If I could ever keep them running...So far my luck with EA81,EA82 and EJ22 have been utter trash-spent more time broken/blown headgasket then they did running.Like a jaguar at the mechanic for 300 days of the year.
-
Can suzukis do well in muddy hills?Everysingle video of them shows them running out of momentum on hills. Is that an issue with power or the lack of wheelbase? Power can be helped but wheelbase can't really be helped. But then if it has better gearing less strain on clutch.

If it came down to a sammy or an EA81 subaru what would you pick in my position.my offroad is mud/trail riding-no rock climbing.I dont have a lot of money to spend on aftermarket stuff.I am wondering because I have seen some vids of sammys getting stuck on hills and subaru's walzing up similar hills. Then again some videos show the sammy just tearing up un even terrain, terrain that you would stuff the front bumper into and lift tires. So mostly mud runing/trail riding with some muddy hills and some un even terrain.Which would you choose? In either case not thinking extreme just decent sized swampers and lockers(welded most likely).

I found a samurari that is in a trailer park.It looks like it has sat for atleast 5 years. All 4 tires are flat. There is a layer of dirt on the dash and seats about 1/4" thick. Its a black convertible with a 5 speed.I was about to go offer on it when the guy in the next trailer over said "Can I help You?".I said "do you know who owns this?" he said "don't do it,that guy is really nuts,he chases people off his property, even cops" so I left because I am rather small and I was just by myself. Today on the other hand I might go offer $200 cash with a larger buddy who doesnt really take any sh*t.Just offer $200 then load on trailer I dont need to know why it was parked.Just Pay and damn near lay rubber getting out of there before he changes his mind.So am I slightly retarded?

Should I buy my old brat back?
Uberoo replied to Uberoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
they want 600 for it.even Though I traded it for a wagon and still had to pay 150-trade in value of brat was 300.The yard that has it says they paid 600 for it...they SORTA did.300 trade in+300 but I only paid 150 for it because the motor on the wagon blew a headgasket two weeks into owning it.Although I still fail to see how they paid 600 for it?The wagon was a trade in aswell..so I guess I wont buy it then. Its on the spokane craigslist -
Strut rods (was Strut bars)
Uberoo replied to Hodaka Rider's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What is the point of one of those? Why was the radius rod put on anyway? If it is needed I wonder If heim joints on the radius rod might help to get a bit more flex out of the front end... -
yep the old saab 93,95,and 96's.The early models had a 2 cylender 2 stroke. Then they uped it to 3 banger 2 stroke.I want one so bad. They just sound nuts 841cc of 2 stroke fury...Check out this clip of one.TURN THE SOUND UP!!!!! then a bit of light reading:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_two-stroke

see if you can find FORESTER struts and springs for even MORE lift..Super swampers are really cheap in the size you need for your car. They are only like 85 bucks,And thats for the TSL.
-
If you want you can put a Dual Range Transmission in there(from the eariler models). That will give you a true 4x4 setup and you will sorta have lo range.Thats if you have the manual.if the have an auto there is a 'duty C" solinoid that you do something with(sorry the new subarus arnt my area of expertise)When you mess with the duty C it gives you full lock up.So 4x4.Run super swampers.Subarus actually do pretty damn well for what they are.One of the times I drove my wagon offroad I went down a trail that normally it takes a serious rig to go down.I had no problems.I didnt know it was a "hard" trail until I met up with someone later and they were like "holy siht are you the car that went down eagle creek!?I quess it was me because I was the only car-station wagon actually, for miles..Im rambling.

new option. How are dodge Raiders/mitsubishi montero's? I found one with a blown motor and a camo paintjob for 300.The 2.6 mitsu I4 can be found everywhere.cheap.It looks like a more powerfull sammy..And they first started offroading them down under.which means there is some aftermarket for them... here is some info:http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.4x4wire.com/mitsubishi/gallery/evolution/tn_88raider.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.4x4wire.com/mitsubishi/gallery/evolution/&h=99&w=150&sz=4&hl=en&start=11&um=1&tbnid=Td7x81O1VTO5qM:&tbnh=63&tbnw=96&prev=/images%3Fq%3Ddodge%2Braider%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN

all of my subaru's have given me problems.Yet I want to go offroad. Then again I could always got buy a samuari, especially because I want a Hatchback. But then I look how expensive everything is for a sammy...So maybe if I get a well maintained hatch then replace the radiator and the T stat right off the bat it will work for a while...I wonder if us offroading objects that were never designed to be offroaded might be why the have problems. If they wernt ment to be offroaded then why do they have a true 4x4 system with a high/low "transfercase".Or why is everything so rugged on them apart from the axles, and cooling system,etc...
-
holy power batman! The EJ22 is normally good for full bodied cars.Your putting one in a buggy...I dunno my offroading style doesnt require gobs of power..But it is usefull. The motor is really clean.Ive dreamt of having a clean shinny engine, but between oil leaks and road grime/mud its almost impossible!

Horrible news, Colin McRae dies in Helicopter Crash
Uberoo replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Rally/Racing
yea whats up with racecar driver's ding in non racing deaths?Still is very tragic. The things he did in a car...It is very sad.R.I.P Colin McRae.Rummor has it that his familiy was on board.Even his 5 year old son.The internet truely can't even begin to show emotion. -
did anyone check out the web site that was on the back of the jeep thing? The suspensions START AT $40,000....Holy christ....I think I would rather buy a hummer H1 and swap in a cummins diesel for that kinda money...
-
other than ATV tires...And If i understood you correctly you want a tire for highway use and a tire for offroad use...

The hardest thing will be figuring out mounts. Not to terrably hard.

Whats the deal w/these Catalytic Converters?
Uberoo replied to markjw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nobody seems to steals cat converters here in lewiston.Posibly because almost everyone removes them themselves.I sold my subaru and my saab is low enough that it would be a royal PITA to remove its cat.Although when I do remove I need to find out where I can turn it in..90 bucks for a OEM subaru cat...Maybe its 100 for a OEM saab cat? I didnt find anything near lewiston but Large foreign cats are 110 a piece at this one company out of new jersy regular cats for foreign cars are 65.christ... -
I was carless for a while but the cars were still on the insurance policy.I have a new daily driver now its time for a need 4x4...I have a buddy with a towbar.I could either use his truck or my moms suburban...I was just exercising my options as I would rather not pay the gas to drive a v8 automatic fullsize up there...
-
yea your probally right...
-
They say that it just got harder and harder to shift, and then it wouldnt go into gear with the car running(I imagine they dont know to to rev match...) AND she said she had the title and started reading it and she said "84 subaru 2dr "HB".I wonder what that could be?
-
Theres an 84 Gl coupe I might buy.Its 4x4 with hi/lo 4 speed.Only problem other than asetics is they say the clutch is blown. It could just need to be adjusted, but whatever. Its in ford washington so about 2 hours and 40 minutes acording to map quest.Im thinking I could drive it down (mostly freeway) by rev matching and starting in 1st.And trying to stay out of towns...I think I could bring a towbar up just in case(I wouldnt really want to try to drive in towns with no clutch) Assuming I can keep it in 4th just about all of the way would it be doable?
