Bad news I guess.after it warmed up it would idle at 2K.I looked at the coolant and it was empty so I started filling the Rad.Immeditatly the RPM climbed to 4k after putting water in.I pulled the airbox lid and what do I see?WHITE FOAM/Froth. oh no. as a bit of good news most of the oil that was burning was burning off the CAT.Probally because the oil in the motor didnt resemble oil.

ok on a whim I charged the battery on my brat.I then proceded to attempt to give it an itailian tune up.after about 30 seconds cranking it fired. It didnt have a whole bunch of power.so I preceded to floor it.took about a minute of it sputtering and what not before it would rev past 2K.it finaly reved so I took it for a drive,it almost stranded me a block away from my house, but I was able to turn around and give her hell to get back home. After I got it home, and when it start its idle went from lumpy, sputtery, choking, etc to almost the way a nice motor should run.oddly enough when it was idling smooth it wouldnt rev past 4K.seemed like it took all of the engine power to even keep it running at 4k.Also the smoke was pretty good.If I floored it with the hood closed pretty soon it would die becuase of all the smoke.I will look at it tommarow but I believe the smoke is blue/blueish white. So that means oil burning. Note: last time I posted of the motor's condition I said it sounded like a bag of hammers were thrown in the engine.it doesnt sound that way anymore. It sounds like a subi engine.Just dies for no apparent reason, smokes, and wont rev. I wonder if this motor is savable?Without major sugerury. interesting in the fact romping on the throttle is/was making the motor run marginally better

For a long time I thought I had a 1/2 steel plate in a lot my parents own.Turns out its 7/16".Would that pose any problems? If it does I won't be able to buy a 1/2 plate unless I want to spend like 100+ bucks.if thats the case I might as well just use a EA81 wagon with D/R that I found for cheap. Note I have a brat with an EA81 so I wouldnt have to fab anything

whats the best way to get the harness out of donor car?I would be at pull and save in spokane,wa.2 hours from where I live so Id rather not have to make numerous trips.
-
so then its not an issue with 4 speed D/r? Saves me 50 bucks for a new tranny, not to mention time at pull and save. The brat will be an offroad playtoy.. so if I have to drive it on the street put it in 4hi in the rain. just tring to find the most reliable setup.axles I can replace, blown trannies suck, just like blown engines.

what else could you have kids break? "don't drop that bolt in the motor" BANG =New EJ22:burnout: -
ok the motor in my brat is blown so Im thinking of dropping in an EJ22.I know theres wiring work involved(scary, time consuming)not to mention an adpater to fit the EJXX motor to EA trans.Heres my question. How much power can the 4 sp D/r hold up to?if I drop in EJ motor can I go with performance exhaust, intake, etc.Or keep the motor stock?thanks in advance.

My brat is silver right now.only problem is rust has went through the silver in some spots, partically the bed and fenders.About how much bed liner do I need to line the bed, from bottom to top rail, front to back? also what do you think of my idea for the tree protection for the front?

The Paint on my 84 brat is ************e so I was thinking of something better. How is this? The green is dark green and the dark grey is supposed to be flat black.the pic doesnt show future lift and it doesnt show my 102" whip antenna.bear with me.it saved low quality so areas that are green are just a solid color not camo, same with flat black.note this is not my brat. I call it subi roadwarrior. also there is a snorkel on the passenger side A pillar

the junkyard wants 276 for a EA81 motor out of a hatch plus radiator.this is a JY that is 30 miles away.our local JY has zip for subarus from 1980-92.even then a motor from a 92 lego is 300.I dunno would PnP in spokane have EA81's? -

I dunno my brat is beat up and the motor is blown, and the tranny needs work.I realize I wouldnt be able to haul stuff.the only thing the wagon would cost me is gas and the money to rent a trailer 2 hours.I do like the brat but short of paying $300 for a new motor,it isnt going to run.so a brat body is worth more than running wagon? -
keep the lights, sell the brushguard for money to lift the roo.

One of the "You might be a subi owner" rules. If something major or expensive breaks its cheaper to get another subi. The engine on my brat died.while follwing a lead for a new engine I made a backwater deal with a small junkyard.I get a running and driving 84 wagon. It has the 1800 motor, and D/R tranny.AND REVERSE actually works.it has some front end damage becuase someone hit a dirt hill to hard, and it is the most awful shade of yellow I have ever seen.I score all that for the price of gas to haul my brat 30 miles. So is it worth it? a 1984 wagon with 1.8 and DR traded straight across for a 1984 brat with blown motor and in need of the shifter slop mod.The wagon is a bit more dented but its not like the brat wasnt going to get that way anyway. With the wagon I would take my friends camping and whatnot. possible paint idea: How do you think this will look on an 84 wagon-Flat black hood, olive green rest of car.with a 102" whip on the roof.

just secure that spare tire and you will be golden.
