  1. So I got the rear blocks mostly done and the EA81 suspension mounted. Here Is my brat sitting on the EA81 suspension. The mounting flange for the wheels is pretty much as wide as the fenders above them.. The lift block And the slider for the block. Sorry about the blocks not really showing up I'm a fan of black non-discript suspension pieces.
  2. Yea RWD is alot of fun.I also think that once you get to the top level of racing the driving style with AWD and RWD is really similar, even though everyone says FWD behaves like AWD... Take a high speed gravel turn that requires some direction change for instance: With AWD and RWD you do a scandivanian flick, set the angle, and stand on the throttle, with FWD its similar except you have to throw in some fancy hand and foot braking to keep the rear of the car out..
  3. after watching that i want to see someone do something similar with a old RWD car like a BMW or volvo, because almost anyone can be fast out of the box with a subaru or an evo,but to go that fast with a RWD car takes alot of skill. After a season or two of thrashing the RWD sideways jump back into the subaru and you will podium like every time.
  4. This needs to be moved to Subaru P0rN,yesterday.Everything is so smexy!!!EJ powered yota-check,Tube front end-check,subaru grill-check,licence plate dash-check... Fap,Fap,FaP.......
  5. way ahead of ya.The EA71 suspension mounts the two piece torsion bars near the center of the car by the rear diff.Once I get the suspension, fuel tank, and rear diff in place I will run some diagonal braces to that center mounting point.I just don't have all that stuff yet to check for various interferances.
  6. hill holder is something all 4wd subarus came with unless I am mistaken.Properly adjusted it applies the brakes so you dont roll backwards when you push the clutch in. but this is all speculation on my part because I have never had a functioning hill holder before...
  7. They want more headroom-then they raise the seats .Now these cars have taller roofs and lower floors.Just own up and get a damned minivan. fun fact: 98 VW jetta is taller than a gen 1 brat, although the brat has far more ground clearance. It takes roughly a 3" lift to get a gen 1 brat as tall as a FWD Economy car...And I chose the brat as the basis for an offroader...
  8. why are all new cars really TALL in the midsection? your roof is the same height as the new subaru but you have MUCH more ground clearance.
  9. no, I dislike putting anything on another vehicles frame because at that point it ceased to be one car and became "x vehicle with Y bodykit" IE putting a subaru on a toyota frame. In my eyes its no longer a subaru but a toyota with a subaru body kit.
  10. gross. RustyBrat- its good to see you got the axle and strut thing sorted out.
  11. settled on a 45* angle. Now to cut a piece to go in the center of the slider and act as a brace-I beam style.
  12. here is a pic of one of the rear suspension lift/adapter blocks. This one is the passenger side, and its veiwed from the side/front.
  13. So I made the rear lift blocks that adapt the EA81 rear suspension under the brat.I ended up going with a 6" lift in the rear.I have everything almost done except I have to weld in some plates to seal up at least one side of the lift blocks to box them in for rididty as well as add some angled plates at the front of the lift blocks to act as sliders for the suspension.I have those sliders mocked up at a 68* angle from horizontal and I am wondering if I should give it a bit more angle. My goal with the sliders is that if anything hits the lift block it will slide under the suspension without getting hung up.
  14. engine or driver snorkel mandatory?
  15. The hatch in my sig was Tcased with a NA EJ22 and 31" tires and 4.11 gears. In RWD it was a struggle to keep it straight-pavement or otherwise. It essentially was a 4wd toyota AE86.I said that a turbo AWD hatch would be insane-It would be horrible for rally because its too short-it would be twitchy as all hell.On a 1.5 lane gravel road I spun it 360* in a corner at 45 MPH and was still on the road after that.Find something with some wheelbase, also get a subaru that you can find body parts for.So like I said 85-94 3dr.
  16. the 2 door coupes were rallied. They are the lightest and structuraly strongest cars, except perhaps for a hatchback.A hatchback with a turbo AWD EJ would be insane though.
  17. 8mm might not be very noticeable. However, where did you find the spacer? IIRC EJ18s have a 2" spacer under the intake-their intake is different, but I think the bolt pattern is the same.
  18. You have to REMOVE your frame rails ENTIRELY to fit a DOHC in a gen 1 brat.Even the regular SOHC EJ22 requires significant notching to fit.
  19. It will fit, but the radiator becomes an issue. For your first EJ swap use the 90-94 EJ18/22 because they have the simplest wiring.A stock EJ22 makes roughly twice the horsepower and torque of the stock engine at any point in the rev band.It makes FWD almost useless due to massive wheelspin when heavy on the throttle until about 45+ MPH.
