I dunno, I was told that ea81 and ea82 springs are different. If not, then I dont see why tempo springs wouldnt work on a ea81 then...
-
I dont think its supposed to do that

BTW where do you all find the cone washers?I checked all of the parts stores, the industrial bearing places, the junkyards, and then finally the dealer.Nobody had anything..The closest I could get was $10 from the dealer but it wouldnt be here until tuesday... Oh well I will just grab one of my parts cars...45 miles away...At least I can grab a taillight while im up there... Not what I wanted to do today -

thats possible but why would the wheel/hub wobble that much with the tire off the ground. That and it doesnt seem to matter which of the 4 studs I use to locate the tire it still does it at the same spot... -
And winner of the most awesome offroading picture of the year goes to ....

I just took my LF tire off the clean all of the mud out the brakes.I got it reasonably clean then I put the wheel back on to check for any weird stuff. The tire rotates freely until one point where it binds up.Not only that but the wheel wasn't spinning straight. When it got closer to the point that it would bind up the tire was wobbling by almost an inch.So I took the nut off and the cone washer is chewed up.Before I replace the cone washer is there any other reason why the tire/hub wobbles so much?Or is it because of the chewed up washer?

I read it here.Than I proceded to install them on my 87 gl EJ wagon. They lifted the front noticiably.I even cut one of the top coils off before I installed them...
-
tempo front springs will give 1-2" of front lift with an ej.They are abit stiffer which should help in holding up an EJ and a winch..only for an ea82 body style though.

on halloween I am planning to go up and play up in waha if anyone is familar with lewiston and the surrounding area, and live nearby and want to come be my guest.Meet up will be at 11 am on saturday at cruz meadows...

I dont have any experiance with the ej axles but a common lift for the ej stuff would be outback/forester struts on legos, imps, etc. that is all suspension lift.I dont hear that often about the ej stuff eating axles like candy like my ea81 with a 2" lift supposidly does.So maybe the ej stuff can take more angle? also the ej stuff was designed for a wider, heavier, more powerful, car so it should be stronger. again I know nothing, pure speculation on my part.Could always pick up some EJ axles from the junkyard and see how they run if you break the nwe's

grinding/crunching noise up front
Uberoo replied to Uberoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the nut backed off making it a royal pain in the *** to get the pin out. So i tightened it up about 1.5-2 turns more than what it was at. it was very loose.I suppose I could take it for a drive around the block and see if it fixed it... -
I am getting a grinding/crunching noise up front, specially from the left front hub. From searching abit I found: wheelbearings hubs front diff I jacked the car up and there is NO PLAY what so ever in the wheel so that rules out wheelbearings. The sound seems to be coming from the left front so that also makes a busted front diff an unlikly possibibilty. Which leaves the front hub.I checked to make sure its tight,it is, but the nut seems to have backed off a little bit( the pin is still holding it in place, but the nut has bent the pin out a little bit) What is the likelyhood of just tightening the nut extra tight would help fix this?Or are the splines already borked? Also, if they are Borked, will the hub from an 80ish single range 4x4 fit?it has the EA71. car is an 83 or 84 GL wagon.

forgot to mention its a brand new $100 radiator.Just put it in last week.
-
I argree keep the rubber bits as short as possible.I was kinda thinking aluminized exhaust tubeing or something similar for the sections between the engine and the radiator
-
I would like to move my radiator and put it somewhere else.I would like to mount it horizontally above the engine, but its a legacy radiator and it has plastic endtanks...so i can't modify the outlets or the fill hole. then I heard about mounting it in the rear of pickups and jeeps.Seems to work ok, but there has to be a bleeder port on the engine and on the radiator. The legacy radiator already comes with a bleeder port.It wouldn't be to hard to thread a bleeder into the Tstat housing. then after that just put the radiator in place of the tailgate and have some fans on when its going slow.at highway speeds it should draw plenty of air into it.(station wagons have a big vacuum area right where the "tailgate" is, so in theory it should suck air from the car out through the radiator. Has anyone tried something like that before? How would I route the hoses?think the stock EA81 water pump could circulate that much more water? It may not work in a wagon but I could always chop the roof off after the doors like I did on that one wagon I had...

