension seats could help..
-
I was on youtube looking for video's of trucks with tractor tires. When I came upon these jems.ENJOY:eek: holy hell.I think I need to go out and buy a cheap one...

95 tacoma 4x4 VS 80's Dodge Cummins turbo diesel 4x4
Uberoo replied to Uberoo's topic in Non-Soob Off Roading
I think Im gonna go with the cummins.my dad hates the japanese cars, because they started ww2 to get supplies and we gave them supplies...(he is contributining most of the funds...)But in either case he likes dodges and the fact that it is a diesel puts the icing on the cake...Now I will see if I can find some tractor tires 33-35" tall on a 15,16,0r 16.5 Rim..Then it shouldnt get stuck even with the heavy front end. -
I was looking at an 81 toyota 4x4 until I realized it was a total pile. The body was almost entirly rusted away.So I looked elsewhere.I recieved a tip of a 95 tacoma 4x4 for sale.It has 167000 miles on it but 145000 of those were it being towed behind a motor home.It is super clean, and really nice. The manual hubs are really stiff indicating it has never been in 4x4,thus never beat on. that one is 5400 but I was able to talk them down to 5000 cash.I was out wondering around today and I saw a late 80's dodge CUMMINS turbo diesel regular cab pickup 4x4 for sale for 3000.Which would be a better buy when I plan to use either vehicle to go offroad?Mud and trail running mostly PROS for toyota-low milliage, good MPG,Very nice, never been beat on,good all around rig Cons- lift kits are expensive unless I want a body kit. PROs for dodge- diesel power, decent economy, possiblity to run on WVO Cons-diesel engine is heavy as all hell-so the front end will sink in mud requireing lots of power/agressive tires to get get out
-
I think I found an 81 toyota pickup..solid axles and wheelbase.Just they sound like ************E
-
And its those same people that designed saabs. No wonder my FWD saab likes to powerslide through the corners with out me doing anything... But as far as the tank goes.I would be down for that!!!
-
After looking around I found an 81 toyota pickup with 2 spare 20R engines and a spare 22R engine and a spare front axle for 1500..me likes that option better plus the guy with the toy isnt a nut job,an old hippy yes,but no nut job.
