My saab's starter died so I ordered a starter off ebay.the online junkyark sent an alternator rather than the starter which I need.It is all sorted out a starter is on the way.Anyway can the 80 amp alternator be adapted to fit?engine is subaru 1800 carby.I really should focus more on finding a new engine but I cant find any in local classifieds and I dont want to pay shipping...so yea I wonder if it will fit?alternator is a bosch unit from a 1990 saab...
  2. the air suction valves were disabled with weber install.the passenger side breather hose was blowing white yuck foamy junk into the airbox after a day of running like an engine should with no foam at all.I started it up after I got to my house.it kinda idles once you can get it to start.(struggles to rev when gas is pushed,tryes to die instead) assuming you can rev to 2K and beyond I hear a grinding sort of noise like a bearing is spinning in its holder(possibly siezed to shaft)

I'll pull it apart after I have another engine to put in there.was tring to get the local junkyard to let me by a wrecked 96 legacy for parts.but they want 500 for the whole car,300 for engine sans wiring harness and computer.keep in mind this legacy has no interior and was wrecked...hell if I could find an ej22+ wiring harness for 200 I would have an ej22ed brat.and blow up driveline.instead of engine..

I finally got my subi running so I atempted to take it to school today.it got about 3/4 the way there before being WAY down on power.I look in the mirror and I see great clouds of blue-grey smoke just pouring from the backend.I drove about a mile more to where I could find a safe place to pull over.did I mention it was way underpowered.so anyway I have it maxed out at 15 MPH in first.by this time the engine sounds like a bag of hammers was droped in there.And the smoke,If I was in a police chase I would be invisable.I turned around and got about 1/8 of a mile up a small side hill and the car just quit.I pulled it home with the help of a friend and a $32 nylon strap.Am I right in thinking the motor is jacked.BTW it had full oil and coolant when it lunched itself... engine is/was an 84 subaru 1800 motor with a weber 32/36.
  6. how much do jets cost?this weber came from the junkyard.I have no clue what it came off.it was sitting in the junkyards office window...
  7. will a radiator from an 89 gl fit an 84 brat 1800? junk yard guy says his interchange chart doesnt say it fits.but does it fit(size,I can get longer or shorter hoses) or I could go out there with a tape measure and just start measuring rads.
  8. note: I am way beyond jury rigging something to fit.my airbox is the stock one rotated 90* and dremled to fit then ductape seals up the box...im getting tired of reducting it:grin:
  9. go to welding/body shop cut out cancer.have them weld in new panel.Ive seen it done to suspension mounts so SHUT UP and git cutting.afterwards touch up the area with touch up paint or have body shop do it.problem solved. should only be like 100 bucks to weld in unless you have to replace the entire panel.

I figured out why my webered EA81 has no mid/top end. the linkage doesnt move the secondary primary till after redline.How do I get the linkage to move it sooner like when the primary starts to pewter out?Also when I moved the secondary linkage by hand I didnt notice any gas coming out.what could cause that problem.Finally Im having issues idleing.when I start my brat the idle stays at 1000 rpm,however when I drive it for a block or so,the idle creeps up.IE stop its at 1250rpm, next stop its 1750rpm,etc.I connected the choke up(blue wire off stock harness, choke moves when I step on gas.Doesnt back down though.)Any idea how to fix all of my (CAR related) issues? also where is the idle adjustment and mixture screws? this is my first carb vehicle. thanks in advance.

  13. how about sense your going with an exoskeleton why not incorporate a roll cage.then you could have a tarp or marine fabric made to give you some protection from elements

  18. rwd volvo's handle well?!? compared to what? a fullsize chevy with 17" of lift and 49" tires?
  19. one of the main selling pionts of my sube was the suspension set up all around.I wouldnt put in a live axle ever,becuase I believe with the right work an iFS suspension should out perform a solid axle anyday.ifs is new,solid axles have been around sence horse and buggy days.only so much you can do to something that has existed for 200 years.

  21. the bumper looks sweet but im going to go with the simple solution for my bumper(after I get sube running). just a C channel across the front and cut/welded so it fits front body lines...shackles will be incorporated...
  22. thats what Im thinking,cheapo oil for a couple miles after flush to see if I have an issue,also im losing coolant at a fairly fast pace.If a head was cracked how easy would it be to fix it?