I found out that if I run water through my pressure washer with out it being on,the nossle will restrict the water down so it will have some psi, but not engough to damage the fins.so that seems to be working.Except I need to take the radiator out so I can spray from the back of the radiator.
-
After my run up at Moyie Springs my radiator is really clogged with mud.Ive tried washing it out from both directions but it is plugged up good. So the water just goes around the clogged fins.It seems the only way to clean it will be to run some thin piece of metal through all the fins to push all of the dirt out.Any idea what I can use?Normally mud will just wash out but Moyie mud is full of sand so it doesnt want to clean out so easily.Any ideas?

the tires on my truck are balanced that way.Smoothest riding tires ever.I have never even rotated the tires and they all have even wear...Never thought about it on car tires though..

I went up. I don't know if 86hatchshelby was able to come up.If he did we didnt see each other. I had lots of fun. When I pulled up with the subaru everyone was saying how awesome it was.A few people didnt believe it would do very well.after a couple of runs through the mud pit everyone was very impressed with it.Right off the bat I started going through the deepest holes(35" and under would get stuck).I never had alot of speed going into the mud like some people.I would always go slow until I got to the mud then floor it.Only got stuck once. the excavation equipment went and pushed all of the "wet cement" back into the middle of the pit.Up in Moyie all the mud is "diverence mud" it has alot of sand, so when wet it has the consistancy of wet cement, when its dry it pretty much is cement. So after they moved all that stuff back into the pit i tried to drive through it.Made it about 1/2 way through it before the combination of dragging the belly through it and my low horsepower caught up to me. I just didnt have the power to keep the tires spining in that deep, thick stuff, so I eventually bogged down and that was it.I tried to go forwards and backwards but the glue/wet cement like mud held me in tight.Had to get pulled out...I would have made it if I allowed some other rigs to make tracks for me to follow but ohwell... Damage report: *didnt run a hood so engine is caked in mud *got rear ended by a V8 toyota because I wasnt going fast enough, just clipped the RR taillight housing, but I didnt even have a taillight there so oh well... * both front tires decided to start leaking air,one had a leaking valvestem other had so much mud packed in the bead it wouldnt seal anymore.Had to run into town to get those fixed. *ripped that piece of tubing under the stock bumber off, tried to hook onto it to get pulled out.didnt work.Spent couple minutes digging in the cement for the tow points... *one the way home the chain binder holding the rear chain tight came loose, then the car started bouncing/slidding over.Ended up rubbing the RR tire against the tire on the trailer. Both tires went flat. ended up finding a spare tire to use for the trailer that was old and very dry rotted.Drove the 190 miles home at 55 MPH.It sucked but I was able to get home Solutions: EJ swap Weld rear diff I suppose I could put a hood on if I run an EJ Build steel bumpers with built in tow points.Front and rear.\ I will get pics posted up later from my camera.Right now I need to start getting all of the mud off the car.BTW after about 3 runs through the pit my car was BROWN.For some reason it really coats itself good with mud,it doesnt have a lot of power, its tires arnt that argressive and they don't stick out very far but it flings mud on itself like no other... I dont have any action pics of the subaru itself, but a couple people were video tapping so hopefully they will post on youtube soon..

The other day I went and had some mud tires mounted on my subaru. I have 235/75/15's on nissan six lug wheels. I just drilled the wheels rather than the hubs.the mounting plate on the nissan wheeler are over 1/4" thick. Most shops wouldnt even touch em.Saying that the wheels were never designed to the two extra holes, that its unsafe, that the car was never designed for 235's etc...Ended up taking the tires off in the parking lot of one tire shop that would dismount/mount the mud tires but they didnt want no part in mounting them to the car...They even said most of the lugs would break/strip because of the incorrect lug seating angle,etc... The rims drive pretty smooth considering my wheel weights got knock off some time ago, and I neglected to have the shop balance them... Anyone ever had issues like that?I probally should have just taken the tires of the car and brought them there, but I dont really have a way to keep all four hubs off the ground..
